Anyone else have a stupid easy job that pays way more than they deserve
Literally all I did today was commit 5 lines of JavaScript and they pay me 130k. There’s no work for me so I just browse Jow Forums the entire time. I’m actually extremely afraid of getting fired once they realize how little I do, I wish I was assigned more work.
Me but with my clients. I feel guilty as fuck for charging people so much for my service. Not that it's wrong since they cannot get the job done themselves and I'm just using market rates, but still it's disgusting to the soul. You feel like you rob common people.
Jack Reed
Statistical analyst here. All I do is put numbers in excel
Do you guys work from home? If so I need to get in on this shit.
Henry Wright
Lol I literally make like 3 phone calls and collect at least 5k out of an insurance settlement. At least 5 cases a month and often higher figures. Personal injury lawyer ftw I work like 10 hrs a week and my paralegal does most of the work.
Julian Bennett
You do more than most of the developers I work with. I think you're fine as long as your performance is "adequate" Don't be a star, they'll just expect more of you
Jason Wood
And i pay her $12 an hour :^)
Jeremiah Young
No I work in a firm. I got the jobs by completing this program in college for ex felons
Ethan Roberts
You're literally me, except I only get paid $120k/year
Henry Green
Also, what the fuck. I used to have a frontend dev job and on average committed a couple hundred lines of JS per DAY, with some days even going into the thousands (and they weren't just copypasted lines or boilerplate either). Are most dev jobs actually this easy?
Noah Long
Same here user I play online chess, read niche reddits and day trade when I (theoretically) should be working Huge company with an office full of indian NPCs who do nothing but eat curry, browse facebook, and take up space. It's comfy albeit unfulfilling and I'm getting worried the hammer might come down on me. I get paid 68k roughly as a Java dev. Very little actual work assigned to me beyond vague requests to "help with X" or "do some testing"
>Don't be a star, they'll just expect more of you truth. it was fun for a few years but now i'm getting tired of it. they do treat me well in terms of money and work schedule flexibility, but it's draining being the go-to guy for everything.
Gavin Jackson
I run alexa top 50k site everything was made by me from scratch yet it barely pays minimum wage
Worked maybe three hours today, took an hour lunch (paid). Shitposted on Jow Forums, looked at apartments on Craigslist, and left half an hour early (I was the last person in the office). Earned $200 today ($50k/yr) + free health/dental/vision/life/LTD/legal insurance + 5% 401k matching.
I pity trade cucks imao. College degrees are great.
Luis Kelly
1. Be an American
2. Don’t be a cuck
Mason Turner
T-T-Thanks.
I can do 2 but I can't do 1. Am I screwed?
Gabriel Long
If you know what you're doing and learn to finagle around office politics yeah. 130k is a lot more than I make though (75k burger bucks plus OT), but I'm in the rust belt and cost of living here is dirt cheap.
You'll have some challenging days, but if you average out actual work I probably do 1.5-2hrs day.
Blake Lopez
So would you rather:
1) Have an easy as fuck job where you get all your work done in a 9-5 workday and you have little to no stress, and you get paid $70,000 a year.
2) Have a job that is more challenging, requires you to work 8 - 6pm most days, and has you stressed out about presentations, deadlines, etc. But you get paid $120,000 a year.
I'm currently in position 1, but I've started looking for more demanding jobs cause I know I have the education and experience to handle them. I just don't know if the extra ~50% salary would be worth the extra stress and work.
Colton Morales
Either would be better than my current setup of working 60hrs a week for $36k
Liam Long
How is this even possible? Is this how most jobs are? Is it a big ass meme? Fuck. Might finally cave and get one.
Isaiah Cruz
I'll be made during the next bull so I need to make just enough money to keep the lights on and live a little, in as stress free and fun and flexible a way as possible. These 5 lines of JS per day coding jobs sound like a fucking dream.
Logan Peterson
Seems to be very dependent on where you live because my dev job wasn't like that at all.
Matthew Harris
>indian NPCs i lol'd
Daniel Clark
The alt right telling the truth about SV being filled with pajeet code monkeys that take lower pay than an American would?
