This. For a group who claim to have never heard of chainlink they certainly do have some big claims about how it won't work or doesn't fill a critical need for blockchain tech going forward. Hilarious.

These faggots are just jealous their project is now dead in the water if chainlink succeeds (which it will) so their only recourse is cognitive dissonance and mindless FUDing. Wimp womp

Caleb Martin
but you have to appreciate how our boy Serg just slipped in off chain computation via secure enclave as an additional use case.
I mean, it's a hilarious 'fuck you' to enigma, like "not only is your multiparty computation convoluted and unnecessary, but chainlink consumes your entire use case as a mere afterthought"

I hope those russian pajeets get rekt.
Luis Campbell
He's right in that Chainlink is essential to integration with the old world. This will star the process of migration that will end eventually, making chainlink obsolete.
If all relevant data is onchain, why do you need oracles in the first place.
Ethan Hernandez
Oracles offload calculations off-chain.
This has many advantages:
- more security/privacy (better obfuscation)
- less strain on the underlying blockchain
- requires only a very simple underlying blockchain
- the system is blockchain agnostic (among others meaning the network of oracles can be infinitely larger than if it served only a single blockchain, and in decentralization bigger is in itself always better)
In general; having a separate oracle layer allows both the blockchain and the oracle layer to be MUCH more flexible, reach their full potential (in terms of size, efficiency, simplicity, modularity, ...), have much more streamlined development, etc.
These advantages will never go away.
Sure, players could create/use a blockchain that integrates oracles, but it would be an unnecessarily involved and costly effort. Especially when public solutions will undoubtedly offer much greater ease of use, cost savings, and security due to the much greater consensus.
And then there's the peer-to-peer aspect: regular private persons are still very much the majority, and when they start using smart contracts for things like banking, insurance, etc., they will make many of the parties that would favor using private blockchain/oracle solutions (banks, insurance companies, ...) obsolete.
For instance: remember that Bitcoin has been seeing very intense development over these past many years, and not only is it still not anywhere near where it should be to handle basic things like traffic, but the development has also split off into multiple directions because of disagreement.
This is why blockchain/DLT and oracles will likely always remain separate.

ENG has terrible token economics. Their project could revolutionise the world and you won't make a penny from it.
Anthony Allen
Enigma will allow for secret/private apis while link is only really useful with public apis
:)
Ryder Peterson
Okay this is really retarded and probably just shilling before the exit scam desu but he has a point. If blockchains end up being really that much better at handling and securing networks of any sort (banking, video platforms, social media) then there will be probably better long-term solutions that don't rely on chainlink but have other decentralized consensus, meaning there won't be off-chain data in the first place, most data will be created and stored on-chain to begin with.
For example a decentralized AI network could compute many sorts of data like weather or other stuff and that data would already be validated on-chain.
Aaron Smith
This is a dumb bitcoin core reasoning. I am not a fan of Bcash people but they have a point, you can't just assume that blockchains aren't supposed to scale and we just plaster more and more off-chain layers therefore reducing security and decentralization and in the end just recreating old school centralized networks.
Julian Gomez

You cucking fuckface. Do you see anyone using windows 98??? Unbelievable, why the fuck do you think there is a testnet? To fucking test the product, you fool. Does your tiny little gaybrain really let you believe that a product just comes to existence after one try? A masterpiece doesn't spawn. One needs experience. Learning from ones mistakes (like your parents should have after their first daughter) is essential. How the fuck do you think a meme works anyway, and I mean the Daniel C Dennet one (who ironically copied it from someone else) , and not the funny pictures your shitface sees.

Love seeing idealistic academics freak out after seeing a realistic enterprise implementation of their ideas that actually bothers to integrate with the current financial and social system instead of replace it. I'm sure they think link bastardized their dream of a an anarcho-communist utopia. Oh the salt in the next 5 years will be so much fun

Yes chainlink could be obsolesced when everything is moved on chain. But do you even realize the amount of full societal overhaul that would take? The fabric of companies, governments, and capitalism itself would need to be rewritten. And even if that pipedream were to to occur it'd be decades down the road, more than enough time for chainlink to serve as the "bandaid", as the Enigma team so eloquently put it, that lets smart contracts be usable in the next 5 years without having to rebuild the internet.
Jason Diaz
Literally this. No one talks about it but as soon as some NEET forces it down their throat suddenly they s oy out and start dropping LINK FUD - same happened with Oraclize devs topkek
Anthony Brooks
Chainlink will always have a use. Large companies that aren't already on the cutting edge don't like updating old but working infrastructure. More like 30 years for everyone to get onboard with their legacy systems. Even then, block chain still needs a way to communicate outside of it, which is where oracles will come in. You can't funnel the entire internet into block chain.
Isaac Lewis
wrong you obviously didn't listen when it was stated nodes can run api requests and owner of said node would not have any idea what its looking up. Private keys

