Can American lawyers redpill me on the prospects of this career path?
Can American lawyers redpill me on the prospects of this career path?
I just graduated law school and take the bar next month.
Don't do it. Learn to code or something useful. I remember when I was just starting law school (it was too late by that point), but I used to ask questions like yours and I'd always get the response, "Don't become a lawyer" and I thought it was a meme. It's not a meme.
Elaborate?
It really depends on which field of the law you want to specialize in. What lawyer to you makes the best money?
How well could you handle law internationally? Say if you want to setup a business in another country would you be confident to handle legal matters or say fuck need support from a lawyer from that place? Always wondered if you get a leg up as a lawyer or still are fucked unless you specialize into it.
>What lawyer to you makes the best money?
Those guys who own the massive personal injury firms
Don’t listen to this guy he’s not even a lawyer yet. Being a lawyer is insanely useful and pretty fun if you aren’t a bumbling retard
So the people whining on the internet are just the bottom 10% of the profession?
Unless you go to a top 10 school, it's not worth it
>t. dated a chick who went to Columbia law
>taking the winter bar
Good luck especially if you're taking the CA bar, otherwise GGEZ
>What lawyer to you makes the best money?
>wanting to become a lawyer for the money
There are other easier way of making money. Also fuck off we're full.
There are other considerations in "setting up a business" which includes relationship building. You will always need a local lawyer.
>Being a lawyer is insanely useful and pretty fun
>big law
>work 60-80 hour a week for $80k starting in CA
>work in cubicle and hardly interact with client (this might be a good thing)
>don't even have to go to court most of the time because court call is paid for by the firm
>smol law
>work flexible hours at $40k starting
>interact with all kinds of people (this might be a bad thing)
>get bonuses on yuge settlements; otherwise might potentially not get paid even
>have to cut on costs; usually have to drive to courts if mileage cost (at IRS rate) is not equal to or greater than court call cost (usually $90-110)
t.the latter
tl;dr don't fucking be a lawyer if your main goal is money; you'll run into problems and make problems for others
Are you america.?
Stop posting this ugly hoe bag
>Good luck especially if you're taking the CA bar, otherwise GGEZ
What do you mean by this?
So what should i do for the big bucks then? Hedge fund manager?
Let's ask the really important question: how do I get qt law gf
Historically, at least for California, the winter bar always has a lower passing rate compared to the summer bar. Also, the CA bar is now the hardest in the nation ever since NY switched to the UBE or some shit.
Literally anything else. Just do what you like and be good at it; money will just follow.
Whew lad, didn't realize Winter passing rates were lower than summer. Back to Themis I go.
It's not that much lower, maybe one digit difference but not more.
Also, Barbri>Themis
It's useful since you can work in other fields, but my coworker and her husband are practicing attorneys and she's saying the whole industry isn't what it used to be. The whole 3 strikes system of years past put a lot of pressure on people to hire the best private attorneys for any price, but since there's less pressure on the defendant nowdays due to laxer laws, people are more inclined to go with a public defender.
Not only are they having issues, but my dad's law buddies are having problems as well.
Pretty much the only guys doing well are the ambulance chasers. But this trend is why you're seeing so many aggressive ads nowdays
Why do people keep falling for the lawyer meme? Even. Angie Varona fell for it and she doesn't even have to do anything to make money
Public defender is only for criminal defense and that whole system is a shitshow. Plenty of other law on the civil side.
> Themis
Good luck m8.
>Why do people keep falling for the lawyer meme?
They think it's all glamor and passionate speeches thanks to TV.
protip: it's not
Lawyer is the biggest meme career. If the government got overthrown and replaced, there would be exactly 0 to show for your legal knowledge. You would be just another pajeet. Meanwhile doctors are always useful in every era and every country.
Plus reading court cases and regurgitating sentences to say to a judge seems like a pretty low hanging fruit for AI.
*sigh* I do not know the girl. But long time ago in 2002 I knewthat guy in the Atlanta club scene. Of course I'm way more important than him at this point but it feels weird. I'm curious about this story. Don't ask about who I am. I'm no millionair if you have to ask.
Oh shit. It was "Photognome" if he was on this thread remember who "ripebastard" was in the Atlanta scene.
>gubment gets somehow overthrown
>centuries of laws gets somehow totally replaced
>t. retard
Also I can't wait for AI to assist me in the menial stuff we have to train assistants for.
Those are just surface level skills friend
Not a lawyer, but an engineer.
Every field is full of morons. There is a small percentage of smart people or people with connections who climb to the top. Most are just drones for various reasons, either too dumb or don't want to put extra time because they'd rather spend time with family.
I have new grad friends with envirolaw degrees, 3 of them are barely scraping by making ~$50k/year
