I think they just know very well how the market and human pshycology work. On top of that they controlled A LOT of the bitcoins. They can simply sell off until it snowballs and people start to panic sell. Then they sit back and watch it. When the market starts to cool down and people get theire hopes up again, they start another sell off and the same thing happens again. Rinse and repeat. It's easy when you have a lot of bitcoins or cash to manipulate the market this way. This goes for all markets