>- more security/privacy (better obfuscation)

Very helpful post. Thanks. Have been following CL for a while but only recently came to understand the significance of these (ironically, partly from reading about (maybe) CL competitor Oasis labs).
I understood the point of Chainlink to be focused on “real world data” e.g. “what is the price of zinc on date x” or “how much rainfall was there in region y during month z”. Yes, those are HUGELY important use cases — for a derivatives contract or for crop insurance respectively.
BUT, I did NOT also see, until recently, that an oracle is ALSO hugely helpful for handling commercial contracts that involve, say, lots of confidential data that you don’t want to put on the Distributed Ledger. Furthermore, they allow trusted computation to happen OFF chain, which is hugely important for scaling. Makes me even more bullish for chainlink actually. Very hard to be patient, desu.
Isaac Peterson
>chainlink could be >obsolesced< when
fucking no you diarrhea brain, how would the blockchain then communicate with external systems?
Chainlink is needed for off- and on-chain data to communicate.
I honestly think this is bait. If it's not, you're an absolute fucking idiot.
"When everything is moved on chain". The fuck. What does that even mean. Are we going to put our fucking consciousnesses on a blockchain?
When *everything* is on-chain, chainlink will be the complete opposite of obsolete. It will be the single most demanded piece of tech - why?
Because we have to (remember, "everything" is now on-chain) fucking be *sure* that what goes on and comes off the chain is *trustworthy*. That's why we need decentralized fucking oracles. Not Oraclize the ambitious retard cousin.
Justin Sanchez
sergey is a fucking scammer who takes investment money and runs. Look at his job history. Chainlink will not succeed. The CTO of chainlink grades homework too.

I seem to have not emphasized this enough because I was frustrated.
*Everything* can not be moved to the blockchain. There will always be off and on-chain data. And for those to communicate, chainlink is needed.
*there is no ticking clock on chainlink*
As long as blockchain exists - and its properties are useful in the real world - chainlink is needed.
Thomas Murphy
reminder that guy zyskind started writing his thesis on off chain data computation 15 years ago, which is his life's work and is cited 400 times and is infinitely more qualified to talk about the subject than sergay or Jow Forums chainlink bagholders.

Chainlink ability to keep data private through offchain computation makes Enigma obsolete.
If you doubt this just ask who backs Chainlink, Consensys. They are 95% of the smartcontract market. And when we talk about mass adoption and then next crypto boom it will be through smartcontracts.

7 years to move legacy systems to the blockchain? Where is this number coming from?
>There are legacy systems from the 60s and even earlier still in use today. See archive.fo
Some countries give grants for R&D into migrating away from these systems because there is minimal incentive otherwise. Not rhetorical, is enigma or chainlink more likely to qualify for such grants?
>For many companies the risk and cost is simply too great. Realistically, the actual wait for full global decentralization is maybe 50 years out. Regulations (like PSD2) will become an agent of change for risk intensive cases within the next 7 years, but I have doubts that any mass restrictions on centralized enterprise services would be legal. Switching platforms for essential services is not a simple process. Companies that don't get much use case from distributed platforms beyond security are going to do the bare minimum to stay compliant in a decentralized word
>I'm personally concluding that: companies forced into positions where they may have to move to a decentralized platform, whether it be regulation or market demands, will need chainlink or similar alternatives to stay afloat until they implement their solution on something like enigma
>these guys could be working together (as all platforms should be) but the conditions of a speculative market & SEC result in manufactured controversy like this to protect themselves from price manipulation charges
Grayson Jones
hes an actual idiot though. I saw some tweets of him asking some retad TA guy on twitter for advice or something. It was a while ago

i don't know if he ever said that. Everyone screen capped his posts

Even if everything did move on the chain, you still need outside input to update it with values from the real world. Data entry, sensor data, blogs, user content. Chainlink is the IO of the computer that is block chain.
