Should i become a firefighter?

should i become a firefighter?

>50k starting
>65k after 4 years
>25 years of service then you can retire with pension
>work 10 days a month
>work out at the station in between calls

sounds like the perfect escape from the 9-5 corporate hellscape

Maybe. But remember it's a dangerous job and even if you don't get directly hurt, your body is probably going to have problems after 25 years of service.

Nah fire fighters are top tier douche bags I don't think you could be around them for longer than a couple weeks

OP I graduated with my Fire Protection Technology degree this year in hopes of being a firefighter. Did you know after 10 years of working first response your student loans are forgiven?
Here is the rundown OP:
>Get to go on adventures
>Be apart of a brotherhood that will ALWAYS have your back
>Get to make food and chill out with bros when not working out
>People get instant respect for you when you tell them you are a firefighter

Not always true. Airport firefighting or working somewhere like the VA is for the firefighters that don't want any action and just want to collect an easy paycheck.

Ask away any questions you may have OP. Keep in mind I'm not even a paid firefighter yet because of the amount of people in my area that want to be a firefighter and the tests only come around every two years or so. People who are part of a fire department, have multiple certifications, a degree, a rank in the fire service, experience and work as EMT's still can't find a job as a firefighter unless they are really willing to move anywhere because of how competitive it is. The places where it isn't as hard to get into the fire service also happen to not be unionized so if you get hurt on the job your shit out of luck.

Ask any questions. Firefighting is one of the best jobs in the world. If you are doing firefighting you are doing it for pure adventure, fun, comradeship and helping out people. The fact you get paid and don't have to work as much (even on the job if there is no calls) is just a bonus.
This is the opposite of a wagecuck job.
Any questions? Again, ask away.

>be apart of
apart means "separate from", you mong.

Do it. I volunteered at a fire house and they sleep, shitpost, watch sports and eat all fucking day. The station is literally a clubhouse

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. As someone in the fire service I can say that yes there is SOME dooshbags. Just like any other job or in real life. But the reality is that you nobody like a dooshbag in the fire service. Everyone you meet is pretty chill, down to earth. Even if they do come off as dooshy it is just because they are breaking balls or dicking around having fun. If you take things to seriously then the fire service/first response may not be for you. Police officers are where the doosh bags are. Firefighters don't have a reason to be dooshbags because of their jobs because they love their jobs. Police officers on the other hand....

Anyway the reason some firefighters are dooshy or come of as so is because their ego gets inflated by themselves and others. Also sometimes they come off as dooshy because the people around them are idiots about a particular subject or are disrespectful.
Example is the common citizen/bystander. They can get in the way or fuck things up with their ignorance so while on the job some firefighters may not have the best etiquette in dealing with these types of situations.

How fucked am I without any formal FF or EMT training?

I’m in Austin, the site specifically says having EMT or FF qualifications will not aid you in the hiring process and only serve as “personal knowledge”.

Not at all. It is civil service test based. Go and find out what civil service tests are being offered in your city. Take as many as you can even if it something like librarian. It will help you take the firefighter one even if the questions and content are different the format and structure is the same.

Cool thanks man. This has been all I’ve been thinking about for months and the application period starts next Feb. Getting into this career seems like the best thing that could happen to me

My sister just became a firerighter. Ama

It is. This is life at it's pinnacle whilst living in our society. You will have an amazing time. Do it. It might take you YEARS even 6 years to get into an actual firefighting job. Way less if you are willing to move anywhere. But never give up.

>chance of being burned alive > 0%
>not even making 6 figures
Pure cuckery

Ive seen more than enough faggot porns to know that firefighters are all a bunch of pole smoking fudge packers. If thats your thing OP by all means, go for it. But youre risking your life in multiple ways. Death by fire. Death by smoke inhalation. Death by AIDS. Death by 9-11. Its not worth it man.

better than death by whatever cancer i’m getting staring at a computer from 9-5 days a week

>Being scared of death
Cucked.

Probably if you can do so in a wealthy city. Not worth it if you have to risk your life pulling old people out of burning complexes, but if its just residential, you probably will never get hurt.

This. There's an entire subculture concerned with the singular task of getting hired. People take the shittiest pay to drive private ambulances, become residents (living at the station), go through two year college programs, and live-breathe-sleep interview prep.

Also, know that the job is drastically different based on where you actually work. In the East, they run fires several times a day. Out West, everyone is an EMT because they're not financially viable otherwise.

Look around rural areas and small townships. Find a department with a volunteer program, bonus points if they have career too.
You need to do the job to know that it's for you. The work culture, the approach to danger, the commitment to service.

Also the hardest part of the process is the interview panel. This experience isn't vital, but it's 15:1 that you'll rely on it at this stage. There's a small subset of officers who want unmolested clay to mold into their way of operation, but they're fucking pricks who usually get outvoted.

I can refer you to a couple in West WA if you're within two or three states. Don't know where other user is, but hopefully he can help too.
(Also graduated a vocational program, enlisted to get dat veteran bonus--but came back with a mental condition that would make me a liability.)

Why don't you faggots just join the military?

> 23 years old, make 50k a year. Way more if you are an officer.
> Full benefits
> Free college
> VA takes care of you for life

>dies

i don’t feel like uprooting myself and shipping off to wherever. i’d rather just find stability here at home

That's why you join the coast guard and basically be a firefighter on the water.

You can join the reserves, stay where you're located, and use that to help apply to become a fire fighter.

Firefighters in many municipalities also respond to medical emergencies and car accidents, so if you're willing to have PTSD from seeing horrible car accidents, drug overdoses, and suicides, you might want to reconsider.

You shouldn't get any government job

Try getting into farming, we are entering a new mini ice age

>25 years of service then you can retire with pension
