Do what vanguard does. After the trading session starts, is the price higher than last years? Then buy. After the trading session starts, is the price low than last years? Then sell. Only close positions by the end of the year. Another approach would be to check the prices against previous month and close by the end of the month. 10-20% yearly for the last 20 years, lowest being around 2% in 2007. It's the dumbest shit, but it works.
