Monero is just about the only coin you can mine profitably on a laptop. You probably better off getting xmrstak and mining to a pool though because solo mining in the wallet is more like playing the lottery than steady earning. Expected value is about the same though.

look into the tail emission. we're deflationary until 2020-2021 and even then inflation will be 0.1% or less for years.

Anything is possible but it's hard to imagine a scenario where a cryptonote spinoff gathers more dev support and investor interest than Monero at this point. It'd take some kind of breakthrough in user-friendliness for that to happen I think.

I was using Claymores software which is easy to use and easy to manage/ tweak. Now I'm using Srb miner, so the learning curve doesn't help, but so far Srb miner seems pretty good at least for me. I might give xmr-stak a try on a different rig I've got in the works but not now.

Yeah I never used Claymore because afaik it wasn't open source so I didn't trust it. Haven't heard of srb but xmr-stak is worth the learning curve once you get the hang of it. Lots of tutorials out there for it plus it is open source so it's not sketchy at all. I know Claymore announced they won't be making any more Monero miners after v7.

There are mobile wallets for iOS and Android but I haven't used them. There's also a webwallet. Pretty mindless.

Monerujo is great. Cake wallet for ios. And just use the official GUI or CLI from getmonero.org anywhere else. You can use a remote node from moneroworld.com with any of those wallets if you want light wallet functionality.
