what part of this is depressing? I work in an office similar than this and we get lots of work done

I used to work in a hip office like this. It felt like I was in a kindergarten classroom. We had a snack time and everything. The drones that stick around at these places have no dignity left.

>those computer lab tier desks
JUST

>sex swing installed in common area
only a matter of time till some intern is slammed on that swing after friday night drinks.

And yet somehow the claustrophobic enclosed wage cage is more appealing than the open office

dude-bro try hards who speak only in sales-y rhetoric, are constantly 'hustling' (AKA, trying, and failing, to make as much money as they can with doing the least amount of work possible).
They are constantly switching from garbage business idea to garbage business idea because none of them work out, and they all jerk each other off about each others' shitty ideas.

It got extremely old extremely quickly, luckily I was only there for a week while working remote. If you are renting space in these hipster-pandering places, stop, stop trying your shitty idea and get a real job. You will make infinitely more money that way.

lel

seriously though that's the whole point of interns

too autistic for anything but the cubicle lifestyle

I work at home 80% of the time. When I'm on-site though, my screen is directly visible from the CFO's office.

that sounds like hell. I guess you are probably super productive those days though?

I'm a die-hard introvert and I'd say my productivity actually goes down. Fortunately, I'm mostly at meetings when in the office.

I used to have a browser window in the bottom quarter of the screen where i could block it with my body in that situation

One of the partners at my firm directly faces my desk and everyone can see my desk as they walk by.

JUST.

How come these so called "innovative" tech companies don't go full bore with telecommuting to retain employees? If you need to speak with somebody use WebEx, emails and IMs instead of this forced open space bullshit.

Remote work is great, but people do take advantage of it, and some folks can't help themselves but jerk off all day when they're alone without accountability.
