>Working as an meme biz analyst >Get paid like shit (50K, for example he makes 200K easy) >Get fed up and ask for a raise, figured I could ask for 70K and go down from there. >Do this and manager get defensive and I see tears forming >Try to calmly explain that people at my level in the company make 70 + >He starts sobbing telling me how he can't do his job with out me doing most of the work and that he can't actually give me a raise because of budget cuts > Starts really crying now (like boogers in shit), telling me how he thinks his wife is cheating on him, which is kind of fucked up since they have young kids >After telling me how his wife is on a girls trip to New York, he hugs me and goes back to work. >I completely forget about the raise and stare at my computer until 5 and leave
I know I have to leave the company, but should I even show up on Monday? I'm honestly terrified about work right now.
Your boss is either unstable or extremely manipulative. Send him an email that gives a fair ultimatum. Ask for your actual desired salary and clearly give a date that you will quit if your conditions aren’t met. He doesn’t have an opportunity to inject his personal life into your business relationship this way.
Angel Turner
crying had nothing to do with you asking a raise though, you just happened to asked on a shit time for him.
Be grateful of the sincerity your boss gave you. I've waited 4-5 years before moving. Was fed bullshit promises the entire time and worked loyally like a mule.
Dominic Phillips
Two ways to go about it.
1. He hugged you without permission. That is harrassment and you can't work in that toxic environment anymore. Big gibs.
2. Tell him Monday morning $65K or you are leaving now. If he starts to cry, start to leave. At $200K, if he needs you bad enough, he will make it work.
Not your problem buddy, he should have paid you what you're worth & fucked his wife better. Godspeed user & think of how much you can cash in for if he does belt you.

I make shit, the average salary of my co-workers is mid 30k. I meanwhile don't even make 30k yet I do several diff jobs. Explained situation to my manager. Did it in a nice, non asshole, non suck up manner. Pointed out that two other people in our dept went from mid 20's to over 35k without much hassle or blow back from our manger's boss's and bean counters.
He said he'd look into getting me a raise. At this point I've done all I can do. If nothing happens I'll start looking for another job. They will have given me the perfect exit reason.
For op, just quit- place seems toxic af if you do most of the work and your superior admits it.
Dominic Morris
If he can't do his job without you doing yours, then you should demand a fresh $100 each & every workday directly from his wallet; otherwise, he loses his job after you quit. >your boss just told you that you are indispensable to your company; use this leverage
John Brooks
Holy shit kek

Loyality is very important. Maybe this is just a test? Ask in a few months again and look for a new job with a better payment.

Slightly sour and very arrousing. The fun part is squeezing that plum between your thumb and index.

>brapper >bait story Here comes 300 brainlet advice replies

>extremely manipulative most likely this. find out WHO is above this guy and talk to them, they may find out that person does squat while you most likely could cover without him.
The thought of the raise may raise flags as he would then need to write up the request above, thus exposing his inabilities of why he is even there.
Better to gtfo asap, even he will get 70k it’s still not enough to take care of all the workload aaaaaand be his psychologist (hey, he open up, it’s over, run Forrest, gtfoooooooo)
Julian Jones
Jeezzz all the "say your going to quit replies". Protip, as soon as you say your not getting enough and you are going to quit. They will give you the raise and look for a person who can on short term replace you. Also you killed every promotion position in the future since your considered " not loyal". This is a short term strategy, fine if your someone who isn't afraid to find an other job.
Better you list the things that makes you valuable (I brought X amount of declarable hours etc.) to them and tell you want a raise based on this succes.
Regarding your specific situation send the guy an e-mail. Say you are sorry about the private situation he is in and hope to get things on track (paper trail for his emotional meltdown). Ask him why he can't promote you. This opens the steps to get the promotion.
For example - no budget -> tell them you want to pitch to sr. Management - HR won't allow -> schedule a meeting with HR (there is always a loophole for high potentials) Etc.
Take a few sick days if you have them, update the resume and start looking
Jonathan Rivera
>200k He is not the CEO, he his just a trusted and very obidient brainlet working for 10 years in the same company, he cannot decide promotions alone, and he don’t want to disturb his superiors cause deep inside he already feel guilty and useless (but still dream for 250k).

T. Boomer retard In this world you have to stick up for yourself because the people in power have no reservations to abuse you if they can
Liam Scott
OP, don't get me wrong but anyone can be replaced, that includes you. What he meant was "I can't do this job without you (because I am underpaying you)" It's time to give him an ultimatum in the form of "I strongly believe I deserve a raise due to...etc...if not, I will have to reconsider my options"
