winfag my whole life any point in switching?
Redpill me on Linux
I like linux for work and win for entertainment. Its up to you, give it a try. The good distros are free anyway.
It will keep your cryptos safe and you sleep better, desu. Every time I use my credit card I make sure to use linux. I got my paypal account hacked before, but that was before switching to linux.
thinking about to get a cheap system to run linux on. is 4gb ram and a ssd enough for ubuntu?
the thing i despite the most is when everything is laggy and unresponsive
last Windows I used was Win98
never looked back
Windows for games/streaming/browsing or any other normie activity.
Linux for scripting/automation/writing code/running a server
>is 4gb ram and a ssd enough for ubuntu?
Assuming you talk about the latest amd64 LTS - Yes, it‘s enough.
forget linux, use openbsd
but i'd like to see a live vagina one day user
You're thinking slackware.
Linux sucks dick everyone using it thinks they are a genius because they are doing everything the hard way, when that really makes you dumb as fuck. Windows 10 is what Linux wants to be when it grows up.
It is good to have a liveboot USB or CD of Linux though and dual booting Linux with win10 is rather painless if you want to try it out.
So edge
Not Win10, anything but Win10
>hard way
Wtf u talkin about my darkest brother
Yes, please use ancient win 7 just to prove to your imaginary friends you‘re really up to date in nerd stuff
As an oldfag who started with win3.11 for workgroups I have to question your credentials. The decent windows distro were win98se, winxp, win7 and win10.
My credentials are someone who has owned and operated a small IT business for 8+ years. If Windows wasn't a substantial security concern prior to 10 (it was) there's no denying than 10 is practically spyware in and of itself.
I also started on 3.11. Staying on 8.1 which I won't argue for, just making an argument against 10 due to privacy concerns and Microsoft's forced update policies that break things far too often
u need to be running linux in order to run chainlink nodes.
thats really the only use case for linux machines right now, at least to me.
I guess if I was being paid to fix people's PC problems I wouldn't like win10 either, it's too easy to use and doesn't have many problems. But I make money using the PC (programming and bot trading) so I use it because its reliable and easy.
Literally 15 fucking pages of traffic lights, cross walks and motorcycles to post this kys captcha faggots
No , it sucks compared to windows if you just wanna have fun,if you want to work then use it but wouldnt reccomend it for anything else
buy a Jow Forums pass bro
it's only $10 and it feels so fucking good knowing that you aren't indirectly paying by spending countless hours over the year doing shitty captchas
when was the last time you installed a Linux distro? the only hard part is installing it.. everything after that is piss easy
Oh time to install my nvidia drivers, let me just add a ppa to my sources list. Ok why do I have broken dependencies when i try to install. Apt purge and autoremove, still broke. Let me try an older driver. It installs but the default nouveau driver doesn't blacklist properly. Find some forum post with a slightly different install sequence that should work. Finally get new driver to install after sorting through broken packages created from uninstalling your first attempt. Now I've got a driver but screen tears everywhere with my desktop env. Find an obscure YouTube link with some magic edits to put in some config file. Still fighting against the nouveau default driver but at least nvidia will start now. Will figure that one out later
Meanwhile on windows, click install on nvidia website and done
it's not 2006 anymore user
Quick rundown, FreeBSD or OpenBSD?
yeah and Nvidias Linux drivers are still shit
just use W10 and install the Linux subsystem and pick your distro, done
best of both worlds
I've switched recently when my hard drive shat itself and I needed to quickly get my laptop working again without redownloading windows. I found I actually like it. It's so convenient to be able to install shit from a repository with a few commands. Most Steam games I'm interested in come in Linux version as well. And when I nee to use Photoshop I just use Wine as a bridge and that works fine.
Occasionally stuff gets fucked up, but when it does it's like it's something of your own fucking up, and it's actually enjoyable to fix it. It's not frustrating like when windows fucks up and you have no real options. For eg I tried to do something clever and borked my graphics card drivers, which caused my desktop to run in some bullshit safe mode. But I was able to identify the problem fast with a bit of searching and quickly found the terminal commands which fixed it. It was no joke a fun experience.
Also there are way more options for atypical practical stuff you might want to do. I spent ages on windows trying to find a program to turn my laptop into a wifi hotspot, using a usb dongle I had as an internet connection and the internal wifi as the hotspot source. Various programs sorta worked, but they were all trialware or pirated and none worked very well. On Linux it was a matter of typing in a few terminal commands which I found in matter of minutes on stackexchange.
I mean there is Jow Forums but you will get mostly "install gentoo faggot"
I ditched windows 2 years ago completely and have never looked back
Now, that was after like 3 years of wanting to try to learn Linux. Usually the roadblock that stopped me was gaming
I don't game a lot but I do game with a couple friends at least once or twice a week and not being able to do that with them got annoying so I'd switch back to windows only for windows to do something to piss me off again then I would switch back. Repeat.
But 2 years ago when windows decided to update and reboot while I was away from the computer, I came back to a message saying "don't worry everything is where you left them" that stayed up for like 4 hours
That's when I said fuck this shit and left windows completely
There is a learning curve, and when you Google something everyone will use terms and commands that they never explain and make no sense to you. They will tell you the arch wiki is your friend but that's the same thing, bunch of technical jargon that is barely explained and make no sense to you.
But beyond that, when things in Linux start clicking with ya, it is a great alternative to windows
No more random updates and restarting without your permission
No more ads in your start bar. Don't want a start bar? That's cool, Linux distros let you do that
My advice?
Install Linux mint or Ubuntu, ignore the people calling you a faggot for not using meme distros, and take one thing at a time.
Install it, browse biz, watch YouTube, and you will start to see that everything pretty much works as intended.
Then start migrating into the terminal, cause that is where your bread and butter is
But for now ignore it
Just use it
Youll like it
It's totally worth the switch from microcuck
