If Brave is successful and begins to disrupt Google Chrome's monopoly in the Browser world, won't BAT have a leg-up in being "the Internet's native currency"? I just watched the Joe Rogan interview with Jack Dorsey, and he mentions how he believes the internet will eventually have a "native currency," which makes total sense. FIAT is way too clunky or slow on the internet at the moment and it has too many hurdles involved before you can spend it or acquire it.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6q1Wi42E9E
BAT isn't decentralized by any means, but I'm failing to see how Bitcoin, BCash or Ethereum are being consciously implemented to be used as a native internet currency. BAT will be automatically infused with a web browser, making infrastructure to acquire/use/spend BAT so seamless that even brainlet normies will be able to use it. Imagine how many people can be exposed to the currency simply by using Brave? The possibilities are endless.
Yeah, I know people here on Jow Forums love to point out all of BAT and Brave's flaws, but it's poised to pick up where Bitcoin kind of left off.
Bitcoin originally was headed in this direction of being the internet's currency - just look at Silk Road, for me that was the golden era of Bitcoin because it was literally being used as an internet currency in a way that FIAT could never achieve. It fit perfectly in that use case as currency.
But sometime since then Bitcoin has taken on an entirely different use, and now it's basically just held, bought, and speculated with. It's traded and sold, sure, but it's not being used as a currency. In fact, I'd argue that people are AFRAID to use Bitcoin (and to a lesser extent, ETH) as currencies.
One "flaw" with Brave that I see people point out all the time is "WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST USE BITCOIN/ETH??" instead of making their own token. I think the answer to that is complex but one glaring reason to me is, PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO USE BITCOIN AS A CURRENCY. The mindset right now is, "If I spend Bitcoin, I will be like the man who spent 10,000 Bitcoin on 2 pizzas, and I will regret it"
People don't want to "spend" Bitcoin. BAT overcomes this because you can literally earn it by simply BEING ON THE INTERNET. It brings crypto back to the "currency" it was meant to be.
I'm not saying it will be the currency of the internet, and I'm not saying it will moon or saying anyone should buy it etc. etc.
But if anyone can offer a counterpoint to BAT being best poised to be the internet currency, I'd love to hear it. Because being literally connected and already implemented into Browser Spending via Brave, to me, seems like a huge fucking leg-up on any other crypto.
Jaxson Green
Just started watching it, Dorsey has some pretty cool ideas.
Jason Green
Absolutely. I love his mindset and his grasp on Bitcoin/crypto.
Ian Brown
>any other crypto. i think this is the core delusion. we might very well see a internet currency as you speak of it, and BAT may very well be the best suited of the cryptos, but i highly doubt an internet coin will be a crypto currency. at least in todays definition. we'll probably see facebook bucks or something though.
Christian Long
When you understand why BAT isn't supposed to be decentralized then you'll realize why its going to be only one of the hand full of crypto's that will survive the coming culling. You have to look deep to realize exactly what Brendan, Jack, and all those guys are attempting to do here. But most on this board will hate it, that's why they don't want to look in the first place.
Christopher Clark
So basically when BAT (among other infrastructure components) is ready it won't need eth or any pedo-coin as a ledger layer.
Parker Stewart
BAT's will still run & be transfered on ETH (unless something goes wrong with the network) but Brave ads working with Brave payments will spread BAT tokens to users & publishers across the internet much faster than anything else on Ethereum's network can hope to including ETH itself. But, once many internet users have BAT, (in a working Metamask wallet), they can easily go and spend them on dapps and get the rest of Eth's online infrastructure in gear.
Dylan James
>or what bitcoin should have been before transfers took 30+ mins
good thing lightning speeds that up 10000x
Ryan Clark
I'm thinking that eventually it won't run on anything. Or if it does it won't be eth. That's for sure.
Asher Hill
>Changing numbers in escrow account without actually committing transaction to blockchain >OOOHHHH SOO FAST
Blake Williams
Brave blocks ads and if you want to turn them back on on your site you have to give a cut to Brave. This is blatantly illegal and will end in career ending lawsuits. Something like BAT will eventually take off but without all of Brave’s weird baggage.
Dominic Fisher
Exactly. Might as well make it completely off chain at that point.
Noah Williams
It will become more decentralised over time, but yes you're correct. Are current adblockers illegal?
