Is University of Chicago legit or cucked?
Brayden Hill
Oliver Reyes
>85% jewish demographic
based.
Anthony Perry
comes with the territory in the top 20. except for notre dame
Juan Stewart
It’s a great school if you are in a literary field. I don’t really know for other stuff.
Hudson Gonzalez
cucked. obama went there. he bail out the crook banks. definitely cucked.
Nicholas Jackson
obama went to columbia and harvard law. he lectured at Uchicago law school for a bit while he wrote his first book (which was allegedly ghostwritten by William Ayers, a chicago area professor)
it is where his presidential library is going, though. and her two top aides work there, valerie jarrett and david axelrod
Owen Rogers
undergrad econ is legendary but lacks the clout of HYPS wharton duke if you're targeting wall street finance. uchicago has a pretty red pilled law school and MBA program
Zachary Jackson
I took the first 2 classes of econ-track major classes there. It's still complete bullshit as any other econ program. Artificially trying to cover it up with a slightly higher level math than your typical undergrad econ starter pack does not make it any more worthwhile.
Zachary Reyes
>I took the first 2 classes of econ-track major classes there
idk what you're implying. you did the summer quarter program there when 99% of the undergrads were home? or you were an actual UC student and transferred out
I was just perusing linkedin and a kid transferred out of UC to Amherst and is a current IB analyst at goldman
Jonathan James
my 2 cents after 4 years at the place
>cucked
definitely
>overrated
extremely
but on the flipside, there's a decent fried chicken place nearby
Benjamin Ward
no, i went there and got my undergrad degree. all 4 years.
Ryan Ortiz
>IB analyst at goldman
it's definitely good for getting those jobs, no doubt there. but that's all, there's nothing special about the education that you would get. it's all name recognition.
Hunter Rivera
Why does this fucking school keep popping up? How old are you people. Chicago is a shithole. I grew up there. If you want to spend more than a layover in that shitpit, go to this school. If you're not a cuck then go to Columbia, Harvard, Penn, Yale or Stanford. Literally every other school in the country is shit and a fucking meme for mouth breathers.
Jaxson King
It's no Mumbai Municipal Potty Training Academy but it's ok I guess. You gotta start somewhere.
Jayden Long
>Chicago is a shithole
this guy knows what's up. too bad i didn't get into harvard and yale.
Brody Lee
i ended up majoring in physics. was undecided for awhile, so that's why i took the econ classes.
Christopher Gonzalez
but the college is hard af, so few kids have the grades. IB recruiting requires a 3.7 gpa; honors at UChicago is 3.25. harsh grading has to fuck a lot of otherwise really smart kids out of prime offers (not just wall street but exec consulting ... and of course MD programs and t14 law school)
Angel Rodriguez
Honestly thought Chicago was harder to get into that Harvard or Yale because the undergrad population is so small. I remember getting waitlisted there but it doesn't matter because I went to my comfy state U so I could graduate with no debt.
What do you do now? I always wonder what I would have done with a prestigious degree like that. My school (UNC) is very good but doesn't have that same top 20 prestige
Austin Johnson
>Why does this fucking school keep popping up?
because Obama's daughter is prob going there
Lucas Phillips
Basically this. UChicago actually challenges their students and the average GPA isn't 3.6 or something like a typical Ivy.
Thomas Davis
OOSH
Ian Butler
U of C was easier to get into back when I applied. The acceptance rate used to be as high as 25%, but it has fallen dramatically in the last 5 years. There was a big initiative to drive up applications, improve the undergrad program's image, advertise better, etc. And it has largely payed off in terms of boosting the ranking.
i'm not doing anything worthwhile at the moment
Oliver White
According to Wiki, as of 2016, the college/undergrad class is 53% male, 47% female. It is also 44% white non-hispanic.
According to Hillel, there are 825 undergrad jews vs a total of 6264 undergrads, making it about 13%. Almost all of them would be listed as white non-hispanic.
44% white non hisp. minus 13% jews = 31% white non jew.
31% times % of males (53%) =
16% or about 1 in 6 of the undergrad population are white, non-hispanic non-jewish men.
What you think of those stats is up to you.
Thomas Nelson
>uchicago is extremely brutal and punishing
this is a myth perpetuated by the student body to alleviate their inferiority complexes, since most of them did not get into places like princeton, stanford, MIT, and Harvard.
Now, it's not quite as easy as Harvard, where you get an A for just showing up, but with careful selection of electives, a 3.7 is doable.
I got a 3.72 majoring in physics. I am lazy and unmotivated in general. Far from the best in my classes, but I was careful with what classes I took, padded my GPA with language electives, and tried to take the easier physics electives. I asked friends who had previously taken the harder physics courses for help as well. MIT and Princeton are more legit in terms of difficulty.
Chase Adams
well they have a nigger problem - solve it and chicago would be a gleaming jewel other than it's weather woes but even those can be solved if papa trump makes coal cool again and warms up the planet.
Liam Thomas
I remember getting deluged by all this fucking information from schools I had realistically no chance of getting into, just because my ACT scores were good. Honestly annoying how schools push students to apply just to go up on the US news rankings.
