I'm sick of doing degenerate shit, I'm trying to be a better man in 2019.

So I made an Excel in which I will monitor the degenerate and the good stuff. Every day will generate a score.

Degenerate :
- Fapping to porn;
- Drinking alcohol on any other day then saturday;
- Using painkillers ( like ibuprofen);
- Over eating (more then daily normal cal intake)'
- Sleeping les then 6 hours.

Good :
- Working out
- Sex
- Spending time on personal development

My goal is
- To see patterns in my behaviour
- To know how bad I'm treating my body
- Hopefully do less degenerate stuff

Anybody else doing the same?

I'm doing a similar thing this year. Not going to asian massage places, not fapping to porn, saving more money, & trying to make better trades. So far i've slipped up twice but that's it.

..also, another thing i'm doing is intermediate fasting everyday with a work out. I highly recommend it. Burn fat, gain muscle, & oddly enough you don't want to fap because when you fast you focus on so many other things.

Instead of using a spreadsheet you can use the app Nomie. It's much easier. It lets you export and backup your data. I've been logging everything I do for the past 3 years. AMA.

Degenerate is pretty subjective apparently. Most doctors agree masturbation is healthy and it relieves stress in ways sex does not. I wouldn’t call that degenerate. I also don’t see why using pain killers like ibuprofen is degenerate. It’s medicine meant to help people. If you had a curable cancer would you not take the medicine needed to cure it because that’s degenerate to you? Daily normal calorie intake is not correct for most people, it’s a recommended amount based on an average. The chances that’s right for you are 1 in probably thousands.

OP, good on you for wanting to improve yourself. Keeping track is even better as our brains are very short term thinking.

I recommend having some type of reward for reaching your goal, whether it's daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly. Positive reinforcement is a lot better than punishing yourself.

ADD/ADHD is real in my experience. However, our environment that is screen/tech focused can cause people to have symptoms that minic it.

A lack of dopamine in the pre-frontal cortex is one current theory. That part of the brain isn't fully developed until around 25 and some adults will outgrow the diagnosis.

Getting a diagnosis can be very helpful in gaining access through referrals to therapy, in particular, cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT focuses on practicing better behavior and learning about tools to help with focus. Therapy also has someone who helps keep you on the path towards improvement.

Meds should be viewed as an option and can be helpful, especially when tired in with therapy.

Interestingly enough, anxiety can also mimic ADHD. Once again, therapy can help with that.

Some ideas to help with focus:
-Get iron levels checked. Low iron levels can cause some ADHD like symptoms.
-Get Vitamin D levels checked (good idea all around as it's a coenzyme in over 200 functions in the body and most people are deficent).
-For both of the above, ask your provider for a full metabolic panel. It'll give you that info and more.
-Take Fish Oil at 300 mg 2x a day.
-Exercise if you can. Cardio in particular can help reduce anxiety and reduce ADHD symptoms. Weight training is also nice.
-Clean your environment to reduce distractions. Keeps your brain from having to focus on too much.
-Eat leafy greens, fruits, veggies, oats, beans and other healthy foods. You'll feel better over time and will have more consistent energy. If transitioning from high carb foods/sugar, you'll feel kinda bad the first week.

-Look for foods like kefir, yogurt and other fermented foods. These help with good gut flora. 80% of your serotonin is from your gut.
-Get lots of sunshine and have a consistent sleep schedule to try to net 7-9 hours of sleep.
-Look into a good set of noise canceling headphones for when you need to sit down and focus. It's crazy how much this can help. Baseball caps can also help reduce external stimuli as well.
-Close all tabs you don't need when working or create a new window with work/school related tabs only.
-Set a timer for 15 minutes when working. If you can make it past this first bit of time, you'll be quite likely to focus more on the task.
-Meditate or at least nap for 20 minutes a day when possible. I have migraine headaches and doing this in a dark room mitigates them massively. My favorite time is after breakfast or before work. Set a timer so you don't go overboard.
-Reduce Vidya game and chan time. Chans are easy to be sucked into.
-Find something to be grateful for, at least one thing once a day. Something simple like the people who put the time into to make the food you are eating and even the farmers who grew/rasied when you are eating. Doesn't have to be religious.

OP, Keep working on improving yourself and you'll get to a better place. It won't be perfect and you might fall out of step sometimes, but it's ok. Also good that you aren't overdoing pain meds. Ibuprofen and Tylenol can reduce white blood cell count by 10-20% with two weeks of daily use. Also, chronic use can lead to phantom headaches that aren't there.

A good example of your logic is the following: The other day an user referred to "resorting to discipline" in order to counter his animalistic jealousy, such that he can indulge in polyamory. He considered this intelligent. But why he wouldn't "resort to discipline" to counter his animalistic drive towards wanting to pursue polyamory? I am sure he wouldn't be able to tell you. Because he must use discipline and reason to rationalize what is objectively a vice, rather than a virtue. And this would surely be objectively degenerate from today's state of the human mind. And there's really no arguing against it. But it makes sense to his biased brain, which wants to indulge more and more and more. And destroy more and more and more.
