You reduce military spending by taking troops out of places that won't create a massive power vacuum. Then you reduce social welfare spending. Then invest a shit ton in infrastructure, infrastructure generates the most jobs and revenue upon investment, and invest in education in a meaningful way, raising teacher pay doesn't increase the quality of education, never has and it never will. In twenty years the kids who benefited from the better education will move into a fixed university system, the public universities will have a $500 per semester tuition, fixing the thing that is currently most likely to cause the next economic rescission. The power of accreditation boards will have their power stripped so that the focus of college can be the quality of education. With a new population of highly educated citizens we can fully move away from manufacturing and bolster our SERVICE based economy.

You guys realize that even if we operated in a surplus we would never be out of debt? Every dollar that exists is owned to someone plus interest.

The only way to end debt is to end the Fed, switched to a scarcity backed currency, and negotiate our existing foreign debt down while waving a magic wand and saying our debt to the Fed no longer exists.

Then we enact fiscally responsible policies moving forward.

But the national debt is just a meaningless number that is used as an excuse to hike taxes. Why would they want to get rid of it?

Let me clarify for him: US debt isn't actually that bad a thing. The world economy depends on US fiat currency to keep afloat. The answer shouldn't be "How can we fix our debt problems?" because no debt means no more money supply than the current number of printed bills in circulation. A better solution would be trying to eliminate the deficit (or at least getting it to where inflation mostly negates it).

The reason the USA is in such debt is because they act as an empire only without collecting the debt.
meaning - they have military presence in shithole countries, basically conquering them, only to let them live happily as long as they don't become communists.
this is not the way an empire work, they spend trillions on the military budget but yield nothing.
had they taxxed + required labor from every person under their military occupation, the USA would get rid of the debt few years after conquering all of Africa and the Middle east.

OP, i don't think you understand...If there is no debt there is no 'money'. As all money is debt, if you pay the promissory note off that 'money' is now gone! BUT you can't pay a debt with debt, only way to 'pay' is bankers acceptance i.e I plan on keeping this
