Pay for a service using bitcoin

>pay for a service using bitcoin
>they don't do what you ask, or do something different or in some way scam you
>you have no power in this situation, all you can do is sit back and watch them laugh at you

Tell me, why would anyone use this over credit cards in any situation(other than wanting to remain anonymous, i.e drug deals)? Most people feel unsecure enough paying with paypal etc

Because you have a smart contract guaranteeing the transaction

Please tell me how a smart contract can guarantee that a merchant ships me the goods I ordered.

the BTC doesn't transfer until the service is verified as complete.

How is it verified?

confido ;)

Decentralized marketplaces were solved in 2011 with silk road and reputations.
There are many projects improving on this abstraction. Syscoin for one

They probably won't but it's better to use BTC when sending money overseas to relatives for example its much cheaper and faster and less of a hassle.

There were scammers all over the place on Silk Road, even those with high reputation. The only reason it was used was because there was no other alternative.

BTC is dead I am glad people are waking up finally

It's the same with cash, OP. The seller is required by law to refund the buyer. If that doesn't happen, you have to take legal action. Credit card companies may issue a refund to you, but they also need to somehow force the fraudulent seller to give your money back to them.

Well if someone does this to me, I'm going to physically find them. My credit card company won't do that.

how do you think paying with cash works today, or debit?

only credit cards "protect" you, and they've only been a thing for the past few decades. how do you think humanity coped before?

you can have any number of different setups for bitcoin payments, and at the end of the day, you have a permanent immutable record that a payment was made, and how much for, much better than before.

Decentralized escrow services.

don't buy from pajeets
use the legal system against scammers
buy from reputable merchants

this doesn't need to be fixed

>oops, I never received it. I guess I don't need to pay the seller.

I guess you'd need some way to link your blockchain to real world data.
But what are the chances of something like that?

>Most people feel unsecure enough paying with paypal

???

WHAT???

Dude, the opposite is true for MERCHANTS!!!

Do you realize you could be subject to double or TRIPLE jeopardy when it comes to disputes?

For example, dude buyes something from your eBay store.

Hes an idiot, and he does not like it.

Opens an eBay case after you deny the return request. Loses for buyers remorse.

Then he opens a PayPal case for "item significantly not as described".

Alright, so you use the buyers remorse evidence from eBay and win that one but it takes a fair amount of time and waiting.

Finally, he says "fuck it" and calls his credit card company to dispute the charge directly with paypal because "the guy on eBay scammed me".

PayPal then places a hold on your account for that amount and will "fight in your favor" and present "evidence" to the credit card company.

This almost never works.

So you lose. but wait, theres more! PayPal charges you a "charge back fee" of $20 for losing.

So tell me OP, why would anyone want a platform thats open and fair where the reputation of the merchant is key rather than multiple banking entities holding your funds hostage?

Because it's the only one that has customers.

not possible for most services, especially if you end up using something useless like chainlink that can only work with centralized api data, and not like an actual oracle.

The point im making is, there is a LOT of incentive for merchants to use crypto payments in favor of traditional methods.

Its like buying with cash, there is no recourse and you are always at the mercy of the merchant. People were fine with that for all of history until electronic payment methods become popular.

Consumer protection is even more strict in Europe. Its getting to the point that small businesses wont be able to compete with much larger ones that have the resources to deal with charge backs and disputes.

k so basically what you're saying is if you're the consumer, it makes no sense to pay for anything with BTC when you could have a huge powerful entity like Paypal in your corner

Thats true, which is why its absurd if anyone says

>Most people feel unsecure enough paying with paypal

>chainlink
Hmm, never heard of that before. Thanks for the tip user, I'll be sure to look into it :)
