PhD in Computer Science. Unemployed for 7 months

What the fuck am I doing wrong Jow Forums? I’ve applied to thousands of places and still NOTHING. I don’t get it. I know the data science/statistics shit that businesses want these days but I’m still not getting anything.
>inb4 it’s your CV
I’ve had my CV and cover letter checked several times by professionals. Everything checks out and I don’t have employment gaps (except the current 6 months unemployed thing)

I’ve applied to both small firms and large ones. I’ve even been trying to get unpaid internships but STILL NOTHING. I spend 13 hours a day sending about 8-10 job applications because I have to tailor each and every one. Many jobs that I qualify for as per the job description I STILL don’t get through. What’s worse is that I don’t even know where I’m going wrong because I always get the generic automated rejection emails with no feedback. NANI THE FUCK?!

whyte boi

Similar position. No PhD though. Electrical engineering and computer science background. Job search sucks. Keep applying.

Too many Pajeets is what it comes down to OP. I'm in a similar situation they don't even bother to send rejection emails not even a god damn template email.

Talk to a head-hunter type HR-recruiter person. Pay for consultation

What is your race, gender, and sexual orientation?

Why the fuck did you get your PhD? You fucked up OP.

Use hired.com nigga

If you wanted to wagecuck, you should have gotten a wagecuck NPC certified degree aka a bachelors, not a PhD.

I got scammed by some of these crooks a few months ago. I got called straight to an interview, thought I aced it, supposedly got the job, then got told to pay $750 processing fee to the recruiter which I did like a fucking cuck. Turns out later the company I interviewed for didn’t even have any job openings and the dude literally larped the entire interview process

>inb4 it’s another CV mining site they sell to 3rd parties

dear fren, in your situation and the current times you should pass like a transgender man, so you will fill the woman quota of companies, second if you are white, you should make sure you pose like as a descendant of latin american or indian , third if you are autistic you must improve your normie skills, or hr feminist cunts will trash out your application immediately, because autism is the first thing they check above all. so you must pose like a progressive social normie. tip: A pro hillary shirt will give some points, all tech companies are left trash.

Same here with an MS. Management floor is taken over by NPCs, they don‘t care about you or the company or their jobs, they just get by with as little attention as possible. They dont want you to come in and shake things up so they just hire another passive NPC. I just hope SOMETHING in my stack moons even if it be FLASH before my savings are depleted

Make a LinkedIn, big yourself up and link to your PhD talk about some papers etc etc. Recruiters will match you on searches and send you job emails/messages.
Since they want their referral fees, they will aim to get you any job and the good ones have good relationships with companies they're hiring for.

some tip more if you have fb, twiter and all those fance social stuf, delete it, of make it up some new social media with left progresive garbage

I have been doing this and gotten nowhere. Most recruiters I’ve approached just tell me to apply online through their website which then becomes a dead end in itself. They apparently don’t want to give me an “unfair” advantage over others hence why they won’t “fast track” my application. Whatever the fuck that means...

Also LinkedIn penalizes you for networking too much. I got flagged as a bot for trying to message too many people at once.

>then got told to pay $750 processing fee to the recruiter which I did like a fucking cuck.
if this is true, there's your problem.

also if you want genuine advice, pls provide specifics. what are you looking for. why not try to get work at some academic place, college, etc. you can be a fucking community college professor with your phd. easy job. but it sounds like you're a dumbass cuck who get scammed. consider this thread a wake up call.

>computer science
>Unemployed
Nice larp

This may sound stupid, but have you tried leaving PhD in CS out and just leave either bachelors or masters?

Here’s a quick check: make sure your CV is in Word form. PDF CVs are a meme.

>Thinking a PhD will land you a job automatically

Never going to make it user. Work experience is king.

Why?

>I got scammed by ...
Horrible, feel bad for you for having such a string of misfortunes.
Perhaps try a reputable organization with a track record perhaps to do the same thing?

I'll probably get flamed but there is a subreddit for cs career questions, might want to ask there

Are you marketing any practical skills? You say you got a PhD in CS but what can someone pay you for? Like your entry point just seems to be dev.

I am applying for dev jobs

Got a portfolio of example work, GitHub with some projects?

Answer this. It's 2018. It matters.

Just generic "dev" jobs? I have a PhD in applied math and I've been getting a lot of interviews, even though I don't have that much programming experience. With a PhD you should be going for more "advanced" jobs, not necessarily the typical job that someone with a CS degree would apply for. I mostly apply for data science/machine learning jobs, even though that's completely unrelated to my PhD (I did a few online courses so that may help). I usually focus on jobs that mention PhD/MSc as I figure they'll be more receptive to me. Have you been getting many interviews?

Go to California or even better, Scandinavia. You'll be headhunted over there, the chicks are top tier and will swarm you like flies thanks to the PhD.

