what do you do and how can I increase my net worth?
my salary is around $100k

I live like I make 1/3 of what I make. I avoid spending on things that are not necessary. For example: I rarely drive anywhere anymore. No point when I can walk or bike. I invest as much as I can in a variety of investment from safe long term investments, maxing 401k contributions, taking advantage of EPPs for the companies I contract at. I never hodl crypto. I swing trade it with the goal of flipping it into fiat ASAP, and only trade eth and bitcoin. Everything else is too risky.

If you work from home, I recommend using as much of your free time as possible to
leverage your skills for additional income. Even delivering pizzas on weekends can be a huge amount of extra money. I did that one year and made an extra $10k (2014-2015) and saved some money on free pizza.

The biggest piece of advice I can give: never turn down a life changing amount of money. If selling your crypto at a new high would change your life, you’d have to be an idiot not to sell it.

Also, I’m a software engineer specializing in cryptography and security. I’ve worked at all the big companies out here but for the last couple of years I work for myself. The housing market here is about to crash. Get your shit together so you can buy a property at the dip in 2020/2021. I’m probably going to sell my real estate here next year. That’s a majority of my worth. I take what I earn on investments and solidify them in real estate. The rental income is also great, especially if you invest it.

For me that’s about 70k/yr. The mortgage on my primary residence is 2.5k, and is smaller - around 1400 sq. ft. It’s just me and my girlfriend. No kids, so it’s plenty of space.

That’s a huge amount of increase in income. But weigh it against overall compensation with 401k contributions, health insurance, and commute expenses, etc. If it’s still way ahead, it sounds like an amazing opportunity. It could always turn into remote work later on as you become more senior.

Well recessions last years. Just make it a goal to get your first place in this upcoming recession. You’ll probably get setup with a great interest rate if they lower them, and will buy towards the bottom. The housing markets here have huge growth potential. Especially when climate change completely fucks the rest of the country, causing about 4m people near term needing to be relocated.

As you get in the habit of saving it becomes fun and addicting. I’m always looking for ways to save. I still splurge here and there, but I always heavily way purchases against potential gains from investing the money instead.

This sort of advice is extremely situational and dependent.
I earn €5k a month as an R&D guy in tech, which is about €3k after taxes, and I only know how to spend at most €2k of it. I would for the live of me never recommend to not spend money, not eat the food I want, or do side jobs for money. At least from my perspective, saving money is a meme and since yolo, you cutting down on lifestyle is retarded.
Now granted, I got the PhD education etc. to find a job whenever I need to, but the reality of things is that -everybody- can learn python in 6 months well enough to 100% get a job. At least in and around Germany.
Money is more or less just being-old backup once you got a nice flat, got a job you actually like and enough cash on the side so you could take a spontaneous trip to xyz at any point. Beyond that it's self-brainwashing.I read "I teach my kids how to be reserved with money / how important money is" on Quora all the time and so I know this is a common perspective, but I'd argue that it's pretty much a trap.
