bat would work if it used bitcoin on lightning/ethereum directly. by adding a worthless funding token, and making the entire thing centralized (you can't cash out), bat itself has zero long term value.

Advertisers purchase BAT or a dollar value that will later be converted to run the ads through Brave Inc. Its true they could use Bitcoin or Ethereum instead but by that logic they could use Doge or Bitbean, but they are using BAT for the ads, which gives the tokens value.
