As someone who does 6 figs a month in cbd sales, good luck starting from zero at this point. You got a mountain to climb and that 10k will only buy you a backpack and a camera.

There is no one doing it in my state yet and I can scale as time goes by. Have to start somewhere.

What are some challenges I would be facing?

Do you plan on extracting and selling at the same location? I'm assuming you'll need some sort of business license as well. You're probably not the only person with this idea in your state and if there's a limited number of licenses to be distributed it may be delayed and you will have competition with deeper pockets.

I feel you. I may be coming from a different perspective. You can very much build your own “comfortable” life and get into the industry and all that. It’s too late to build a massive brand name (but even that, fuck anyone can come up from anything) but you can absolutely make a living and enjoy life.

Just saying- My company does ~4mil a month in cbd sales, started in 2013. It’s been a hell of a journey. Without the capital you’d be extremely hard pressed to get to our level, to the point where I’d recommend selling a brand people trust over trying to build your own.

There are some local brands (Green mountain in Vermont is one I point to and hear of) that do very well as that local go to brand in Vermont. But good luck going national without the right ingredients. That’s disregarding product- I mean organizational ingredients too. Hungry sales team. Good creative dept. legal support. Marketing team to figure out how to market without violating any platforms rules on marijuana etc

You’re going to want to start networking and finding your way into bigger circles. Ultimately, you won’t go far in this business without getting political. You can’t get political without donations. It’s rough out here

If you’re going to start growing, move into that asap. You’re gonna have a harvest or two with waste yield and learning curves before you’re producing something worth having. The space is great but anyone can grow weed- it’s called that for a reason, shit grows all over the world.its about optimizing for what your end product is. Be it cbd, fibers, hempcrete, etc

When I say networking... if you want to build in the dakotas, you gotta start getting into city council meetings, commissioners, and building your way up from there. Gotta protect your home front.

I am a process engineer. The purification of herbs to oil is pretty straight forward.

I can make that system for way way way way way less than 100k. Money is in the equipment, they have 80% margins.
