New to chainlink, Need advice

hello frens,
I was wondering, This morning i bought some link and created my first ETH wallet using MEW.
I was wondering, If I should keep the not passworded version of the private key or not?

I actually didnt print out the paper that shows the key, afraid some family member finds it, or I get my wallet stolen if i print my paper wallet onpaper.

so I only kept the encoded passworded version of my wallet private key.

Am i doing it wrong?

is there a chance the passworded version of my private key will become obsolete?

tks frens

download json file and store it in a usb, write down your private key and tear the paper into halves.

alternatively mix in some numbers (i.e. if your private key doesnt have the letter 'A' or the number '1', insert some of them into your private key and hide it in an essay on google docs. Just remember to delete all the '1's and 'A's before you use them

i really dont wanna keep the non passworded version of the key, is it safe to only keep the passworded json file?

Im just afraid the passworded version would become obsolete

If you have to ask it means buy and use a TREZOR.

I bought a trezor direct from the manufacturer but the plastic wrapping surrounding the trezor's box has a little rip in it. Should i throw it out?

I will give you this advice because I really like being nice and don't want to see what happen to me pretty much a year ago happen to someone else
BUY A NANO S NOW, GOT TO THE LEDGER SITE AND BUY ONE FROM THERE NOW!!
from your post you know barely anything about this like I did. I did just like you, bought a stack of 4k link and made a mew wallet just like you and didn't know how to use to probably. Got hacked pretty quick. I advice you get that link off that wallet now and back on binance or whatever exchange you bought it from and wait until you nano s comes.
In that time read about how to use a nano s and how the blockchain works.
If you don't listen to my advice op you could lose your link within a week or two. THIS IS NOT A LARP

>Got hacked pretty quick
how

Buy a ledger nano S. Your stinkers will be extra safe. No option to lock in the price though.

thats why im asking to only keep the passworded json file, and not the uncoded version of the private key, i'm willing to only keep the passworded version, so if anyone steals the json file they still wouldnt be able to crack it...since its passworded

ledger or trezor?

i was just checking on the ledger nano s...but if someone gets acceess to my 23 wrds ill be fucked...also what happens if the company owning ledgger nano s gets hacked?
i dont trust this kind of solution...

I'm just asking a simple question,
If I put a huge very secure password on my json private key,, and will store that json file in a safe environment, am I OK?

no one will ever guess the password...i'll just learn it in.

what i want to know is what are the risks of that json file not working anymore?

Dude you have no idea what you're getting into, for the final time BUY A LEDGER NANO S.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE DOING. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW "STRONG" YOUR PASSWORD IS. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

Being unsafe with my wallet and private key.
Did you generate a wallet on a air gap computer? Probably not.....
Did you reveal your private key in your online computer? probably
Are you a degenerate and use your computer for porn and shit? Probably....
If I'm correct your wallet could already be compromised. Just get it off the wallet, back on the exchange and wait for a nano s, but to answer your question, yes it is safer to keep the json file and not the actual private key, but just get a hard wallet like a nano s for fuck sakes. I'm trying to help you, also you will sleep better at night

Access to your recovery phrase is on you. Put it in safe storage, bank etc., and you're good. As the other guy said, nano is the easiest and most secure version. Buy directly from ledger, find a safe place for it and the phrase, make sure you send your stuff to the right address and you're good. It does not get simpler for the security you get.

Sounds like he might be trolling honestly. If he doesn't listen to all of us then whatever man we tried.

Ledger can not be hacked, also don't be a brainlet and be safe with your 24 word recovery. Also what happens if you lose your json file??

He will learn the hard way I guess, I advice op to go check out the comments on etherscan and yes how offered people lose their crypto to hackers. All it would take is for a hacker to put a key logger on op's computer and then steal this json file that I'm guessing he will keep on his computer

Is a 6mm walled 178kg safe with two lever locks safe enough to store a ledger?

