how do i start a hardware company biz? (let's say its for something small like ledger nano).
background; I know how to program fpga's and also programming in general (i am well-above average; Not to sound cocky just for background). No qualifications other than high school diploma. I have $35k left over from last bullrun and am 18yo.
What steps does one have to take? i assume first i need to write out specs for the hardware (will still need professional opinion/consulting for this). Then find a hardware manufacturing/asic factory that can make the chip.
Then marketing budget etc. I think in total I will need $150k of funding. Is there a way to "fake it until i make it"? Somehow leverage the $35k into $150k of value? e.g. asic factory may only require 50% deposit for manufacturing and then the rest later or something like that?
Forgive me... who would buy a Hardware Wallet? There isn't even anything to buy with Crypto. Maybe you should work on finding a way to give people something to buy with it first...

also ledger and trezor pretty much have an duopoly over this industry but it's still possible to compete with them imo. when the next bullrun comes it may not be the case and they will be way too far ahead.
there are still lots of UI/UX problems with using ledger and trezor but only a matter of time they fix them. so its about securing a foothold while there is still a chance.

let's pretend you get your 150k and that's all you need to research the components, hire 3rd party oversight and get x number of devices manufactured. who's going to do the marketing, distribution, work out deals with wherever you're going to sell them etc? ledger, trezor and keepwhatever have the mindshare, it's going to take a lot more than 150k to even dent them. they're proven and you're not. steep hill to climb for someone with 100x your theoretical startup capital
