Im thinking to try a job on cruiseship. For a lets say bartender you will get about 2500e + tips. Free food, accommodation, healthcare, you dont have where to spend money, you can fuck girls from crew and afterhours trading funny internet money. Additionally you can travel and see great places and have time ti learn something new. Any one of you anons have an experience with that?
Work on a cruiseship
There is a reason most cruise ship workers are third world shitskins, OP
Shit pay, brutal hours, terrible customers.
well I talked with a guy who works there as bartender and with tips he get like 4-5k euro which is not bad for a user with no euro as currency. He said that sometimes have a 12h shifts but overall its nice adventure and if you want you can save some money. Im tired of my current work and this seems pretty exciting. 8weeks on sea and 4 weeks home
Ex-merchant marine guy here: Yes. You get insurance too, as well as a paid after-contract leave. You have to be "Jow Forums" enough for work though(no disabilities, missing digits, etc.) and not be "over"-overweight, most companies discourage tattoos. You pay for personal necessities though, like shavers and the like. Oh, and cruise ships avoid high wave height courses so you don't have to worry about being sea sick as much as cargo ships trying to impress charterers.
yeah Im fit without tattos and have some background in working with people. What are biggest pros and cons? how long you worked there? Can I smoke weed when Im in a port?
>brutal hours
Holy shit, this. MLC 2006 is a lie.
what if you have a criminal record for drug possession?
should I look into alaskan crab fishing instead
yeah I heard that there could be even 12h shifts but you get paid for afterhours. Even if you are on fucking ship so you gonna stay there even if you dont want to. Im ok with that, I loke working with people + its great opportunity to have a girl in every port
yup crab only. You have to be clean
Hey user, I’ve thought about doing some travel by paying for a cabin on a cargo ship. What would this be like? Is it shit? Do the crew bother talking to those people at all?
I was on a cruise shit once when a shitskin waiter stabbed another shitskin and jumped off the boat (royal caribbean cruise)
we had to turn the boat around and look for that asshole and eventually they picked him up in the ocean and put him in the boat jail
then they had to race to a port to get the stabbing victim medical help, they said he survived but our waiter said he got stabbed in the neck so I doubt he made it
so I mean they hire literal 3rd world turks but a drug possession arrest makes me unqualified lol
Barring military service, how does someone get an entry level seaman job?
I'm not sure about drug possesion, all I know is you have to give them non criminal certificate
Neck wound can be survived, especially considering every cruise ship must have at least one doctor and nurse aboard
There was an article in the Guardian newspaper by a journalist who did that. I CBA finding it for you, but it’ll be on their website
>What are biggest pros and cons?
Some pros:
All the crew you have sex with has passed the same rigorous medical you have
Depending on your local income tax laws, the tax-man can't get you
Depending on the ship, you get "extras" and "allowances" other than the tips you get from the customers
Someone cleans the room
Someone does the laundry
A lot of fucking cameras so no one can steals your shit
Free condoms
Time off every so to use the amenities the guests are using like the casino, pool, etc.
You get time to roam the port and nearby cities
Some cons:
There is frequent change in management, and you have to adapt differently with each
Regular drills
Depending on your country, lots of training certificates
Medicals
You're always "Ok" or "Fine."
You are NEVER sick, not even a cough from you
You are NEVER in accidents, not even losing your balance
You are NEVER drunk, if you feel a buzz go back to your cabin
If you see people fight, you go back to your cabin, NEVER try to stop it.
A permanent record that may black-list you from seafaring forever, never pick a fight, don't even raise your voice
>how long you worked there?
I got some years in me. I've been in a little on how easy it was for prostitutes, naive girls who "want a better life", strip frisking chandlers in the gangway during the ISPS implementation.
>Can I smoke weed when Im in a port?
Ask your staff-captain. Local laws and customs officials especially in corrupt countries such as those in the South East Asia trade-in offenses for bottles of whiskey to cigarette reams or botch surprise-PSC inspections, don't be on the receiving end of the declaration and mess up your confidential report.
thanks for the reply!
I think Im gonna try it. Fuck it IM 28 and broke up with girl couple months ago if not now then never. Also my cash flow is not best I ever had. In free time I will learn some programming and trade.
>What would this be like? Is it shit?
I have no experience with that, and I can't give you anything other than stories and guesswork.
>how does someone get an entry level seaman job?
Ask your local maritime authority, it's mostly documentation, certificates, and a few months of training. English is the language of the sea, everyone even in emergencies on both ends should be fluent.
One more question. Did you save some money there or spend most of it in bar?
All of this is 100% larping.
the ultimate wagie job
performing services to rich succesful NEETs while getting no thanks and crying to sleep
>In free time I will learn some programming and trade.
That sounds like a good plan. There is a reason why working at sea is one of the worst. Never stay for more than half a decade, it will burn your life away.
>Did you save some money there or spend most of it in bar?
I split it on the bar and paying credit card debt. I'm a dumb fuck.
Yeah my dad's brother in law's brother in law did that. Though he lost everything he earned on his elder brother
it's shit, you'll have to work 13 hours a day and the pollution caused by cruiseships is imense, so you'll be breathing shit air actually
Im already pretty broke so I will do my best to save something
I dont want to retire there. Im thinking about some 6-12month
haha I just got a call and I'm going for an interview in tuesday
>you can fuck girls from crew
from what I hear this is heavily discouraged (it leads to tension and fights inside the crew) to the point of being a disciplinary offense
they gonna spy me in my free time?
they don't even need to spy on you, it is an enclosed space with lots of cameras and a finite number of people, word gets around etc
crew ships have like 400 staff. just dont fuck all the ones from your department
