Is it possible to buy a working used car for $1200?
Is it possible to buy a working used car for $1200?
Yes. Cash for clunkers really did a number on cheap cars unfortunately. But there still are some
yes, but if you don'/t know anything about cars you will probably get screwed.
yeah, but it takes alot of searching. Be aware of failing transmissions. Test drive everything and if you can, get a mechanic to check it out before handing over your cash.
if you dont know any, just go to a shop and offer one of em some cash. im sure they wouldnt mind.
I’ve bought multiple cars for $1000 or less on Craigslist. Got a $500 ‘96 ranger 4x4 that ran but needed a head gasket. Ended up being a phenomenal truck and I drive it to 340k mikes before selling it for $400. Bought a $1000 mk3 Supra that was surprisingly clean and ran awesome. Bought a nice Samurai for $1400.
This was in the SF Bay Area.
>the already shrinking e36 chassis is shrinking even more
I love old mercs and bimmers . Shits unfortunate. I'm gonna have to buy a couple and just store them for my future. I miss my 318 so much. I'm always getting hit on by old ladies
100%, you just need to look at local classifieds and be quick if you see a good deal.
I bought a used Mazda 3 with 250K for $500 almost year ago, it was so cheap because it's a manual but that's a plus for me. Pic related.
I haven't had any issues with it yet and runs better than my brother's piece shit 2014 Hyundai.
Just get something Japanese that isn't Nissan.
Where you located OP?
I’ve got some free time. Im a mechanic and I’ll help you search Craigslist
This.
Mazda is almost as reliable as Toyota but not overpriced like used Toyotas/Hondas.
hey man, sorry just saw this hope u are still around. I'm in the Chicago area.
Got a 1990 Toyota Corolla for $400, I did a road trip across western Canada with it, great car. Over the 2 years I used it I only had to change light bulbs, the water pump belt, the battery and the tires. The parts on this kind of car are really cheap so it's cheap to fix.
you would probably want to stick to manual transmission cars if your looking for one that old
Search for old people selling their cars.
Chances are they drove very short, in town distances.
Also manual transmissions only.
Slushboxes on 1000 dollar cars wont last long.
Look for final year models on used cars.
Less likely to break down as the final build worked out most of the kinks.
If you take your time you can find something in your price range.
Also ask your family and friends if they know anyone. That can yield much better results than just craigslist.
car auction houses the way to go you can find something cheap/decent in a salvage auction
Do the Hyundai Excel and Mitsubishi Mirage not exist in your country?
what does this have to do with anything?
They're $500 and literally unkillable.
You wouldn’t believe what you can get in the UK for £1500. We’re spoilt for choice.
If u live in states find a mexican who took care of his toyota
link me where I can find these cars for $500 u make it sound so easy
im in Chicago so tons of Mexicans around here haha ill look around
Gumtree, Facebook, usedcarsales (in Australia).
Bangernomics. Look it up. Buy German with good history. Don't spend more than $1000 per car. Ditch them once the costs of repairs aren't worth it.
The used car market is the best bang for your buck in history right now.
Cars are a liability for people that can't store them. I was literally given an E30 323i BMW and after about $200 in repairs I had a perfectly reliable car. I sold it 12 months later for $2700. It's probably worth $4K now because the E30 bmw is a meme.
The sweet spot for ultra cheap cars now is late 90s/mid 00s. Stay away from the terrible American shit from the late 90s and early 00s.
Basically, if a car doesn't blow smoke when the engine is cold, it doesn't leak oil or coolant and is capable of moving under it's own power for 20 minutes or so without boiling or the tranmission fucking up, it's probably good enough to drive from NYC to LA with some minor maintenance.
Yeah, go for Golf 2 or Golf 3.
at a retail store, almost certainly not. If it does run, it's going to be rough as a cob.
Person to person, you probably can, but I don't deal in that market.
You best know what to look for in that scenario. If you're looking for a cheap car that runs you need to have the knowledge to know what problems can be present in the vehicles at that price range. For me personally, it's not worth it to buy anything that's aged past a certain point because it's not worth my time or money to learn what to look for.
Even $5,000 cherries are rare now.
Unless you're in a bind and are having trouble increasing your income it's best to get CPO vehicles and trade when you're on the brink of the CPO warranty expiring. CPO luxury vehicles with big bumper to bumper warranties are the best.
Buick, Lexus (the two best, IMO), lnfiniti, Acura, etc.
