Sure. There was speculation by large corporations. But the true bitcoin enthusiast should not care. Their speculation does not inhibit the functionality of the network.

The internet has minimum packet sizes for a reason. Because large packets would flood the network, and cause the internet to stop functioning. You have to have a limit. The question is what the limit should be. Right now, blocksize upgrades are being rolled out via softforks to maintain backwards compatibility. Bitcoin core has already raised the blocksize via segwit.

To undercut the lightning fee market. If big banks do show up and broadcast high fees, smaller lightning nodes will show up with lower fees to out compete them for their traffic. This is very similar to how the fourth layer of the internet works, TCP/IP. There are parallels between bitcoin and the internet because both are decentralized protocols, including lightning. The lightning network is still a decentralized graph. Each node makes its own routing decisions.
