Going over and above at work

> Be me
> Low as heck on the totem pole
> Meeting next week, doesn't include me
> Lady I get along with is going
> Not my boss but someone I do have to take orders from
> Mention how the numbers have changed since she started
> Tell her I've ran the numbers before as my boss has questioned my workload and complained she had more, only for me to prove her wrong
> Asks if I can do it
> Already going over and beyond just pulling the numbers
> Could've just had the numbers plainly on a sheet
> Make it real nice instead, table and chart
> My bosses boss is also going whom that previous lady put in a good word for me
> One of the participants is going to make it obvious that my boss sucks at her job
> Hehe.jpg
> Hoping this works in finalizing sentiments from my unofficial boss to get me promoted
> Ahh shit my boss will be there too
> She loves taking advantage of me
> If she sees my report which above my paygrade, she'll probably try to get me to do it in the future
> Screw it I'm going for it and I'll refuse if she tries too
> If I get the right promotion she won't be my boss anymore

Biz how can this go wrong or is my plan good? Any fail safes I should take?

ITT the plight of the unnoticed and overqualified wage cuck

promotions are usually not this easy to grab. you're probably gonna get fucked.

>not my boss
>if I get the right promotion she won't be my boss anymore

You saying I should give a shitty version instead?

Plain white doc with numbers organized horrinly but legible?

i don't have any advice to give as far as climbing the ladder at work. i personally only ever put forth my best work and try to remain on good terms with everybody i work with. in my case (software developer), as long as I am getting better every year i don't care about the day to day office politics. i just try to hole up in a company for a couple years and develop before switching to another company that will pay me more.

Boss usually takes advantage of my which is why I'm acting cautious, that and they'll probably steal my idea and use it in the future.

i can't imagine that deliberately handing in lower quality work would aid you in any way 99% of the time, but then again, i've been working my face off for 7 years and just don't know how to operate any other way.

it seems short sighted to me to try and play ball here. i would look for ways to make yourself sizably more valuable than just knowing how to put together a decent excel sheet and graphs.

>be me, working at advanced materials startup
>founders fuck up royal and let the board take control and appoint new ceo
>he’s an absolute douchebag but I play well with him
>I do fuck all work
>within six months of new ceo starting, I now make more than the founder I report to
Not sure what the moral is tbqh

user the easiest way to get a promotion/raise is to quit and work somewhere else

i don't doubt that you're smarter than me. smart people do well usually.

only when you're still entry level. stable/comfy six-figure jobs (that aren't soul sucking sales shit) require networking.

Scary thing is, I don’t think I’m that smart. In fact, when people tell me I’m smart I tell them I’m a dumb fuck, but they don’t believe me and seem to think that I’m even smarter as a consequence. Life is weird.
t. a dumb fuck

casual success is as strong an indicator of intelligence, whatever that is, as i've ever seen.

sadly the source of my relatively modest success is unbelievable endurance

Nah grandpa, thats not how it works anymore. There is no gold watch anymore, there is no promoting from within.

bro just quit your job lol

sure, if you're shit. there's no gold watches but very good salaries in STEM for 30yo boomers like me. you're stuck in the mindset you need to monkey bar from company to company, but the truth is that only works for really shitty soul sucking jobs people don't want, even if it's high paying. the good jobs go to people who are known to be trusted.

> boss has questioned my workload
> complained she had more
> I've ran the numbers
> only for me to prove her wrong

Nice

I can't really understand your situation.
Avoid saying just 'he' and 'she' when who you're talking about isn't clear.

Inb4 you get fired for doing something thats not part of your job

promotions in 99% of workplaces aren't based on merit.

Op's boss is a woman and uses him. Woman 1

He also has an unofficial boss that is a woman and he is on good terms with.
Woman 2

His bosses boss is also a woman.
Woman 3

There is also another person attending the meeting.

> Woman 2 put in a good word for op to Woman 3
> Woman 3 could gove op a promotion to a position where Woman 1 will no longer be his boss.
> A fourth person will be attending the meeting who is going to talk about the performance of Woman 1.
> Op is afraid Woman 1 will see what he made and take advantage of him.

Have fun burning out for 2 years before anyone notices

Sounds risky op. Your boss will probably have you doing these for her in the future and similar and then present them as her own work.

You make it overly complicated so she is unable to answer any questions when asked. Then she will be forced to acquiesce to you, which will at least get you noticed by upper management. You just need to throw in something like "And then I calculated this _____ and created this _____ to show ________." to expose that you were the one that created the report in the first place.

Success without much attempt is actually indicative of intelligence. I have read in studies that the less you need to try the more your problem solving intelligence works.
