Is LinkedIn relevant anymore?

Is LinkedIn relevant anymore?
Asking because I'm job hunting and I've been told I should have a LinkedIn account, but I'm not sure who told me is up-to-date.

yes, if i did anything useful in college when I was going for my IT degree is make a linked in and get it well connected. multiple job offers per day, don't even want to see my CV.

You stand no chance if you don't have it

Unless your details can be found online, people and recruiters think you're a weirdo

It's BS once you are experienced a bit. Recruiters (sales rep) will reach you (organic / inbound) and then when you follow-up they won't respond. Congratulations you are now part of "reach" (sales targets set by recruiters' managers) for softwares that run on top of LinkedIn. And then there are notorious "keywords" filters. Fuck off this scam !

I guess I'm fucked because I'm a social media ghost
Might make linkedin one day if I had to

Wait a minute, this fucking thing looks like Facebook or something. Is it just more 'social media' bullshit? Seriously, is this stupid-looking thing going to do my career any good or not? It sets my teeth on edge just looking at it..

i had it until linkedin pulled some shit where they emailed every person i've ever had contact with in my email my linked in profile

deleted that shit, will never return

it's also like a form of social credit because employees and employers can leave reviews. fuck that

This
I have no social media but all over LinkedIn for my business

..yeah I squicked pretty hard when it wanted to scrape all my email contacts, then started throwing names of people where I used to work at me, people I've never even heard of before. It also immediately wanted me to upload a pic of myself; I DO NOT DO THAT, EVER. Almost bailed out of it right then and there.

I do not use 'social media' because I think it's cancerous. This already smells way too much like social media. If it's going to help me get a better job then I might be able to hold my nose, but if it's just going to splay my life open to the world and get all my personal information sold off to dickhead companies so they can spam me and profile me and shit like that, then no fucking way.

It's owned by Facebook you mong
It's a data mining company like any other, saying you can't get hired is like saying you can't get pussy without a Snapchat or whatever the fuck people use these days, it's not true in the slightest but people who aren't technically oriented use it as their go-to recruiting platform because it has as much data (and more) as Facebook does

If you want to work for "the big 4" or become a partner at some law firm or run/work for a consulting company you should just buckle down and use it.

I try to not use it unless I am looking for talent or expanding my network to potential clients, I do all correspondence over phone and email and don't let the platform keep tabs on my social habits outside of my professional networking tendencies

Some might call it a "neccesery evil" but then again some people say that about a college degree and I don't have one. "To each his own"

>It's owned by Facebook you mong
Well how the fuck am I supposed to know that!?

>It's a data mining company like any other
That sure as fuck is what it feels like.

Just closed the account I just opened. If it's owned by Facebook then I want nothing to do with it. Until someone shows me hard proof I'm going to get fewer job opportunities unless I use this thing, then they can fucking keep it.

yeah i was working a job for 60k a year and a recruiter messaged me on linkedin and got me one for 95k a year. 50% raise just dropped in my lap.

linkedin is owned by microsoft.

i guess stuff like this & such linkedin relevancy only happens in america

>show mehard proof
np man I'll just throw together a 10000 person study controlled for race, gender, and education level as well as geographical location

brb

>Unless your details can be found online, people and recruiters think you're a weirdo
this.. if you want to get hired at any company large enough to have an HR department you need to have an online presence. its bullshit.

could be. also i have a pretty solid skill set, am a good interviewee, and was working in a very similar job at the time. also gotta get the job but linkedin was a foot in the door

linkedin alone isnt bad cause you don't provide too much detail. i also wouldnt DL the app cause i don't want my location tracked.

not on any other social media

the poaching is real, i work in sales nd i see posts every day with strong offers

Nah it's owned by Facebook and Instagram :^)

not true
had no problems getting a job without linkedin

They don't think you're a weirdo, but they will look it out to see your profile.

It's free exposure for you in a controlled way, so make sure you profile is good and you have a professional headshot that presents you in the best possible light.

Where did I say you needed it mong?
How are you supposed to know Instagram is owned by Facebook? By not being a complete fucking idiot

You just defeated the purpose of not signing up retard, now they have your data regardless

Here's a simple test; what are your opportunities looking like right now? Did you find more opportunity when you tried it out? Oooohhhhhhhh, you didn't give it a shot, I guess you wont know

Of you are too retarded to find opportunity yourself (seems so) then LinkedIn wont help you more than letting all your potential employers know not to hire you kek

Having my picture online is a deal-breaker.

LOL the only 'data' of mine they have is a name and an email address and that's all, I didn't give them anything else, and it's an email account I can literally delete if too many of the wrong people get it.

Sure as fuck hope for everyone else's sake you don't work in customer service or have to work closely with too many people because you're an abrasive insufferable cunt to people.

LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft, not Facebook.

I've had several recruiters make contact with me and I do not have a photo

Who do you guys add on LinkedIn?
So far I've been working under a rule that I'll only add people if I've personally (closely) worked with them and can vouch for them, so I turn down people who work at the same company but who I don't really know.

Yes, it’s very relevant. I work for a fortune 50 company and get %90 of my headhunting calls from there.

>Santa Clara
>75-95k
Yup, that's a yikes from me.

Yeah it’s why I turned them down.

You should turn all recruiters down. They are scum and pocket a percentage of what you are supposed to earn.

Every job during my senior year in college I applied for on LinkedIn I at least got a call back.

Every job. My degree is pretty memey too.

Yes dude, you should and not just because some boomer told you to. It’s fun. Like your resume, you get to “show off how awesome you are” except without the limitation of being made explicitly to be read by someone you hope to get a job from. You can just shoot the shit and be a Chad (even if you aren’t, pretending works) and any awkward behavior is instantly dismissed because muh professional atmosphere.

Lol I get great offers by having a picture that makes me look like a trendy silicon valley zoomer who doesnt give two shits about corporate mentality. Fuck headshots.

woa nice pasta that recruiter sent you.

No, it's for boomers and s o y i m.

I guess the price is linkedin today