Eli Evans
Literally all good jobs are like this these days. 90% doing nothing. 10% writing 300 words / making a few phone calls / writing 3 lines of code. This economy is retarded lol.
Matthew Butler
At my programming job I spent 6 hours a day watching twitch, playing LoL or fucking around with my friends at work.
Lucas Brooks
I make the equivalent of 15k USD/year with no benefits (except health care).
30y/o Brazilian living in Tokyo washing dishes....
Benjamin Ward
just adding a bit more to this While the work is obviously braindead, it is required that I work at full retarded speed because it's a place that gets crowded, but I only work 5 hours p day, 5 days a week.
Zachary Diaz
The entire western work force is essentially a bubble itself you’re saying? I’ve heard it was like this but holy fuck. Disruption/automation is going to wipe out so many jobs faster than they can be replaced. The fuck happens then..?
Tyler Jackson
Free Asian women though?
Kevin Morgan
I send about 4 emails in a day and flip through papers for a bit. I spend about 45 min everyday actually working. 65k 24 yrs old
Josiah Perry
Doing what?
Lucas Cooper
When will this bubble pop?
Matthew Williams
fuedal futurism
Nolan Sanchez
Sheeit my monkey man. If you are able to operate a computer you've got to get out of the dishwashing game. At least go up north and be a farmhand in Yamagata. You'll get varied life with the seasons, riding badass rice tractors and flying spray-drone helicopters. Also super cheap to buy houses. People may be racist sure, but they are also depserate for workers, so they will let it pass as long as you don't chimp out. Ask a Japanese person to find you a northern job posting in a newspaper or online classified.
Jaxson Hughes
Fuck you guys I have a retarded boss with whom I'm practically equal who takes on more and more and more work than he has to. He's the biggest cuck. I try to talk sense into him. When a mistake is made he freaks out and just starts adding more checks and processes without improving our removing anything existing. It's a fucking nightmare. He's had like 5-6 different people in my role working under him and I'm about feed up. How can he not realize he's so toxic to work with with that turnover? It kills me because he's actually a good dude who would give you the shirt off your back literally. Nigger comes in late because he had to help an old lady in the side of the road to change a tire.
Carter Nguyen
It's an interesting question actually. If I were to lie about my nationality, I could get many women into bed. There are lots of asian girls looking specifically for foreigners, though they're usually trashy (not in terms of appearance, more in personality).
The girls that are worth it won't be going to the kind of place I work, it's mostly a place for old japanese men to smoke, talk shit and get shitfaced. Because Japanese people are horrible at identifying people "from the outside world", I can get away with saying I'm French or Italian and 90% of them fall for it (I say this because of stereotypes they have towards these nationalities). Saying you're Brazilian is shooting yourself in the foot though, Japanese hate us with a passion and I don't blame them. However, if I were seeking a relationship, I obviously wouldn't lie about my nationality. As it is though, I don't care about making out with these desperate girls who'll fuck any foreigner, I'd much rather go to a soapland every now and then and get a hot girl that'll work for it.
Nathaniel Sanchez
where you work? SF?
Lincoln James
Office engineer for civil service. The Department works slowwwww.
Thomas Bailey
I work on a boat, get half the year off and make 60-70k... “I pity the trades”
Charles Wilson
>soapland ? How’d you end up in Tokyo?
Benjamin Allen
thanks for the tip.
Yeah I really need to get out of the big city, I'm not cut for it I think. I mean it's obviously better than anywhere in Brazil but I was hoping I could end up in rural Kyoto or something like that... I honestly don't care about not making a lot of money, but the kind of life people lead in cities like Tokyo and Osaka is not what I'm looking for.
Might have to look into working in a farm in Yamagata. It looks like a nice part of Japan for sure... Akita and Aomori too, maybe a little bit too rural but still nice.
I've heard great things about Hokkaido but haven't been there yet.
Leo Butler
Meant to answer
Asher Lopez
how much does actually knowing accounting matter when you get a job? Im in school now and just cram for every test. I have a high GPA but retain hardly anything.
