After getting bachelors and masters degrees in physics and engineering, I did a verified IQ test by a psychologist and got a low IQ score around 98. How the fuck do I get a job now knowing that I can NEVER get a decent job with a low IQ? I am completely overqualified on paper, so that rules me out of most jobs because they'll think I am so smart that I'll get "bored", when really I would do well in a menial mcjob or warehouse assistant role...

Go become a Woodlands firefighter.
Become a k-12 teacher. Easy as shit.
I have an IQ in the high 120s and I was denied the opportunity to become an engineer. And they wasted it on you. Yep our society is doomed, and good riddance.
Engineering is a shitty way to make a living. The pay doesn't match the hours and stress you are subjected to.
I call bullshit. This seems more like liberal cope.
A satirical post about how IQ means nothing and real world accomplishment is all that matters. Completely disregarding the fact that IQ so far has been the best (not perfect) indicator of academic success.
GTFO with your low key shilling.
Why are you waiting for permission if you are so smart? Just develop shit.
Keek
I've come to realize that it's probably a good thing for me that I didn't become one. It's still bad for society that our advanced professions are occupied by idiots. I'll have a better life now and the world at large can go fuck itself. I become more vindicated with every passing year.
First, I don't think the normies deserve it. Second, I don't want to deal with regulations and patents and all of that legal garbage. I'm just going to enjoy my life, find a wife and raise a family.
146 IQ with medical degree and residency in surgery reporting in.
OP your country has fucked up educational system for letting brainlets be able to get physics degrees. But most likely you are just larping. In which case you are a faggot.
We are going to start seeing building built dangerously wrong. Good thing I'll be living in the country away from the skyscrapers, and minorities.
See
It is totally possible that some libtarded country where everyone is always a winner and nobody can ever be a loser because we are all the same... and all that equality of outcome BS... would allow for such faggotry through some affirmitive action clusterfuck policy
>First, I don't think the normies deserve it.
You are hurting noone except yourself. Show, don't tell. Get involved in open source and enroll in some open course work.
I have been in the field and have never dealt with legal bullshit. CS needs people like you and I understand how retarded the gatekeepers can be.
Take a machine learning course, at the very least.
You can do it user, you don't need a useless career counselor giving you permission.
Perhaps. You said you were a surgeon have you dealt with Nigerian or Kenyan "surgeons" who are for the most part butchers who claim to be educated?
They are the worst and I have to deal with them a lot and the hospital boards don't reprimand them they just move them to another hospital even after the biggest fuck ups for diversity points.
HAHAHAHAHA
this nigga is so butthurt
this is not true.
If it were, there wouldn't be a teacher shortage, and a huge drop of college students enrolling in education degrees.
This is a meme. Do not EVER step foot into education, or else people would be lining up to get their $40k/year gibs,
I'll consider it if I can do things on my own terms and make decent money.
Sometimes people are butthurt, and sometimes there is a good reason.
>I have an IQ in the high 120s and I was denied the opportunity to become an engineer.
Denied how? You just have to apply to any engineering college. Holy shit you are dumber than me
Pretty shitty thing to say when all IQ allows you to do is comprehend at a faster pace but if OP was able to obtain a masters, then it means he put in the extra studying time to comprehend as if he had 120+ iQ
>this is not true.
Yes it is. Easy as shit. Just regurgitating basic info that isn't hard to master
>If it were, there wouldn't be a teacher shortage
Teacher shortage is a good thing. It means it's easier to get the job.
>and a huge drop of college students enrolling in education degrees.
You're speculating their reasoning.
>This is a meme. Do not EVER step foot into education, or else people would be lining up to get their $40k/year gibs
It is easy. If you had actual experience with jobs, you would see teaching is the easiest middle class profession in the world.
No micromanagement like with other jobs, no need to learn complex material like an electrician or some cs guy would have to, not fast pace like some general labor job, all for middle class wages.
It is EXTREMELY easy which is why I'm pursuing this. If you had other jobs, you would agree.
I really don't have to prove anything to you. Not everyone's life is like yours, you normie.