SOMETIMES NOT EVEN A LEDGER NANO S CAN SAVE YOU
R.I.P. SQUIRRELANON
R.I.P. FLOODEDANON

>tear the paper in halves
i strongly recommend tearing the paper in thirds

This actually reads like we're all Ledger shills, but if you have more than 1000$ in crypto, you shouldn't buy more until you get a nano S honestly. There's no better and cheaper solution if you're not tech-savvy.

Don't forget PaperAnon, he got rekt

What happen to them, how did a ledger now save them? Did They lose their recovery seed?

Squirrelanon sent his funds to the wrong adress (basically burned all his stinkers as nobody can recover funds from it).

Floodedanon sounds like he lost his hardware wallet or recovery sheet to a flood.

RIP them.

>the password...i'll just learn it in
Don't rely on remembering the pass. Based on your posts, you're a huge faggot and a brainlet. You must write it down because you will forget it. You can split the pass/seed in 2 or 3 and store them in seperate places

Squirrelanon reset (deleted) his ledger and a squirrel ate the piece of paper with the 24 words. He even posted photos of the squirrel and the damaged paper. He lost 50k link

I remember that, I have 3 nanos all cloned to the one recovery seed, I would advice doing this aswell if you can, I also have a crypto billfodl (like a cryptosteel) for my recovery seed aswell. Also thinking about getting another 3 nanos and splitting my funds onto two seeds, but not sure yet. Also wondering how safe is a bank deposit box also?

Dam, sending to the wrong address scares the shit out of me, I never send all my stack at once, also the one thing I do not like about the nanos is when you are sending tokens it doesnt show it on the nano, only comes up with contact data

i'm actually a DEV and used to use trojans and 0days when i was a kid...i am fully aware of what trojans can do...i created my wallet using an offline mew, on a formatted computer with malwarebytes paid subscription on it. i'm pretty sure its not compromised.

the only downside is that I erased the non ecrypted private key, only kept the passworded Json file, and used a password using different characters, and its in my head, and never used that passsword on any computer.

I'm just asking a simple question yet no one answers it :( .....

i just want to make sure the passworded json file will still be reeadable in 2-3 years if

The private keys are synchronized to their servers...what makes you think their servers will never be compromised?

Good luck. Binance wallet is the best wallet for you.

Use an extra passphrase with the ledger. So the 24 words and one you just remember without writing it down.

Hands down best protection ever.

Just keep a txt with the pass keys somewhere and just use ublock Jesus christ

This is not true at all, where have you read this. Your private key is store on the nano s and never leaves it and signs transaction on the hardwallet then sends it back to your computer without ever leaving the hardwallet. You can use a hardwallet on a infected computer for fuck sakes

false, you can recover your private key from anywhere using the 22 word combination...yiu dont even need the original ledger, how do you think this happens? you think they use magic of some sort?
no, they literally store your keys on their servers

This guy is either INCREDIBLY retarded or is trying to troll you. Stop responding. You have the right idea about how the ledger works.

When you get the nano s your nano s generates a 24 word recovery on the nano s, no where else, the 24 words pretty much are a store of private keys it generates from that seed. I could use one nano s and generate 20 different seeds with it if I wanted to. As long as I kept all the recovery seeds written down. Also one 24 word recovery seed generation thousands of private keys. You need to read more about this tech.
And yes I could use my 24 word recovery to recover my wallets on any bip39 wallet, but this has nothing to do with ledger storing my private keys, my 24 words store my private keys which was generated on my nano s and no where else and by myself.

If he is a troll, don't want him giving bullshit false claims and advice to other links, it was the worst to have my Linkies stolen but just lucky it happen in the early days and was able to take it was a lesson

aha ok I get it, basically they generated a wallet and private key from the 24 words, and its static.
so the 24 words always generate the same results.

isn't that like easy to hack? what if you just write random words to try and recover any wallet then?
wouldn't it possible for a hacker to do it?