Oh well, fuck those elite schools anyway. Most of the people I know who go to them are way too neurotic and have this annoying savior complex, though maybe that's me coping with not being good enough
Carter Ward
maybe it was cool in the 70s bro. you didnt notice the grainy stuff on the Milton videos you watched?
Carter Walker
it's pointless to compare yourself to people that you don't know at all. luck, genes, advantages from a wealthy upbringing. super important things that are completely random for everyone, so why even dwell on it? there will always be someone else that seems like they are better off in every single way, until you get to know them well.
Juan Myers
Uchicago has some interesting history moments. My mom actually went to there in the 80s and told me about how this Romanian Professor who was into the occult got mysteriously murdered in the bathroom. The official explanation was that he was killed over Romanian politics but some people though it was a cult killing
Evan Sullivan
Yeah, I guess the feeling stems from the classic "I could have done it if I applied myself," so it's kind of a guilt thing, but you're right. The older I get, the sillier it all seems.
Michael Jenkins
what university doesn't have it's share of ghost/horror stories? my alma mater was founded in the early 19th century and had so many stories/myths and unexplained events it was almost normal.
Robert Ramirez
>i could have...
infinite possibilities to that statement. why regret an infinite number of paths not taken?
Zachary Harris
Sister eyeing this college for bachelors, thinking about heading into medicine.
This or Northwestern?
Levi Martinez
John Hopkins or go be a wage slave
Kevin Anderson
student quality is higher at uchicago. you will have more intelligent classmates on average. northwestern might be more fun or easier to get a good gpa at, so it really depends on what she's looking for the most.
Landon Davis
Wouldn’t doubt it. Bill Gates son is there now
Andrew Lopez
Yeah the clout takes knock because some grading is pretty no nonsense and it used to have a really weird student body. Now it’s like weird and preppy. idk I’d characterize it as like a Columbia more than an HYPS. But lots of Ivy rejects there for the wrong reasons who walk around with an obvious chip on their shoulder
Grayson Johnson
>well they have a nigger problem
UofC is an island in a sea of ghetto, this is true. But the city itself is so massive, you can live here and go your whole life without seeing an empty lot or broken window.
Then again, the bloated crime myths are what's keeping Chicago from becoming the disneyland that is now manhattan/brooklyn, Austin, SF and LA. So by all means, keep spreading this.
Joshua Allen
All the top universities are cucked. Of course you should still go to one if you get in, but no doubt it’ll be a cucked environment.
Adam Sanchez
I agree. Those crime statistics are just about average for similar populations similar to this.
Luis Evans
I think they let the shitty areas stay nuts so the problem takes care of itself. Also, not much they can do with homocides if nobody seen nuffin. Why would cops even bother helping trash like that
Jason Baker
The entire population is 2.7mil, so the south side only makes up about 1/4th of the city proper, and only 1/12th of the metropolitan area.
If you pulled the south side out of the city, there would still be about 2 million people in Chicago -- more than Boston, San Francisco and Oakland combined.
Add the fact that Chicago is so large geographically, many neighborhoods on the northside are 20+ miles and over an hours drive away, you can see how the northside is really a different city.
Colton Clark
Checked but many lawyers study English as an undergrad and for good reason
Angel Wilson
What sucks for Hyde Park is that the big recent real estate boom tuned out to be in and around west loop / Ukrainian village / pilsen. It hasn't really trended downward south of the loop. It's going to take a long ass time to connect downtown yuppyville to Hyde Park, if ever
Levi Foster
It's already hitting Bridgeport tho, which will eventually spread to Bronzeville and down the lakeshore.
Camden Williams
whats soem really bad streets in chicago to look at on google maps?
Logan Myers
Go for something public, get good grades and minimize debnts, kill the MCAT and then go to a top program lol no need to go to private undergrad as premed. It’s not a huge consideration on the apps. The only thing is that those private schools have more resume-building opportunities—but you definitely pay for them. Also the student body is probably hardworking and your roommates won’t keep you up all night partying. But I don’t think it’s worth it.
Jonathan Wood
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
>
UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO ?
Bentley Thomas
>Then again, the bloated crime myths are what's keeping Chicago from becoming the disneyland that is now manhattan/brooklyn, Austin, SF and LA. So by all means, keep spreading this.
not really a myth. chicago is gorgeous in a lot of places but SF and LA and Austin have a better vibe, more dynamic. idk what chicago can do to capture that or if it's even possible. all those public pensions, all that old infrastructure, and all those illiterate criminals are an albatross around the city's neck
Jackson Hall
>MIT is shit
>cal tech is shit
>Berkeley is shit
Into the trash it goes
Carter Russell
Shoulda gone for a physics degree then.
Hunter Peterson
>but SF and LA and Austin have a better vibe
>all those illiterate criminals are an albatross
I don't know what area of SF you were in, but when I was hanging in the mission/castro, it was full of illiterate bums staggering across the sidewalks. There might not be as many gang shootings, but there's loads more property crime, and the rent is 3-4x as much for a fraction of the space.
I'll give you that SF, Austin & LA have their respective industries if tech, music, or film is the thing that you're into.. but Chicago has all of those too AND finance, advertising, medical research, telecom, independent theater, etc. It's much more a microcosm where you can find any kind of niche.
Ayden Miller
God damn her skeletal structure is amazing.