Seriously, if you move to Norway for work, you'll thank me a thousandfold.

holy shit thats so fucked up

This! Nobody wants a PhD because you're overqualified. Masters will do you good

The tech = free money meme peaked in 2008 and now most normie business needs are met with canned solutions like wordpress and quickbooks.

The current free money meme job is nursing.

>you now have a 7 month gap in your cv
>you have to explain how no one thought you'd be a good employee
>you think anyone is going to want to hire someone who no one wants to hire

Glad i didn't fall for the computer science meme

How much relevant professional work experience do you have?

over educated. drop the PhD from your resume unless the position requires it.

>Scamming the unemployed
This guy may not live for long

Capitalism is a game of musical chairs. The music has stopped and you were left without a seat.

Write to some companies, ask about apprenticeships or just coming in to observe how the company works for a few days.

Get your AWS Certifications and get a profile on Github.

Literrally this. Everyone i talk to now is in healthcare. Its the only industry left that pays a living wage. It will be around a while because its propped up by big pharma. also single payer healthcare is coming wether drumpies like it or not because its the only way to fund it now that obamacare has been gutted and is slowly being killed by rising premiums.

>Putting any of this garbage on your CV

No.

Electrical engineering is pretty easy to find a job in homie. Just not an easy degree. Hehe also yeah PhD is a meme unless your trying to do your own startup and you need investor money. They are more likely to invest in PhD then bachelor's CEO even if the PhD is from a degree mil and the Person is a literal brainlet

Are you fucking crazy PhD...oh man..I got one by myself, our team even delivering a millionbuckos generating therapy
Not that no one cares
Even worse, they won't give you a job because they are afraid you take their spot.
> E-eh user, yeah we need a workforce now...but.. I'm not sure you would like our job. It's not that exciting you know...
I only get jobs when I dumb down my resume.
Not counting all the missed income due to this goddamn PhD
never ever again
you fucked up

you're overqualified.

It becomes apparent through social media. You don't put it on your CV. I am asking because if he's a straight white male, he is never getting a job in tech.

This. Nobody wants to hire a PhD at a regular job

Change your name to Shasta Cinfony Jones and you'll at least get a phone call.

That’s a meme too it turns out. I had a 3 year gap in my CV from when I didn’t get out of bed to do anything for a while and it took me like 5 weeks to find a job that paid equal to my last one. I have a bachelors degree in history. Phd’s Don’t mean shit. I was married to someone with two of them and she was still a fucking idiot.

Play a team sport and talk to a recruiter.

t. Ex-IT recruiter

Take your PhD off your resume. Even your masters. Is probably a bit much. Programming is not mature and companies aren't looking for acedemics. Companies want someone who understands the language features and operating system that company uses and can work well in teams. A PhD doesn't assure any of that. If anything is a mark against you because academics don't care about implementation and you do it more or less alone. Comparatively.

Try Google. Only company I know that hires phds.

This. You studied cs for 8 years but don't want to just build a product to start a company around? Fair but you should consider it if you haven't. No interest in research & grant money? What positions are you actually applying for OP?

With a PhD you should be applying at Facebook, Google, Uber, etc.

Your gap is too long now, you will never be hired. The torment will never end.

this.

CS is a meme at this point. I have a CS degree but couldn't find anything reasonable in 18 months so I quit and started truck driving.

I was unemployed for 5 months until I took the Boomer advice and applied in person
If applying out of state you definitely need an address in that state. I spent a week and flew down to a city to apply in person for everything. I could have just gotten lucky though

Keep ur head up op

PHD with no job experience is a red flag. you played yourself OP. If I were you I'd take that off my resume. You should also have a showcase of all the personal projects that you've coded to make up for your lack of experience.

>even better, Scandinavia. You'll be headhunted over there, the chicks are top tier and will swarm you like flies thanks to the PhD.
>Seriously, if you move to Norway for work, you'll thank me a thousandfold.

Do not listen to this shit tier advice
Scandinavia is one of the worst places to go for you. The weather sucks ass majority of the year, the girls are degenerate whores, the salary is low and taxes take half from income, another 20-30% in VAT on everything you buy. Not to mention almost everyone who goes to Uni does at least a masters degree.

t. scandinavian

>the salary is low

Define low. How many USD per year?

Are your salary demands too high?
Idk where you live, but here it's literally impossible to go unemployed with an IT degree, even a bachelors. If it's anywhere near first world, then you're doing something wrong. Post CV for us to see.

>literally impossible

Attached: 1470305207851.jpg (393x383, 44K)

Any interest in blockchain?

Net salary would be around 2000-2400USD /month in Sweden/Finland for junior webdev/software engineer More in Norway but so is cost of living.

I would suggest OP go to eastern europe instead if you want to work in IT in Europe.

There is demand and salary comparatively higher. I've seen job postings where you can get the same salary as in Scandinavia except COL is like 40% of Scandinavia.

It is also the only place you will find a decent white girl if that is what you want

regardless of your qualifications you might not interview well or have any work exp user
try entry level app support
good luck man
