I feel you, I have a degree in economics and work a technical support making 16 per hour, for the past 2 months I've applied for jobs that pay slightly better and have had 1 interview. 30 years ago I'd have some white collar job that is salaried equivalent to 50k lines up easily. I'm thinking g about giving up finding a better job and just accept my 50 cent pay increase per hr every 6 months.

If you want to do this then go into fine dining. Did it while I was studying CS. The tips are high and you regularly serve influential people from all sectors. I made it a habit to treat all my guests well, give them the best service, have some banter and entertain them a bit (not too much or you annoy them) while looking confident/competent. They always end up asking what I'm doing, I'd tell them CS. 2/10 times the guy gave me his number and told me to call him so he could hook me up with his contacts, straight up offered me a job etc. That's how I got my first job as a dev and even met one of them again on a vacation where he invited me to his private cellar and we clocked some fucking expensive French reds.

Yeah waiter. Barmen don't have much contact with guests (at least where I worked). Make sure you're well groomed, do what you're supposed to do and can make better (funnier or more intelligent or both) conversation than the average waiter (not that hard) and it's easy af.

Get a useful degree, network, apply yourself, write a better resume and cover letter and be willing to move. There's a huge shortage of skilled labor in so many industries and its just getting worse with all the old boomers retiring.

you just start talking to people. find someone with a job or salary you want and simply ask them about it. you can meet people anywhere and just talk to them. if you arent good at talking then you have to practice. it'll come with time. And this is important. If you meet someone and you seem to get along with them and you think they might have a job you want or if they can help you get job you then fucking man up and ask them for it. People cant read minds and you will be surprised what people will do to help others sometimes. If it doesnt go your way then fuck it, you gave it a shot. Now try again tomorrow. At my school anyone in the Pilot program is guaranteed 2 interviews with major airlines, accounting is hiring like crazy (guaranteed regional or B4), computer science is big, tons of trades are hiring (heavy duty mechanics are making 60k starting minimum), nursing and medicine are self explanatory. The only people I know not getting jobs are the fucking losers who never cared and thought they would get a free job instantly from randomly applying on linked in or indeed. Get a fucking co-op, pick a useful degree or trade, go to some networking events and you're set.

Go through school, check school clubs or alumni networks, check sites like eventbrite and attend events hosted by people in professional industries. Whenever you meet someone ask for a name or business card and email them or add them on linked in. Keep drilling away and create a good elevator pitch for yourself where you can quickly explain who you are, what you do, what you're looking for etc.

Its even worse than this when you factor undermployment and people working just part time. Real unemployment is 30%

I was a NEET for 3 years. I have a degree. I took what I could get. I worked that shit job until I wanted to put a gun in my mouth. Yes. When I started as waiter I was awkward and nervous and autistic. Couldn't talk to them lightly, sounded stuck up and too formal or stuttered because I was nervous or said weird shit. People I served looked at me weird and 2 times even asked the manager for a different waiter. After a while you get used to it and get better. If you do it long enough you get confident and can hold a conversation with anyone about anything. Just get out of your comfort zone.