Dominic Roberts
Soapland >A full-service bathing facility, and by full-service I mean FULL-SERVICE. Men are bathed by women, and the women also perform sexual favors for the men.
William Sanchez
Legal? Fuck that sounds dope.
Henry Wright
>How’d you end up in Tokyo?
Sorry forgot to answer this. It's a long, "funny" story but I'll try to make it short. Anyway, I used to be a police officer working for an elite unit of the Military Police. I ended up graduating and getting a Bachelor's Degree in Law which was my doom so to speak. Because I speak English (and had a degree) I ended up as a 1st Lieutenant and getting the short end of the stick being sent to one of the most dangerous cities in my state (homicide rate of 90.0 per 100k), border city.
To make a long story short, in 2 years I had 5 attempts on my life, 3 of which I actually ended up getting shot. Add the stress of "usual" work and I couldn't take it anymore so I ended up leaving. Thing is though, that's what I had done my whole life so I don't know how to do anything else.
Anyway, I have a Japanese/Brazilian friend from my childhood who operates a restaurant here and he was able to "invite" me as a "Specialist in Humanities" Visa by sponsoring me and using some loopholes in the Japanese system. I guess you could see me as a refugee of sorts lol.
Noah Jones
so I'm stuck in this loophole... I guess some Japanese classes for free and I speak English and Portuguese... but I have no applicable skills. My degree is also pretty much worthless here.
I rent a rundown room my friend got me which I share with a Chinese guy.
Henry Perez
>I guess some Japanese classes for free
I take*** don't know why I wrote "guess" there.
Matthew Butler
That’s fucking wild man, very cool. At least you don’t have to worry about getting murdered in Japan.
Logan Fisher
No penetration in soap lands.
Camden Nguyen
>Earned $200 today ($50k/yr) lol I stopped reading there
Cooper Bennett
Which is why I'm not complaining, really. By all means it's not a good situation, but I get to live in a very safe, clean and cool country (though the actual building I live in is filth).
I do need to find a way to get out of here and move elsewhere inside the country because of the costs of living in Tokyo and the aspects of life here which are crushing if you don't make enough. I don't complain though, just take one day at a time. I think things should improve once my Japanese is up to par, but that'll take long.
Anthony Ross
Who /doubledipping/ here?
I work for a fortune 50 making well over $100k and I literally do Upwork/Craigslist engineering projects on company time.
Lucas Sanchez
Making 70k on a shitty data analyst gig, 40 hrs a week but I do like 10 hours of real work, rest of the time is spent running my eBay shop. It's a hobby but I also net around 15k annually from it
Jeremiah Lopez
>rest of the time is spent running my eBay shop
Tell me more. Do you automate or subcontract any processes to make it more remote control like that?
Mason Harris
selling what?
Bentley Hill
I’m a windows engineer. My job would be automated if it wasn’t contract based and basically immune to change.
127k. Today I tried to download some stuff for an app, and failed. Gonna do a bit of patching tomorrow.
Charles Perry
>he makes windows >127k Nice larp faggot ahahah
Andrew Lee
I here I am busting my ass every day for $23/hr. I wish I could get paid for doing nothing I would be researching crypto literally all fucking day.
Colton Edwards
Its all bullshit. Literally every accounting job I've ever worked after graduating, including this one, could have been done with a HS diploma or certification and some on the job training. But I have the piece of paper and the debt and thus I have the job.
So as long as you make a 3.0 GPA in your major you should be fine, unless you want to go Big 4/CPA maximum wage cuckery.
Aiden Rogers
Why don't you work on side projects instead of browsing incel central?
Brandon James
how do japanese treat you?
Nathaniel Hughes
Tell him. Communicate what the others were scared to.
Andrew Garcia
This. In australia- My bro worked for a small firm for a year & got offered so many fucking jobs. Huge demand for actual fucking workers. If you're good you can clear a mill a year easy.
