>normie coworker turned down a raise because he said it would “bump him into the next tax bracket and he’d get to keep less money than with his current wage”
Normie coworker turned down a raise because he said it would “bump him into the next tax bracket and he’d get to...
what's wrong with that?
Couldn't he have negotiated another benefit, like having to work less, being more flexible with coming in, have the company cover his cafeteria costs, get a company car, get a laptop?
That's not how it works
Because that’s not how it works. Not all of his income is taxed at the next bracket so he’d still pocket more money with a higher wage, tried explaining that to him and he wouldn’t believe me
Lol
They could have written it off as a corporate expense like an allowance or a christmas party.
WHAT AN IDIOT
That's not how tax brackets work. He would be taxed at a higher rate on the amount of additional money he made outside of his current bracket.
He would have made more money.
What an brainlet
>company doesn't cover your cafeteria cost
What kind of shitty company do you work at. You don't get money for transportation to work either?
Not everyone works in Silicon Valley, which is the only place I can imagine that's a regular thing.
are you sure?
Company paying a fixed ammount for your lunch is a pretty regular thing, where do you work at?
LOL wow
You must live a charmed little life.
normies say this shit all the time and you can't tell them they're wrong because another will jump in to defend them
>normie coworker
>coworker
That’s makes you a normie too
That is not how it works, your salary isn’t the tax rate times your entire salary it’s taxed on per dollar.
For example let’s say you make $150
10%rate up to $100 = $10
12% rate up to 150 = $6 because you already paid tax on that first $100 so you only have to pay tax on that second $50 after the lower rate
T.tax accountant
Yes I'm sure that would be ducking retarded
The absolute state of americans
Where the fuck do you work where they cover your commute costs
Marginal tax
>tfw no cafeteria
>tw not even a vending machine
>tfw meal breaks only if "workload permits"
Good lord. This is why schools need to teach more practical things in school.
It doesn't suddenly move your entire salary to the next bracket - only the amount you earn over the cut off
Literally anywhere in yurop.
Sorry
Normies are so fucking retarded. I'm convinced that in spite of all the "what I'd do with a billion dollars" talk, they all actively choose to be poor.
I've worked as a software developer in various companies for 8 years and have never had this. I also pay for my metro costs.
>normie friend didn't buy coinmetro chad exchange
i find it sad you have to distinguish yourself as a tax accountant because the average american is so financially illiterate that they might be intimidated otherwise learning what marginal taxes are on their own
Here it's like this, from most common to less common:
-they pay for lunch because they have no cafeteria
-they pay for lunch, or you can eat in the cafeteria
-they don't pay for lunch but you can eat in the cafeteria for free
Also, it's common for companies to pay for the commute, public or private. Unless you're a student.
I'm a government consultant, that might be why. Still, even the govt employees I work with don't get any of those perks
Outside of the US?
Nope, actually Washington DC
Burger here, born and raised.
This is not, has not been, and will never be a thing here in the states. We buy our own lunches, provide our own transportation and in a lot of cases, people won't even take sick days because they're afraid of losing the few decent jobs left to immigrant labor.
Our unions are extremely weak and our businesses are extremely strong, with no need whatsoever to negotiate with the labor. They can go anywhere in the world and get a replacement for you. Why would they have to feed you lunch if they have no interest in you staying?
Here’s a (you) as a thank you desu
Now I understand why the wages are higher in the US.
Lmao typical boomer thought. You only get taxed on x amount over the tax bracket so this rationale is retarded. Idiots at my old job would say that all the time.
The wages for the senior workers are higher, anyway. We're kind of in this weird limbo in the states right now, because the boomers that are getting ready to retire negotiated away all of our workers' rights in exchange for retirement.
Basically, 65 rolled around and all of the companies on the hook realized that paying out retirement would immediately bankrupt the system, and the unions hit upon a novel concept. Retirement, Pensions, Benefits, and everything else gets kept, but none of those things will ever be offered to any new workers ever again.
So the boomers get to keep their retirement, but now we have this wide gap in every skilled labor job, where the people who have been there 30 years still make $60 an hour and have stock options, but all new workers will take minimum wage without benefits or a pension to do the same job, and there won't ever be any slots above minimum wage again.
That’s the whole point of this thread to point out how retarded this normie is. Read the posts above it’s been explained six times over already
Congratulations, you have a rational co-worker.
