>graduated from state uni >degree in economics >Fluent in Spanish, good in Portuguese, okay in Malay >have certifications in SQL,excel, Tableau, Javascript and R certs on the way
Recently had 4hr data analyst interview for a company making 4.5B yearly (3rd round interview)
my bro who is a realtor saying I'll never make bank. Thing is tho he is bragging about buying a house but his gf's mom bought it under her name and he is acting like it is his achievement. His gf babysits fucking dogs kek
>tfw also studying to take IFM actuary exam this spring
"yeah user but you'll never make bank I work 14hr days 7 days a week. I want a house in Vail and blah blah blah" - my bro
gf is from Malaysia. I like learning languages so figured I'd learn it since it uses the Latin alphabet
spent 3 months in Malaysia after I graduated
Justin Peterson
probably should be able to find something business intelligence related anywhere
Sebastian Bennett
I've been applying to business analyst, project coordinator, data analyst positions
many denied applications but meh I hope this one company comes through
Brody Smith
>Graduated from law school >got a judicial clerkship >have to start looking for another job for next year >I know about blockchain, smart contracts, and their position in the law. In contact with bunch of lawyers in tech
Gonna make it.
Ian Wright
give me your linkedIn....
Ryan Powell
Your prospects are entry level BI bullshit such as the data analyst role you interviewed for.
A piece of advice to all Jow Forumsnessmen still in school: get internships before you graduate.
Ryan Cox
ok yeah I'm looking for bullshit while I bump up my skills. I would have got internships but decided to travel and fuck around.
at least I'm making headway with software certifications
Blake Turner
Do those certs actually mean anything?
Carter Nelson
if you're getting interviews you're fine. But I'd suggest building some kind of portfolio. i.e. make some crud apps in javascript utilizing sql. Maybe do some type of statistics oriented project to showcase your skills. real work > certs, unless the job you're applying for specifically wants you to have certain certs.
Lincoln Powell
Does my degree mean anything? It means something to someone I'm sure. Certs are just me saying "hey I'm not lying my ass off here I actually took the time to do something"
Juan Bennett
economics is pretty lowtier
Logan Perez
hey thanks I'll give that shit app a go, I also have a tableau profile where I showcase some work. I modeled some NASA research center data
Adam Miller
couldn't get into CS so I decided just to go with economics and boost that with software skills and foreign language skills
How much are these certs generally? What if I took Java classes in university, is a cert to prove my skills a waste of time?
Jonathan Green
I use those online classes that are popular rn like udemy, i use lynda (owned by linkedIn) so the certs directly apply to your profile.
the excel and tableau are from Microsoft and tableau respectively
the site is free for me since I use my library card but for others, it is $30 a month
Xavier Rivera
I guess if its from Microsoft or some shit it might carry some weight.
Isn't the problem that online classes are generally "dumbed down", so employers are skeptical?
That being said, I've taken some decent MIT & NYU courses, how do I list them on my resume. These were the classroom equivalents, all course materials were included.
Brody Lewis
i mean personally if it is super dumbed down I can tell and just fuck off. however, the classes on lynda has legit professionals teaching them and I actually feel like I'm forwarding myself and linkedin has pumped a lot of money into it.
I'd list your classes under post graduate selective learning or something and then list the individual classes and unis
Bentley Brown
How about textbooks,? I've read through Damodaran's Investment Valuation and the McKinsey Valuation textbooks.
Andrew Cook
A, pues mira que bien.
Dude reach me out im a brainlet and need to make this work on bitmex data
Not going to pay you any, but hey, i will share some algos for you ;)
Zachary Robinson
>have certifications in SQL,excel, Tableau, Javascript and R certs on the way
which particular certifications?
Tyler Rivera
I typically read economic texts because that's just my interest in general.
>The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money by John Maynard Keynes > The courage to act by Ben Bernanke >The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith >Economics by Paul Samuelson
Rando books
>Meditations by Marcus Aurelius >So Good They Can't Ignore You by Cal Newport
Kevin Sanchez
SQL, Excel, Tableau got already
working on
R and Javascript
Benjamin Hughes
>plebeian, the reading list Stick to fucking SEA monkeys
Jordan Edwards
these books formed the basis of my knowledge on which my education built.
what is your list, user?
Colton Adams
Depends on what you want to do, you haven't specified any field but it seems like your all over the place with the certs and actuary exam.
Ethan Howard
I've been applying to business analyst, project coordinator, data analyst positions
data analyst would be the aim
Ian Harris
Nice. Don't be disappointed if your first job isn't stellar. I took a shitty desktop support job out of school and ended up in infosec at a top 10 international bank bc I never stopped networking and applying
Charles Adams
which means you pretty much also speak indonesian kl isn't a bad place to be...get a job there, and then work your way into a transfer to Singapore
Dylan Thomas
Should've got a degree in Math while minoring CS or Stat if you wanted guaranteed 200k+ job out of college. Continue working on your R and statistical analysis skills.
