I have a bootstrapped startup with customers acroos north america. We have asoftware platform for assessing the satisfactoin of resident's at retirement homes. There is currently no standardization for measuring this and there's a push in several large jurisdictions to do so. I've been a sysadmin for a small hosting company for 3 years. The owner has been negligent as hell and I am going to take over everything. Current owner is cooperative with a takeover but the financial records are fucked, licensing is fucked, support structure is fucked, so I need to make a clean break with a new business name, new licensing agreements, everything. My reputation is plastered all over the service of about 250 users across 5 companies, and they are on hardware that has about four single points of failure ready to fuck everything up for everyone.

I am 28 and do not have the personal credit to secure a loan to replace what needs replacing.

The only barrier to getting this off the ground is the initial $40-50k hardware purchase. Clients are already there and I've been the sole sysadmin for the past 1 year so personnel is not a concern.

The business should be doing around $180k gross with costs around $100k right out of the gate, and that is factoring in a 3 year amort on the first $60k of hardware needs.

I feel like this is real small beans, but with a bit of steady growth it could be a great little nest egg for me to provide for my future instead of subcontracting forever.

I have a smaller project here, but I think it could be decently profitable. Theres an electronic rig called the Puffco Peak, and right now theres a huge market of people making custom attachments for it and then getting picked up by PuffCo as official products. My plan is to build a small silicone dab mat for it, with a wireless qi charger housed inside the mat to charge the Peak. I'd imagine the cost of materials would come to somewhere around $30-$50 in materials, but it could be sold for $200 because the dab scene is ridiculously easy to sell expensive stuff to.

Thess things are fantastic devices, but they constantly run out of battery. I guarantee the product would have a market. I think theres a really good chance of this final product getting picked up and sold by the company, its just a matter of putting the first couple units together. Would only need $3-5k pending, and the sky's the limit from there. Overpriced devices need some overpriced peripherals, right?

I started very late in the season (late may) and had a turnover of £45k. Loss of ~5k due to repayments on £30k of machinery, which i now own in full.

Expected turnover for year 2 is ~60k from the single van, with profits of around ~15k.

The expansion is due to my second license being in an area with a much larger footfall. Realistic turnover from van no.2 would be ~100k for a total of 160k and a profit of ~40k. The key is that the machinery is only used for 3 hours a day so it is very inefficient currently to only have only the 1 truck.

The shop would bring in an extra ~100k turnover a year as an extra outlet and ~25k profit.

But if it does work, one will be able to undercut current cloud computing services if they own the patent. A road traffic management/control system that utilizes sensors and visual markers embedded into the roadway. Traffic patterns move in waves, and these waves ripple down the roadway for miles, eventually building up into a traffic jam. I believe that a system could be created that variably adjusts the speed of cars as they travel down the highway. This dynamic control of road speeds could be utilized to manipulate the flow of the waves and cancel out the buildups that creates traffic jams.

Please refer to this post, Transportation infrastructure is an interesting target. I don't think I've come across any startups trying to tackle those issues. I know a lot has already been done by cities here in Norway to relieve traffic congestion, implementing greenlight waves. My issue with technology in this sector is that is has to be extremely robust; low to 0% failure and near 100% up time.

Ideas are dime a dozen. Moving forward and executing is the challenge.

There is a preexisting concept called Aquaponics, Its where you have fish in a tank & to clean the fish water you use hydroponics system to let the plant roots clean the water. Effectively creating a somewhat closed loop system. You have to feed the fish of course.
