Calling marriage a scam is an oversimplification, in my opinion / experience.

Going from my sample size of 1, in your 20s you're lucky if you know who you really want to be and what you want out of life. So in most cases, it's easy to fall back on the default "get married". And, after that, especially if you have children, your options get limited very quickly and if you figure out you want something else out of life, you're then stuck between divorce (again a much harder choice once kids are involved) and compromising what would fulfill you.

My off the cuff advice: cut your losses with the current girl, spend the next 5 years making every effort to wake up each morning asking yourself who you want to be (for you, not for the impression it makes on others). To be cliché, "finding yourself". Work toward that, and once your're comfortably on that path, you'll have a better feel for if a given relationship / marriage would be a fit that doesn't compromise what you want too much (all relationships do to some degree, that's a normal tradeoff).
