Is Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell a good way to begin and understand the foundations of world economy?
Is Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell a good way to begin and understand the foundations of world economy?
its lolbertarian/conservative propaganda.
Just become a jew
Any and every investment is a ponzi.
Growth is based on digging up shit and burning it.
You're welcome.
Better than liberal economics
>"lol print money"
protip: just because it's a book doesn't mean the writer is right
He is the affirmative action hire of the conservatism.
Sort of? Calling it propaganda is probably overstating but I see where you are coming from. A lot of what he writes does make sense though. One issue I guess I have with his view points is that planning a society to be the most economically sufficient that it can be is too myopic, there are other things to consider that need to happen to make a nation or state or community flourish and I think there needs to be some balance between them. Sowell focuses only on the economics. His policies would probably be great for business, but may lead to detriment elsewhere.
For example the free market by itself may not select for environmentally friendly business practices because the precautions needed to ensure those protections would likely raise their bottom line, but longterm it may have terrible effects on the planet so some regulations probably make sense. Sowell hates regulations of any kind because the often go too far, and he is probably right in many cases.
I have more issues with the pinkos though and definitely skew towards sowells way of thinking. My 2 cents
>12304130 just read the damn book and decide for yourself, yeah?
Didnt mean to put words in sowells mouth and i may have an incomplete understanding of his views so take it with a grain of salt. I'm a phone posting faggot right now or i would have written it better
Too many incel commie faggots on this board user. Sowell is a great place to start. He is an extremely intelligent person
Read "Economics in One Lesson" instead, it's short and unironically a great book
Read Basic Economics
When you're done, read something more advanced like Das Kapital
Better than liberal economics
>"lol gib me dat"
Tommy Sowell is a nigger and thus he cannot read so how can he write a book? this is obvious jew subversion you leftist cucks
>T. commie
I thought Sowell was a based black guy when I stumbled upon his videos at 17yo. But then I went off to college and realized he's nothing but (((Conservative Inc.))) Open Borders puppet at (((Hoover Institute))) with no real economist chops, no real published researched, nothing
He has no original thoughts, his career is just parroting right-wing bootstraps propaganda. To be sure the left employs a lot of the same shills but I don't consider them based either
More info is always better. You just need to develop the ability to discern useful insight from bullshit. Get past the "rich want deregulation, poor want gibs" manipulation and find your place on the scale.
The truth is the only economy that matters is your personal economic situation. If you lose your job, you'll benifit from the gibs, if you strike it rich, you'll need the tax cuts. The truth about what is best for all has no relevance to you or your family's actual well being. So try to understand how each side is trying to manipulate politics so you are best positioned to profit from your current financial state.
There are no "sides" we're in a duopoly, actors on both "sides" are controlled by same big business corporate interests
It's a decent book but it falls foul of thinking the world runs on theoretical abstract ideas and profit motive rather than in group preference, ideological preference and nepotism.
Economics isn't a real scientific field of study.
yes, friedman and sowell are legends
watch the liberty pen videos on youtube, the round table discussions
I agree with that and that is my point, it is not a duality, it is a scale. Corporate and government interests have only one goal, to profit from you whether rich or poor. However, politics aims to polarize to create an illusion of unity amoungst sides. It is merely a divide and conquer tactic to keep our eyes off of those who really profit, but you already get that. As I stated, the only economy that matters is your own.
Henry hazlitt economics in one lesson is another good option
So what?
You're studying a bunch of made-up bullshit. That's what.
Most of economics is silly bullshit.
Qualitative economics like the Austrian School is pretty good, just pure logic without silly complicated models that don't work anyway
If your argument is that economics is bullshit, you could have a point. However, that doesn't diminish the value of understanding the actual economy. The economy is very real and your knowledge of it can be very lucrative.
I happen to also believe that psychology is a quack science filled with empty theories and pseudo- science. That doesnt change the fact that humans have very real measuable behavior patterns that can be predictable and explainable.
If economics is a bullshit science its only because of bullshit application of the scientific method.
You need to read more than one book if you want to understand anything
Buy high
Sell low

There, I saved you hours of time, you don't need book.
Aren't you guys focusing too much on investing?
Interesting answers guys.
I appreciate it. In fact this is not the first time that I hear about "Economics in one lesson". What are your thoughts on "Rich Dad Poor Dad"? Is it just a meme?
I used this book during when I took an econ class in undergrad.
