Basically, people will be too dumb or too unmotivated to contribute to society and everyone will be worse off for it. Then fuel will be thrown on the fire when people's quality of life begins diminishing and the electorate will begin electing socialist politicians. Perhaps the pendulum will swing over to authoritarian right wing politicians when socialist policies just make things worse. You can already see a preview for this today with politicians like donald trump, bernie sanders and jeremy corbyn. But this is nothing with what the future holds.
Long term, this spells disaster for global growth (ie. your investments). The back half of the 21st century will be an insane time to be alive. Artificial intelligence is the only X factor which I dont think anyone can predict.

I find myself going back and forth between blackpill and whitepill. On one hand we are incredibly close to the fourth industrial revolution and the newfound potential that it will bring. However in some instances the damage that is being done may have very drastic, long lasting effects like huge demographic shifts or miscegenation. The authoritarians you mention are already here: in the form of a progressive technocracy which constantly bullies or outright censors whomever stands in its way. The governing elite's complete disavow of its citizens in favor of diversity/social justice (which itself is merely a tool to increase the power of said elites) is arguably the catalyst for a nationalist like Trump to get elected in the first place. Meanwhile the so-called "democratic socialists" are causing a schism in the left as we know it. Identity politics can only be taken so far before all parties involved begin eating themselves. Right now it appears that technology will inevitably advance to such an extent that traditional nation states and centralized governing structures will be impossible to enforce. I don't think it will be cyberpunk in the sense that we have huge transnational mega corps because this tech will also empower (sovereign) individuals. Organizations may become more fluid, forming and breaking down as necessary to accomplish certain goals as opposed to the slow moving conglomerates that rule today.

The west is clearly collapsing, and its colapse is due to the great acceleration of capital itself which by globalization and the explosion of value destroys everything myth related for the human. Oddly enough, both the reactionary right wing and the new left serve to the acceleration of reason and capital, the right by deregulating the market and the left by destroying every sacred thing so its easier to sell it in the market.
I dont think humans, as we are now would make it into the next century, if capital is just the instrument of reason and reason just the instrument of absolute external meaning, then the current pushing of AI by start ups seems to be only going to the total displace of humans for an entity that could serve meaning/capital in more effective ways. But that if we reach that point before complely culturally colapsing.

I’m just not convinced AI is as advanced as the silicon valley marketing departments would have us believe. That’s not to say there aren’t some impressive ALGORITHMS out there that can extrapolate and predict our future behavior after sifting through mountains of personal data. I just don’t think we’re anywhere close to creating software-based consciousness, as we would recognize it. Why does AI generated music and art suck? Why do self-driving cars continue to run over pedestrians? Where’s our babelfish?
