Link could be responsible for bringing the derivatives markets to normalfags and not just investment bankers. This is how forex was in the 90s, then we got retail fx being traded on leverge.
Chainlink is perfect for this market because they are complex securities where there are several assets connected to each contract (usually groups of debt from loans). They also need to swap out assets between contracts to get different ratings (AA,. AAA, ect), so erc20 is great for keeping track of everything.

It's important to note that the derivatives implementation is likely going be rolling out very slowly, it's not like they will flip a switch and take over the global derivatives market. Sergey specifically stated that finance was an example of an industry where things move extremely slowly even though they will eventually have a much larger impact. However, many years from now you are right: we will see more and more outsiders participating in forex, independent quants working outside of gatekeeprs like goldman and blackrock.