Lol... when I graduated highschool, I was accepted for environmental engineering at ucr. How the fuck did you fuck up so badly?
I fucked up too in life by changing majors a lot but I mean it's not that hard to get accepted as long as you didn't perform shitty in highschool. You sure you have 120IQ?
Go for PhD and teach.
I barely graduated high school because it was a jail sentence. Ended up getting 4.0 in CS courses and a good career. I got rejected from my first two school choices.
High school was not about enablement for me. It was a trap that I barely escaped.
holy shit, same regurgitated bullshit from someone who either only taught at one small school, or the basic fuck that never step foot into a school to dealt with kids-- ever.
The only schools worth teaching at are white rural and some (only some) suburban schools.
The rest suck. The shortage is due to burn out. Are you in education?
If not, then you're the same idiots who think the job is easy, but never taught before.
If you are, you must be a really terrible teacher.
I was going to insult you but those time digits are too good. Congrats!
Very bad childhood and no guidance.
you're going to be in for a real rude awakening.
Already was with the real world. Teaching is nowhere near as fast pace, skillful, nor demanding in ANY sort of way compared to your typical job working under some jew. No micromanagement up the ass. Actual middle class wages. BASIC material that isn't hard to master.
In terms of working, this is THE most chill job of ALL middle class jobs.
Get butthurt all you want. It's the truth. Name me ONE other middle class job that is easier than teaching. I'll wait.
i like your posts and i can empathize.
>First, I don't think the normies deserve it
they dont, but maybe at the core of this sentiment theres a sense of rejection, and a desire to contribute to society. what do you think?
>I'm just going to enjoy my life, find a wife and raise a family.
do you think you will have a lingering sense that you havent realized your potential?
psst, I have a sister who is a teacher and I'm turning down 3x her salary because it doesn't pay enough. Go CS or cry.
that only depends on the rare good schools.
As far as the corporate life is concerned, I am not going to argue you with that as it has truth.
But you're rolling the dice with education if you don't end up at a good school. At demanding schools, the kids will drain you hard, and your efforts to meet test scores will not be appreciated.
Best of luck to you:
If you quit after 5 years due to burn out...i will just say now, I told you so, and you will be part of the bell curve.
If you don't make it past 3, you sucked as a teacher or work at a very shitty school.
If you make it past 5, you're probably employed at a good school, where the kids do not drain you, and you could then really focus on being a teacher.
I still think you are overly generalizing the good aspects of teaching, but if you feel you need to be dedicated, you'll be working 10-12 hour days. And your summers will only be used from decompressing, only counting down the days until you need to work again while the time off you just spend being miserable.
Florida has already had bridges collapsed which were designed by women.
You might be right. I am always working on self knowledge and it's obvious to me that I'm bitter and feel rejected. I am working on accomplishing other things to get past some of it but maybe I will contribute to CS like the other user was talking about. That might be the best vindication. What about you, what's your story?
Dude, I'm not falling for the stem meme. Pays well but the stress levels would be too much for me. I'd prefer making 70k cap then 3x that and hating my life.
Take a machine learning course at least user. Schools are going to become public day cares. Then they will go away. It's already happening.
Have you read ready player one?
8 hrs teaching. The rest just grading basic stuff. Easy work. And the same curriculum can be repeated for years. Very repetitive work. Routine based.
>while the time off you just spend being miserable.
More vacation, the better. Your typical job would leave you more mentally exhausted.
Didn't know that but not surprised. That's just the beginning.
>Schools are going to become public day cares. Then they will go away.
Doubt it, but either way, I have a background with another field that can't be automated so I could always go back to that. I just don't like it.
>Have you read ready player one?
Never heard of it
>muh IQ
Caring about this shit is for losers with no accomplishments m8
lol, this has to be a troll thread by a salty soft science/biology major.
the academic system rewards those who not only have the brains but TRY. what good is a "lazy but supposedly smart" scientist/engineer? the ability to get shit done is also an important trait to screen for.
hint: More IQ tests you take, the better the IQ test score.