Levi Long
I've got a part-time job delivering Pizzas here in Australia. $21 an hour $26 on sundays $47 on public holidays
Are you guys serious? I quit my 100K/year health care job to go back to school for comp sci because i'm tired of working full stressful 8 hours days where someone might die if I fuck up.
Please tell me you're not just meming.
Logan James
with the way our dollar is doing that'll be $10 USD per hour soon
Lincoln Hughes
Mind telling me your secrets? Currently undergrad, would love statistics
Do you need to know R and python and what do you use and actually do at work, except excel. How do you get from here to there?
Sorry to hear that man, living the dangerous life and getting death threats must be tough. Hope you get a comfy job in the countryside
Nathaniel Miller
Fuck all of you faggots.
Help me out here. Don’t bother to try & keep scrolling because you just lost The Game and will die in your sleep tonight if you don’t answer.
I have TWO (2) engineering degrees - Electrical Eng. and Biometrics - and I am so broke it’s actually hilarious. Last month I started carrying a balance on one of my credit cards (about $3500 of $12k combined limit), and am extremely good at living on basically nothing but apparently have full-blown autism when it comes to getting a job. Really not sure what I should do at this point.
Here comes the cancer: >US-istan >went to state university, graduated in Spring of ‘17 >got job at a large, well-known company, doing circuit testing >$29/hr out of school, not bad >boring as fuck assembly-line wagecage type position, disguised as slightly more upscale “””technician””” gig >excessive, draconian “safety” rules >have to wear antistatic smock/wristband/goggles all day >computers blocked from internet access >can’t use smartphones, ever >near-zero potential for upward career movement Around this time (november 2017) I got balls-deep into crypto, so >fascinated by watching charts all day (no prior stocks experience or anything) >get in trouble on a regular basis for using phone >want to sharpen my limited software dev skills anyway, so I can make my own crypto-related shit >learn Solidity, start spawning shitcoins >learn that freelancers doing this make triple-digit hourly rates >eventually quit job to try this full-time >do freelance and consulting shit on Upwork for a while, living off savings from job
And finally we come to now. >demand for solidity devs is nonexistent >branch off into mining consulting, writing gigs, etc on upwork, but it’s basically a dead end now >get pretty good at margin trading on bitmex, keep up with crypto constantly >but savings totally gone >living in West Virginia (total hick-ass trash state) with qt gf, who works shitty retail job
no unskilled labour deserves that pay for that job, disgusting, but i dont blame you, ride that train friend, our government however deserves the rope for letting it get to this.
our economy is a fucking charade, we let shitskins mine us to shit, fuck our country up, while lefty hippies protest it because they dont understand we need to allow it, because we dont have anything but mining and tourism, everything else in the country is in place to support that. we dont make anything, we dont do anything of note, and the costs of living keeps going progressively up as they sneak socialism lite onto us.
lucky country. pffft, the collapse is going to be far reaching and painful for this country
Isaac Nguyen
>Huge company with an office full of indian NPCs who do nothing but eat curry, browse facebook, and take up space Sounds like you work in Seattle or Bellevue. Those cities have an extremely disproportionately-high amount of pajeets
Carter Campbell
which one is it
Luis Russell
do what it takes. to lose your job user
Jose Ramirez
well if this is incel central, why are you here tranny?
Tyler Cooper
Hit the character limit but I’ll just yolo the rest real quick >been applying for software dev jobs, but they all reject me as my skills in anything other than solidity have completely gone cold since only ever did programming for school assignments >give up, start applying for generic hardware jobs again >2 weeks ago, recruiter shills a job at the SAME COMPANY I left previously (diff. location) >comically depressing, but still pays well so agree to interview >prepare seriously for it, do my best, think it goes extremely well >next day recruiter relays that the interviewer simply told her I seemed “distracted, disinterested in the job/company, like you didn’t want to be there” and thus, rejecc
I don’t even know at this point dudes. This must be what it feels like to be a nigger/felon or something.
I’m too poor to even afford to risk the gas driving to the nearest major city (2 hours away), especially if I can’t seem to even get a job in my field without fucking it up. What’s my course of action? Just get a min wagie job, and save enough for a security deposit so I can move to the city? That’s my current plan, have already applied at Sam’s Club and the grocery store.
