Why aren't you making video games?

I came up with a concept for Pokemon GO, but better, a year before it was announced. I had planned for it to be worldwide but pokemon only occurred in their (somewhat) appropriate climates, thus creating a trading market and also including global battles, basically I just wanted IRL pokemon.
Unfortunately creating something from a concept, especially at that scale, is beyond me.
A girl I liked at the time laughed at me when I told her it was my million dollar idea. It was shit seeing how successful Pokemon GO became when it wasn't even that good a game.
instead I'm making this tool for /biz to use
merv.tech
but I think making a neat pixelated video game with very fluid controls and amazing art work would be fun
>this retarded thread again
I'm laughing at YOU right now incel user.
Ideas are dime a dozen and are completely worthless. IDEAS + EXECUTION, now that's valuable. IDEA MEN are bottom of the food chain retards, a waste of fucking space.
blackpill: even if you developed your game and even if it was better than Pokemon, it still would have failed.
What made Pokemon Go popular was the brand, the nostalgia factor and a fuckton of millions in marketing. It sure as shit wasn't the revolutionary gameplay. The roastie that laughed at you was right. Your "idea" would have never lifted off the ground.
The same reason why the average user can't just sit down and write and record a hit album, or write a best selling novel, or paint a picture that sells for millions.
You can't just pull stuff out of your ass - unless you're posting on Jow Forums, as most comments are exactly that.
Well yes I wanted to pitch the idea to Nintendo, not make up some retarded non-pokemon, pokemon.
this
wasnt there already many AR games from google and shit, some took off but none like Pokemon GO
Retarded bait. Steam is a wasteland of indie games that never took off
There are propable thousand times more people capable of executing than coming up with ideas.
I'm not talking about shit ideas like what you have, but real groundbraking ideas.
I did make one, it only makes me about $100 a month from Steam.
It's slightly better chances than making the next flappy bird but the market is flooded. You're competing with AAA games selling at $3 a copy because they were released more than 2 years ago.
You speak as if the execution part is easy.
Steam is littered with shovelware shit and early access games that need constant influx of cash to achieve anything.
For every stardew valley there are 100's of duds which don't end up covering expenses. You're competing with a lot of clickbait shit these days.
Also gamers can be unbelievably harsh and demanding in their criticisms - think of an annoying customer in a store but multiply it 100x because you're dealing with a worldwide audience. And don't forget the death threats!
Unless you're going for a one-off game you don't really care about you're going to have to put some serious capital in, assemble a team (devs, marketing team, legal, etc) and hope you manage to cover all your expenses.
TL;DR it's not as simple or glorious as it might first seem.
>copy harvest moon, pay no royalties, don't get sued
>well deserved
And yet fortune 500 companies pay millions to consultants for basically power point presentations filled with ideas...
what kind of game?
Top down 2D shooter. I won't name which one exactly. I got it on some pretty big blogs (rock paper shotgun) and a few youtubers with 500k+ subscribers. All of that basically means nothing apparently.
Went to a few showcase events, many of the devs who had been in the industry for a few years were saying they were soon exiting due to the immense competition.
Steam back in 2012 looked to have been a gold mine, these days it's got far too much competition which ultimately reduces prices.
How often does anyone pay $80 for a PC game now?
this.
If you are making a product that people base their identity and use as a life narrative substitute you are gonna tap into some powerful emotions... and there are a lot of bad ones out there.
I'll just leave this here
soccermanager.com
Ideas based on models and tons of experience of executing those ideas in various environments.
the guy was just smart to tap into an untapped market
PC has had ZERO harvest moon-like games on it, plus people were sad that harvest moon was killed and rune factory was never the same.
he both filled the farm simulator niche on PC and brought harvest moon back for people. as long as the game was functional it was bound to be succesful.
stardew valley is a bitcoin cash scam cheap counterfeit rip off of harvest moon
It's better than harvest moon in many aspects. And Harvest moon is dead.
I stopped playing that shit when I realized every other character was a vaguely-brown Tumblr design.
it's shit and a counterfeit
Much less than that user. Fundamentally idea is just an information about the market, about the problem and the opportunity, it may be the timing, the consumer need or great shift about to happen that can be utilized to produce profit. "Ideas are worthless" is just an excuse for not having to deal with people who think "tinder for cats" (literary that one sentence!) can be sold for millions, people who have nothing else to put on the table... The fact that anyone can can produce any amount of those silly ideas does not mean that all ideas are worthless. On the contrary obtaining the right information can be very expensive - requiring cooperation of domain experts, costly trials and prototypes and all other kinds of efforts - this is why consultants have to charge so much to cover their costs. Now on the company side the reason anyone wants to pay for it is because it brings money, duh.
I am.
A none shitty crypto based game will be very important. Something that is actually good and not some card game garbage.
>tfw had a great android game idea, made the game, started getting 5 stars and 2 guys even wrote me telling me how awesome it was.
>Got 10k downloads in 2 months. $200 ad money.
>shit this might blow up
>suddenly downloads drop like a rock while reviews stay 5 star
>downloads stay at 100 a week now
>tfw google probably fucked me over with some bs algorithms update
I had some other great ideas, but I dropped it since it's way too little money and then the algorithms or whatever can fuck you over literally overnight. Got 2 great(imo ofc) startup ideas, so now I'm focusing on learning flutter and ofc I'm all in LINK 25k stack.
Do you really think they didn't have a concept for Pokemon GO a year before it's release? It will have been in the works for twice that long.
*announced, not released. Probably right but it really doesn't matter anymore.
What a delicate snowflake you are
>and it's well deserved
>and that's a good thing
>merv.tech
lol cool, it'd be kinda neat to have an API so I could incorporate it into my trading bot
>implying biz affects prices
will look into an api
but not only biz, very soon it'll tell you whats trending on reddit as well as major crypto news sources
>years of work
>most ideas are unoriginal zombie and/or survival games
>over saturated market
>very small chance of success
>playing games as an adult
1. Because you need to know how to program to make a good video game, and I struggle horribly with even the basics.
2. Because success stories like this have reached the ears of the masses and saturated the crap out of the video game indie scene. Seriously, you either have a marketing team with the devil's charisma in them when you launch or you're just tossing your game into the ocean.
Why didn't you make Doki Doki Literature Club?
No one wants to play indie shit unless it's a unique multiplayer game or memeable. Lol my next multiplayer game is going to make millions while you brainlets get cucked
I have a million dollar idea every time I get to take shit, it's nothing special unless you are a sub 120 IQ NPC, what makes the actual million are the skill, the time, the dedication and the fund to realize it.
do explain it
What? Where does he say that execution is easy?
If anything, he's saying execution is far more difficult as it's the thing that makes an idea valuable.
Based on your reading comprehension skills, it's no wonder chicks are laughing at your retarded ideas.
Games are a fad, soon kids will go back to baseball
with the level of instant-gratification present in all facets of society today, baseball is essentially dead in 20 years time