Noah Thompson
BAT running on ETH is ideal for now, just for the compatibility with Metamask which will empower many other crypto projects in it's wake. (Brave ads will be using Civic for KYS for example) Imagine someone making a dapp, they can advertise it with Brave ads and accept BAT as payment. The consumer will get paid BAT, and likely have even more to pay the dev if they want to use the dapp.
Parker Miller
>please buy my altcoin bags You can still dump before it's too late.
>changing numbers in a centralized no liquidity shitcoin
LN transactions are eventually settled on chain. Nothing can scale at worldwide levels on chain without centralizing at layer 0 you fucking brainlet cuck.
Robert Kelly
>Nothing can scale without centralization.
Thanks for proving that Bitcoin is worthless.
Brandon Robinson
>brave ads shill cryptocurrencies >move bat into other cryptos >pay for paywalls >use bravevpn >buy extensions in the store >tor tabs >zk starks - not a spelling mistake its new >consume paid media I.e. cheddar et al >paid proportionally and appropriately as a video creator or any other content creator >better user information for advertisers >no risk of identity leak - data stored on user end, civic for kyc >pewdiepie
No you dumb fuck. It settles on the only decentralized inmutable blockchain. If you understood economics instead of applying niggernomics you would understand Bitcoin has no competition and everything else is a meme.
Dylan Butler
It's not about where it came from, it's about how many people have it; Brave ads + Brave payments will make sure everyone and their dog has BAT.
Caleb Sanchez
BRAINLETS! THE CURRENCY OF THE INTERNET IS 0XBTC!
Luis Myers
Brave literally IS Chrome. Are you a shill?
Aaron Bell
Does Chrome have an integrated cryptocurrency? What is it?
Liam Martinez
>Jack Dorsey He is a brainlet. Doesn't understand blockchain. You can hear how he speaks about bitcoin that he's fucking dense as fuck and his idea of it is pretty much "its like uhhh magic internet money its like so internet you know"
Jack Clark
Technically yes, if you count the crypto plugins - and seeing that Brave is pretty much an electron app, technically the whole 'browser', with all its features is a Chrome plugin. I like the idea that Brave devs are selling, but there's something fundamentally shady with the discrepancy between what they promote and what they actually have.
Jaxon Torres
There are significant differences. They cut out all of chrome's 'phone google' features by default, and have features such as Tor browsing, non-native ad/trackers actively blocked, that's not even including the BAT payments ledger & Brave ads on the way. It's true all of these could be made into an extensions, but why not make it easy and bundle them all into a browser by default? You get to kill Google's branding among Brave's users aswell, huge advantage
Daniel Jones
They have a functioning browser that blocks ads has all the latest privacy features and a dev version where users are rewarded for viewing ads (trial). Their partners include some big media companies & at least one website with 80m unique users.
Xavier Peterson
>Their partners include some big media companies & at least one website with 80m unique users. Weren't you paying attention? That was cheeze.com or something. Theh have like 14 customers.
I listened to most of that podcast until I couldn’t fucking take it anymore. Anyone else think jack is a total pretentious faggot? He thinks he’s some kind of legendary visionary, and he basically just sucks twitters dick for 3 hours taking about how great it is and blah blah blah. It’s sickening how much this faggot believes his own bullshit
Blake Smith
Ugh fuck off why doesn’t PRAY-VE just use lightning network?
Matthew Anderson
This 1000x.
Are you fags really still shilling altcoins???? LMFAO
Aaron Hughes
>lightning lightning and raiden are a garbage state channel type. anyone that doesn't understand this doesn't deserve to get rich off crypto.
Jayden Morales
Brave has more than one partner, look into them. Slack is one, that's for free.
Bat is a worthless funding token for a fork of chrome. That's for free.
Leo Ortiz
>unmatched decentralization and security
Less decentralized and secure than fiat.
>Bitcoin >can only transact in a handful of exchanges that could fold at any time >zero measures against fraud >a simple bug can create unlimited bitcoin >no formal QA process >there might catastrophic bugs in BTC's code as we speak
Yes, a token for a dogshit platform will be the "currency" of the internet. Even you must admit you sound like an absolute retard. It'll either be Bitcoin or a completely new currency, or nothing at all.
