Basically normies got in on what used to be an exclusive club for social outcasts and early adopters in the late 90s.

What was once an virgin industry is now dominated by a few megoliths who absorb all competition and enforce a strict authoritarian rule over what they perceive to be theirs - i.e. free interaction of ideas between humans leveraging telecommunications.