Should have said *give advice to other brainlet linkies

>isn't that like easy to hack? what if you just write random words to try and recover any wallet then?
The universe would most likely come to an end before a hacker managed to hack a seed

ok cool, you seem to know your stuff, what do you think if I decided to leave my linkies on binance, and use 2 factor auth using my phone, isnt that okay?

>
kys

mtGox?

Fuck off fag

iM 2 Poor to afford a Nano S

I have 8k Linkies

I created a MEW and send 1$ back and forth

and shoved my links on there

Yes when i created the wallet it was connected to the internet

I see and check my public address every few weeks

Guess what,.....nothing bad has happened

Dumb fags who are paranoided.

If u dont have any virusses or malware and have some common sense its not that hard

Your nano shit is as safe as the piece of paper or whatever way you use for storing your password is. Exactly like a paper wallet. With paper you don't have to worry about tech getting compromised. Paper wallet is the most secure way of owning crypto, period.

Brainlet here, does it cost anything to transfer my stinkies from binanace to a ledger s should i buy one?

15 link

moving 500 links to mew costs 2.8 links

the separating the paper your private key is on is also what i do. i have 4 pages hidden within different books in my little library. also a fake book that is a lock box with a usb that has the private keys on them. i feel safe but hardly anyone ever comes into my house. hardware wallets are a real horror show, anons have lost fortunes to them. never use them.

Setup an air-gapped computer that has never touched the internet. de-solder or disconnect any wireless internal antennas or network cards. setup linux but compile everything from source code yourself, and audit all source code first. setup a paper wallet generator using a cryptographically secure source of random entropy.

transfer your BTC to the public key address you generated offline for your paper wallet. now your coins are safely stored offline and can't be hacked. the next step is critically important. take your paper wallet with BTC on it, and the next time you feel the call of nature, wipe your ass with that paper wallet and flush it down the toilet because that shit is worthless.

Has anyone used Atomic Wallet? I use that currently to store my tokens but I am thinking about something more secure even though I have absolutely no qualms about this one.

>hardware wallets are a real horror show, anons have lost fortunes to them. never use them.
How so? I thought once you have your seed phrases/words or whatever you can lose your ledger and still use any other ledger with those words

You are correct. Sounds like operator error if people are losing shit with hardware wallets. The fucking seed phrase is the wallet, the hardware just signs keys in a convenient manner.

Thanks!

Don't use MEW. Use the "ethereum wallet" from the ethereum foundation.

github.com/ethereum/mist/releases

You'll have to sync to the network, which will take a long time. Weeks. But it is the safest thing you can do.

Keep private keys in encrypted sub drives and/or printed on a piece of paper and laminated for extra safety.

LEAVE IT ON BINANCE.

We learn from Chernobyl/mt. Gox, we don't repeat it. Just move fast during the sell

why not mew?if i use the offline version im all set no?

Just read this whole thread...this is THE dumbest shit i ever heard of...99% of people arent capable of doing this...this dudes says do it this way, that dude says do it that way... jesus fucking christ what a fucking mess...

See
My post is correct

Squirrelanon had his pkey on a piece of paper stored in his wall and groundsquirrels ate it.

Okay I just spent the past 3 hours reading up wallets and reading up on how Atomic Wallet, what I use, works. Tell me lads, what's wrong with Atomic Wallet? They give you a 12 word phrase that generates your private keys. Memorize the 12 words and you'll be able to access your wallet from where ever as long as you download the Wallet application, even if your computer is busted (okay, I'm in conversations with tech support to confirm this, admittedly, but it seems to be the case from the FAQs). Why would I use a hardware wallet over this cold wallet?

Attached: British Language.webm (302x302, 2.44M)

yes immediatly but must burn/destroy iy

Okay, so I've learned that it's not a cold wallet, but it's a Light Wallet.

Even more things I need to read up on.