Please read it, it speaks of a future where children can learn from the best in a VR world without ever leaving their home.
My sister is miserable and hates her job intensely. Summers are so mind numbingly solitary and school season is 12 hour days without end.
I hate to see anons get caught in that trap when CS needs so much help.
im a memecoiner dropout that burned bridges 2 years ago. now im looking to reenter society in a meaningful way instead of watching charts, but im not sure how to do it with my current resume.
I hope you reach a sense of fulfillment user. you deserve it.
Thank you, so do you.
I've had the same job for two and a half years but I hear that employers are caring less and less about resumes and work references and more about you being able to demonstrate your knowledge and skills. Is there any truth to that?
was it some no-name uni in city with population < 1 million? yes? it doesn't really matter, there is not that much jobs strictly for physicists to begin with, you can:
- become a high school teacher (if you complete additional teaching training)
- stay at the uni helping other people complete their research and teaching students,
- get hired by some gov funded research agency to do ground work.
- try to get entry level software related job.
- apply for jobs with generic stem requirements like analyst,
more than a third of those that did not drop out had a second degree, specialized certification or other backup plan going for them...
you should have gotten a clue when that guy from administration was boasting how 'our graduates work in the [big local] bank as IT specialists!' right a the beginning
sure there was that one person that got to CERN, couple guys who went to have successful careers abroad and this one crzy fellow who worked on innovative tech from the moment he got admitted... but none of them waited with doing great stuff up until finishing a degree...
t. phys dropout
>Is there any truth to that?
I got my only real job that way. i had a good track record then but i was mostly hired fast for learning about the job before the interview more than the other applicants. Maybe that could work again even with a resume gap
Sounds like it might, it's worth a try. Good luck.
Yeah fuck that. They don't count. I am EU based. Trust me where I come from only 5% top IQs even get accepted into medical school. Various engineering degrees is a bit easier to get in, but it is a massive bitchload to actually obtain it. Our educational system is in place to torture you, not give you safe spaces and nonbinary toilets.
>t. Never been in education
Enjoy having the job security of a 1099, no pension, and low pay. Did I mention your job will depend on subjective observations from administration? How about the fact that kids can not get suspend unless they’re dealing coke or something similar? Enjoy the verbal abuse, just don’t talk back or you’ll get fired.
Did you take a certified IQ exam? I'm sure you would score around 85-95. An actual 125-130 IQ person would never say or even think that they are being "denied" the opportunity to do something
Kek I'm in a similar boat; I've got a masters degree in engineering but the field is absolutely dead where I am and I've been a NEET for over a year so it doesn't matter anymore. Unfortunately the era of jobs for "credentialed but inexperienced" people ended decades ago, so it's been looking pretty bleak.
Jow Forums users should be forced to take a certified IQ test before being able to post.
the fact that he got a master in physics with a double digit IQ just shows how screwed the system is
ok he might just fucked up the test, but he really is such a dumb fuck then the whole system failed not OP. OP actually won himself a degree.
>masters degrees in physics
That guarantees you actually have a minimum 120 iq fyi. You probably just choked on the iq test. It happens. Best measure of iq will always be measured by completion of appropriate degree of schooling assuming no cheating/dick sucking
Just apply and go to the interview. Don't mention your IQ score anywhere. They'll decide if they want to hire you or not. If they decide not to hire you, keep trying. Read some Mathematical Logic textbooks (get them at gen.lib.rus.ec), play some brain-enhancing games such as brainworkshop.sourceforge.net , try again.
Kek. Get a real job and you'll see how easy it is in comparison. The trade offs are worth it. They also make over 70k on average in california and start at 40k.
Yeah sure, a smart person never has any problems or complaints. They just go through life with nothing going wrong and if there is a problem they always recognize that it is their own fault. Always, because it always is. You know smart people are the luckiest people on the plant and if anything happens it was just them shooting themselves in the foot. Their parents are smart too and never make mistakes and they just have a prefect upbringing and education. And a prefect life.
Do you know how stupid you are?
