how so? I thought that the odds were approx 1:303 million to get the jackpot so if a ticket is $2 you need to make $606 million after taxes for it to be +EV. what makes it worse as the jackpot goes up?

because more people play it when the jackpot gets big thus the chances of having a matching ticket with someone else increase, so you're more likely to have to share the jackpot with 1 or more other people when you win it. with lower jackpots when less people are playing this is not the case.

A. It gets marketed more when the jackpot is bigger so people who wouldn't normally even remember the lottery exists will buy a ticket.
B. No it's not really worth it.