I'm a dentist on the NHS, I get paid about 4x what doctors at the equivalent career stage get paid, while working only about 37 hours a week
Chase Jackson
I meant the gas part as in driving to the city for job interviews, not sure if I made that clear.
Jason Stewart
do what it takes not to.starve
Hunter Fisher
Thanks user, that’s the plan.
Jaxson Thomas
Atleast you earn more than you would in Brazil
Adrian Jones
I am in public sector IT work, is the private sector any better? I have hardly any work to do it's boring because it's not like we're allowed to dick around on the computers either.
Evan Harris
Absolute badass story tho. Could make a movie out of it You’re probably tougher and more hightest than majority of all the men in Japan so you totally deserve your dream waifu
Landon Walker
Move to San Francisco.
If you have a few years experience it is pretty easy to find software engineering jobs that pay $300,000 and up a year.
Levi Williams
Most people are underpaid. Especially some developers I know. But because they have no social skills they undersell themselves. The reality is people need to ask more.
Aiden Phillips
Are you speaking from experience or are you talking out of your arse
John Thomas
Hi, I am also in bay tech scene, $300K salaries are very uncommon unless you are superstar status. $300K total compensation package after stocks is more realistic, but that is still senior senior engineer status at a top company, like working at Google for 10 years. For a junior-mid guy like OP, $130K is about normal base salary at a decent company, hopefully you have some equity that is worth something as well (non startup). Too bad $130K in SF is not shit and you can't buy a house unless you get married to another engineer and are pulling in combined at least $250-$300K
Jose Watson
I'd rather have creative fulfillment but not be in poverty wat do
Owen Cook
That is a naive dream, you sound white "honey you can study whatever you want in college just follow your passion" lookin ass
Josiah Johnson
They're coming to Snoqualmie and then North Bend and were all going to fucking die PUGET SOUND IS A SINKING SHIP OF TAXES AND SUFFERING
Owen Rodriguez
this
Aiden Wilson
currently make $90k on W2 working from home as a front-end dev. work maybe 5 minutes to 1 hour per day. there are 2 or 3 times a year where I must work hard for a week or two but outside those times it's very easy.
Robert Flores
also don't ask me how to find the job, it was luck. i worked at some shit job i found on craigslist and one of my coworkers there quit to go back to his old agency and brought me with him.
Zachary Phillips
All you software developers/IT guys, did you go to school for your jobs? Or can you get by if you are self taught. If you are self taught what books/video’s do you recommend.
I’d love a job where i could work from home or fuck around in an office. But I can’t really find much information online, It’s like a hidden gem.
Charles Thompson
liberal arts degree from UC here, so yea very much self taught. i wasn't a film retard my whole life and just suddenly decided to learn other stuff though, i grew up playing with robotics and digital electronics stuff, and had computers and internet before anyone else i knew.
you need to both have some degree of passion and also an idea of a market to corner in order to make easy and/or good money at this stuff though. i'm really good at both design and development and so work in luxury real estate stuff where that has a lot of value vs. hiring designers + engineers + project management assholes to manage communication between the two teams. i would otherwise make tens of thousands less working at dumber companies working much harder.
as far as what to read -- there's stuff that's always been around and will continue to be around and then there's stuff that is worth a lot one day and not worth shit another. c/c++ and java for example are much broader and smarter languages than some of the horseshit trendy higher level languages/frameworks that are in vogue currently, but it's much harder to find jobs for the timeless stuff. i believe it builds a very strong foundation to know fundamental languages though rather than just learning high-level shit without knowing the layers below, but it's a matter of how committed you want to be to your learning.
Jose Long
>But I can’t really find much information online just claim disability
Robert Robinson
it's not that IT/software has all the cushy jobs
most white collar jobs are like this whether its finance, engineering, accounting or IT.
you just have to find the right company. usually really big ones with no oversight
on the question of a degree its highly recommend you get a degree from the best possible school in your area or from an ivy