It is surprisingly easy to "fail upwards" through academia. Just do a shitty undergrad program and barely get enough marks to pass, find a professor to do some research with during the summers and stick with him, and if you're not brain-dead retarded you should have picked up enough for that professor to ask you to do a masters degree project with him. The bottom threshold for Masters-level research is extremely low since you don't need to produce anything "novel", so just follow instructions until you have enough data for a thesis.
>"fail upwards" through a masters in physics
Do you brainlets even stop to think about whether what you're typing makes any sense
This. Op is actually high IQ and just did poorly on the test. Lol at the cope in this thread though
>Muh institutions
>Muh america
Fuck off my board brainlets
I managed just that for a masters in engineering. Labwork-heavy STEM fields are ideal for this since whatever happens you still produce data.
You might be right about smart people not living perfect lives or having the right to complain about stuff from time to time. However, your original post sounds more like you are whining about something you have complete control over i.e become an engineer
128 iq here
Being able to learn quickly doesn't make you successful nor being "denied" of some bachelors degree makes you unsuccessful.
Best advice I can give you is don't overthink it. People are stupid, making money off of stupidity is quite easy.
>70k in California
Which is like making 40k in a normal col.
>Go compare to other jobs
IT is cushy if you don’t chase the money
he's right though. your personal standards arent shared by everyone.
The beauty of this is that I don't have to prove anything to you. Enjoy your life.
>Best advice I can give you is don't overthink it. People are stupid, making money off of stupidity is quite easy.
That perspective is quite helpful actually.
Newton went broke in the tulip bubble
so there might be no correlation between iq and gains
>No, he must have had a 95 IQ. I mean it doesn't sound like he is a smart person. :DDDD
Brainlets can't understand.
>tulip bubble
It was the South Sea Bubble.
>I managed just that
And I'm the president of america so whatever bullshit I spew on the internet is 100% fact. Fucking brainlet
Iq correlates somewhat well at lower level schooling especially like elementary and high school. Over time however personality type tends to take over totally and high achievers who spend much time, and who have discipline on school perform best. Ironically these vicious studers people have been on average have lower iqs than average performing students
Congrats OP. I'd be much prouder getting a decent degree with a lower IQ than 130+.. However, you do realize that 98 isn't actually BAD right? It's pretty much dead on average? Someone high IQ will probably pick up a job quicker than you, but if it's high repetition they won't actually perform it significantly better after a certain time frame (unless it involves a high amount of abstraction).
KEK do you actually think you'll be revolutionizing things with 120? You sound like that kid who's mom told them they were smart and special so you feel superior while you are in practice mediocre.
Mm I don't think you know what you're talking about. Tested with 143 overall IQ at age 16 using the most recent WAIS. Did honors in school, at best. Mostly honors in college but some C's and D's.
No I don't think I am revolutionary but I do think I could help keep bridges from collapsing.
Why are you talking about patents and "normies don't deserve it" shit then. Just admit that you're not to the level of inventing significant shit.
Also, how the fuck do you not get into engineering with 120 IQ. That must mean you really suck in some other areas.
You can overcome low iq by studying harder in school. I’m sure you know people who don’t understand concepts the first couple times it is taught to them, but they put in hours of work and get good grades. I don’t know what the limits to this and I don’t think it works with sub 90 iq.
Normies don't deserve to have competent people working on their technology if they are going to create such a horrendous society.
>how the fuck do you not get into engineering with 120 IQ
I'm not going to tell you my life history dude.
Also, >high 120s
Why am I arguing with someone who can barely read?
If it's a low abstraction feild, people with high iq learn quicker but don't actually perform that much better after a certain time (most trades). If it's a high abstraction feild IQ actually matters.
he's allowed to cry? that cant be good for morale.
Even then your work ethic and discipline matter more. How will your iq help you stand out when your peers are equally as talented?
If true you could still be an engineer if you stopped being a little bitch about it. I don’t care what your situation or history is.
But I doubt you took a legit IQ test. The hardest trait to fake is intelligence, and I would put you at about a 105 with strong aspergers traits and a lot of pent up rage.
