So, considering that you don't experience things where your consciousness doesn't exist, the thing that happens after you die from your point of view is simply the next point in time that you are conscious. If that is in this iteration of the universe or not is entirely dependant on what happens in the future of Earth. It also depends heavily on what consciousness is and how it functions, if you can emulate it, and what separates your consciousness from anybody else's.

Each event is logged within the fabric of space time, which permeates throughout the rest of eternity. You are merely the universe which has organised itself under its own laws into being aware of itself.

"You" are not separate from "everything" - literally every single thing is completely interconnected, made of the exact same energy which, following the underlying code of existence organises itself into different forms, but ultimately consist of the same thing. There is no different between you and a rock other than the underlying code from which you spawned.

When you die, you simply change forms. The underlying code which ran to keep that subset of the universe organised into what you perceive to be "you" stops running, and the materials from which you are made revert back to their natural unorganised state lest they be subsumed within the source code of another subset of the universe to be utilised there.

The point I was trying to make is that ultimately there is no "you're". You are a conscious self-witness to this brief slice of time when the universe (i.e. YOU) has organised itself into a being which you perceive to be distinct and separate from the rest of reality, when the true nature of things is that there is no you in the sense of an absolute separation between all of existence.

Your soul gets reincarnated. The body is temporary but the soul is eternal, the only way to reach heaven is through reaching enlightenment, which would end the cycle and instead of being reincarnated you become one with the universe, bliss, nirvana, heaven, whatever you want to call it. Now what does "reaching enlightenment" mean? It's different for everyone and only God knows. As a hindu, I really dont like how the semitic religions try to claim that if you dont do what they say you're 100% guaranteed to go to hell and spend eternity in torment. In hinduism "hell" exists but it's not permanent and severity depends on your crimes, and there is no difference between a hindu and a non hindu, ie if a non hindu finds enlightenment on his/her own path they also attain nirvana, you're not blocked from heaven because of birth or culture.

But if you want the real answer, no one knows for sure. It's just one giant speculation.

You have to make a distinction between the way a human brain interprets reality on the fly in a way manageable by its hardware constraints - i.e. categorisation of things into sets, memory acquisition, memory recall, generalisations, assumptions etc. versus the way things actually are objectively.

The convenience of seeing yourself as an "other" compared to the "all" is of course necessary for a human to be able to look out for its own interests, self-preservation and any human that did not have these traits would have sharply been culled from the evolutionary line. Since we do have the notion of self vs other, there must have been an evolutionary pressure which selected for these traits - many animals do not have any notion of self-awareness, but rather are instinctual.
