they werent hacked. it was the owners that exit scammed. crypto was insolvent. only way to make money was to steal custoemrs cryptos. all the warning signs have been there for many months
The new zealand police and their cyber crime unit says otherwise.

stop making shit up.
>The inquiry is still in its very early stages and police are continuing to work with Cryptopia to establish what has happened and how.
>we can say that our focus includes commencing both a forensic digital investigation of the company, and a physical scene examination at the building.
>We are dealing with a complex situation and we are unable to put a timeframe on how long the investigation may take.
>It is too early for us to draw any conclusions and Police will keep an open mind on all possibilities
>Cryptopia are cooperating fully with the investigation team
in what way did they say that it could not be an exit scam? if anything it sounds like they're investigating them and don't want to give specifics. the fact they're "cooperating" doesn't mean shit
There is no possible way this is an exit scam. This is literally a case of the most vulnerable exchange with the most incompetent staff getting BTFO.
So firing half of their employees last week was random?
so naive
they fired 50% of their team a week ago, including the head of wallet development...it was an inside job sir, may vishnu ever be in your favour.
ps insider here
>There is no possible way this is an exit scam.
The state of bait
One question: if they exit scammed why in the fuck did they send funds to binance to get frozen? This is either the shittiest exit scam ever or the dumbest hacker(s) ever. Which is it?
it is probably an employee at shittopia that "hacked" it, some low IQ scrub that was working with the active wallets
but they safu
maybe even the girlfriend crypto digger of the boss
Yes

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
its always an inside job
Could be. I would expect them to get justed if they're this stupid tho. This reeks of incompetence.
You'd have to be a retard to report your own exit scam to the police.
This is not an exit scam and they did not "hack" themselves. If a rogue employee stole the funds that is much more akin to an outside hacker than the executive staff taking the money and running.
Personally I believe in the honesty of the people running the place. They may have been incompetent and they may have been lazy but I don't think they meant for this to happen. Remember the whole thing was started by a couple of young guys as a hobby and just blew up from there with the overall market.
The founders were in over their heads. In hindsight, they should have either sold out to somebody who knew what they were doing or they should have brought in a team of security and financial experts. Sadly it's too late for that now. Will we get our money back? Who knows. Probably not. For those of us at a loss right now, lesson learned. I want my fucking bitcoins but even more I actually enjoyed trading on Cryptopia. I liked the volatility of the hundreds of shitcoins and I made a lot more (and pulled it out!) than I lost so I'm not entirely unhappy.
All that, don't count this exchange out just yet. They could bounce back. It's not highly likely but think about this: the hackers didn't get anything but a bunch of imaginary internet tokens. They didn't get the real money Cryptopia uses for day to day operations. They could easily send everybody some condolence emails claiming "sfyl" and reopen the doors like nothing happened.
What happens next though? I guess we'll see but I doubt we've seen the last of the exchange from New Zealand.
ok Jow Forums lets play a hypothetical game. You are a leet haxor and you just hacked cryptopia. You have full access to tens of millions of dollars in shitcoins and erc20 tokens. What do you do after transferring them to wallets under your control? Are you going to immediately try to wash them into monero somehow? how exactly? would it be smarter to sit on the coins for years waiting for people to forget about the hack before you move them and cash out? but maybe 95% of your shitcoins would have gone to zero by then. or maybe they 100x in that time.
They involved the police. So what?
I wonder if anyone from law enforcement understands what blockchain is at all.
>even more I actually enjoyed trading on Cryptopia.
Same. It was actually the exchange I used for my first foray into true shitcoins last year. I'm disappointed it might be gone for good now. I lost a little bit of BTC by the looks of it but not enough to truly affect me.
Ironically the only reason I had any BTC there was because I offloaded what I had on BitMEX to Cryptopia to set up a shitcoin buy order since I was worried about getting my account locked. Fucking exchanges, what can you do.