It doesn’t. IQ is a meme metric except for tail ends desu. Other factors such as work ethic and personality play almost equally important roles when determining professional success.
40k/year in your shithole maybe.
it's easy and it's not, mostly depends what age your students are really. high school gets annoying because your workload increases and they're all edgy teenagers.
Compared to that, Kindergarten is easy as piss but then you're dealing with the kid's parents on a twice-daily basis.
The kino age to teach is around Grade 3~5.
>no need to learn complex material
Someone's never taught algebra/calculus in grades 6~12 before
This guy knows what's up. Also you get massive pay benefits for working in rural schools, free car, bonuses for living in a remote area etc. Not to mention you get "promotion" points faster, meaning you can choose your dream location/job in the field years and years sooner than some citycuck.
>No micromanagement up the ass. BASIC material that isn't hard to master.
No micromanagement?? HAHAHAHA that's fucking hilarious.
Even if you're an elementary school teacher with only the same class of kids every day, you have to micromanage all 40 of those little shits. Marking homework. Planning lessons, making sure you meet the curriculum, changing your plan or lesson based on certain factors, dealing with "monster parents".
Not to mention you can lose 10min of the lesson from the smallest distraction, like an insect/bird flying into the classroom, a fight, incident or even just something happening outside. Suddenly you and your kids are 10min behind in the weeks/month's/semester's material and you gotta somehow make that time back up.
>nowhere near as skillful
if you're a lazy, mouthbreathing teacher that just copy-pastes the same lessons every year, not caring about constantly changing curriculum and the like then sure.
Office monkeys and Code monkeys are lazier though. Literally just sit in a cubical and procrastinate replying to emails.
Sounds like you're an American, in which case I feel sorry for you and your country's sub-par education system.
>After getting bachelors and masters degrees in physics and engineering, I did a verified IQ test by a psychologist and got a low IQ score around 98
No you didn't. Stop lying you sack of crap. There's no way you passed those degrees with average intelligence unless from a degree mill.
I know so many stupid people that got through good STEM programs. You don't have to be smart for that. You don't have to be smarter than for any other college degree actually. Fuck off losers.
I was a teacher for several grade levels, it is not easy. You'll get burned out pretty fast and just become another shitty teacher unless you absolutely love it. Anyone going into teaching because it's "easy" is guaranteed to be a shit teacher, they do the most low effort worksheets and not even engage the students. I've seen too many like that.
.
120 is the same as 129 in terms of performance dude. You really think I'm going to care about 9 or so points when you'd need at least 140+ to make cool shit?
Just improve society then? It's breddy great for me
You're so salty, engineering fields have plenty of competent workers and society doesn't miss your 129 IQ. How did you get "denied the opportunity" to enter the field? You didn't get into any ABET school? Go to a community college for 2 years then transfer to a state university, should be a breeze to keep your grades up if you're as smart as you think you are.
This guy gets it. ML is commoditised now. It used to be good when none is doing back in 2011. Now that everyone has a pet project in TensorFlow and DeepLearningNet, you are fucked. Moreover your average corporation doesn’t need that cutting edge stuff and even if they need it will be deliver by vendor modules such as SAS etc. If you are smart you should leave when normies getting on that thing just like a stock - sell when everyone of FOMOing.
t. Master of Statistics
You larp because I refuse to believe a 146IQ person could be so bluepilled. Maybe you lived a sheltered life until adulthood, good for you.
IQ is a meme. You either have skills or do not. IQ is only good at determining whether you are retarded and is a useless tool for predicting at 100+.
I'm like 130-140 and can't even pass Calc 1
This.
t. graveyard shift engineer
this
in retrospect I'd rather be a manager at a grocery store
IQ is a fucking meme. Take magnesium, acetylcholine, iodine and eat healthy, do some calisthenics and read a book or two every month (helps memory and processing speed). Simple.
calc 1 is a bunch of memorization bullshit. people should only learn concepts like derivatives and integrals, and work through a couple example calculations but computers can literally do all of the calculations for us and unless you're a math major then who tf cares?? math courses are so useless.