Carson Garcia
Retard lol
Luke Brooks
Refer to >One "flaw" with Brave that I see people point out all the time is "WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST USE BITCOIN/ETH??" instead of making their own token. I think the answer to that is complex but one glaring reason to me is, PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO USE BITCOIN AS A CURRENCY. The mindset right now is, "If I spend Bitcoin, I will be like the man who spent 10,000 Bitcoin on 2 pizzas, and I will regret it"
Bitcoin is no longer seen by its own supporters as a currency. It's akin to "digital gold". Completely disingenuous to be upset with Brave for not using BTC when the (more likely than not) fact is, literally nobody would donate/spend BTC if it had been used.
Makes me cringe to see Bitcoin Maximalists (many of whom actually USE BRAVE) in essence claim they would donate BTC to content creators. I'm going to call you on your bullshit there. They never in a million years would tip using Bitcoin, because they believe that BTC could go to $50,000 some day. That's fine. BAT is already, right now being used to support content creators. That's the floor of its use cases, it will only build from there.
Anything that comes out of Jack dorseys mouth is a lie That faggot is so divorced from reality he needs a fucking compass to put his shirt on in the morning
Aaron James
That's because its not a currency. Bitcoins issuance rate will drop below golds at
Camden Flores
>can only transact in a handful of exchanges that could fold at any time not an argument
>zero measures against fraud dont be an idiot, bitcoin is adult money
>a simple bug can create unlimited bitcoin yeah so simple that im about to exploit it and become rich
>no formal QA process cuck
>there might catastrophic bugs in BTC's code as we speak
higher chances that unpayable infinite debt "backed" USD collapses
Easton Foster
Fiat retards think their artificallly stable fiat is stable.
Jaxson Morales
Correct! I use brave for most of my browsing and having a wallet and payment method on it makes it pretty interesting.
Jackson Wright
Nice non-arguments you got there, brainlet. How much are you bagholding?
>it's poised to pick up where Bitcoin kind of left off. Stopped reading right there. Retard alert.
Eli Davis
Thank you, this is interesting. I can't read it now but I'll look into it, on first glance it seems to share a lot of principles with the Basic Attention Token
Jacob Lewis
It wasn't Cheddar, they confirmed in the Telegram chat that that wasn't the one Brendan was talking about. He said 80M /adblocking users/ per month, and many more non-adblocking users. Cheddar doesn't even come close to those numbers.
That partnership still hasn't been announced other than that offhanded mention by Brendan on a podcast.
Juan Reyes
Well what is it?
Cooper Gray
I actually began laughing when he said that Bitcoin is probably going to be the currency of the internet, only because "it has been born and raised by the internet and therefore is 100% of the internet" orsmth like that. Bitch, you can say that about almost any other crypto. By that argument, Tittycoin has the same possibilities of becoming the currency of the internet. The fact that he really didnt have any technical argument on why he likes Bitcoin makes me think he hasnt really learned much about crypto yet and shouldnt be viewed as a thoughtleader in the space.
Isaiah Robinson
There are few ideas; imgur, twitch, yahoo & netflix. They may all be wrong.
But... but... schnorr signatures and segwit will scale the first layer by 3x.
Wyatt Stewart
He did it once before with IE and microsoft.
Chase Kelly
If I’m understanding it correctly it is a protocol level change while BAT is browser level. It changes the way information is stored and accessed and puts digital rights in the hands of the creator with everything else including web pages being built around that. They seem complementary as this gives creators control while BAT gives users control.
Camden Robinson
Google takes a cut of people's ads also, all parties in the digital ad distribution network take a cut, what's illegal? Produce and maintain ad serving infrastructure, take a cut for your services. Problem?
Jaxson Gomez
>Brave offers discount Netflix subscriptions when purchased in BAT >normies adopt at a disgusting pace
>You can't cut out all of Chrome's 'phone google' features. First, only Google has control over the Chromium repo, secondly Chromium depends on multiple pre-compiled libraries from Google that do god-knows-what and cannot be removed. About a year ago it was proven that a library that supposedly managed DRM on HDMI for Nvidia graphics was a keystroke recorder; people finding out promptly forced Google to update this behaviour and call it a bug. But who knows what else is there? You can disguise what data you send over the network very easily, especially when you attach it to SSL packets.
