>six months into job >new boss two months ago >get on really well personality wise >job has a six month probation period >11am this friday have my probation meeting >been told it's being extended by three months (by my boss) >been told HR will be there because he's new and doesn't know the ins and outs of the policies >boss knows I despise HR >meeting is supposedly to discuss progress moving forward etc. >asked if I'm in a bad place and need to get back on track, told no >asked if it's a PIP, told no >high up manager in the office I work also seems to think it's an extension and nothing more, but didn't say specifically
Am I being paranoid or am I about to be fired? I really don't feel good about this, the only thing that makes me think I'm not about to be fired is the fact that I'm having to travel to another city for this meeting (expensive for the company), and I think if they wanted to fire me they'd just do it over email or a conference call with HR in my city.
I have another job offer and I'm genuinely considering handing in my notice tomorrow or the day after to protect myself against being fired.
Take the other job offer. If they valued you, they wouldn’t extend your probationary period. Also, any job that has a “probationary” period is a shit job
Henry Nguyen
I don't really want the other job though, it's kind of just my fall back. It's the same type of job, but it's a smaller company and my boss kind of seems like a dickhead. The money is more though.
I started looking for other jobs a while ago after I started to panic about the probation coming up, I love where I work currently but I'm just worried about this is why I started looking elsewhere.
Xavier Gray
Why is it being extended exactly?
What's a PIP?

>Performance Improvement Plan. An HR term that signify a managers corrective plan tomget a valuable employee who's having a significant increase in productivity. Usually a last ditch plan before firing someone.
I'm surprised they would extend this to someone on probation.
Andrew Moore
Fuck off oldmin
Nathan Wood
The fuckers in HR at the office I work at have some concerns about me turning up late (fuck them, I'm salaried, if I turn up five minutes late and work four hours after-hours unpaid and you do me for being late, go kill yourself) and my new boss, while he says he considers me an asset and is optimistic about me, says he is concerned about the speed with which I complete some tasks, but wont expand further until he's finished the assessment thing he has to do ahead of the review. I think maybe this is because he works in another office, I work somewhere he's never been yet and doesn't understand the working environment, and also he doesn't get that I have additional responsibilities he isn't fully aware of outside of his/my primary department. But equally, he's a very capable individual who has very high demands.
It's common practice to extend probation to let the person finish whatever project they're working on and then firing them. If you are working on a project that ends several weeks before your "probation" is over then you know what's gonna happen
Charles Allen
I do have an extended project that I could probably finish in the next four/five weeks, so this doesn't bode well.
James Adams
Why exactly do you think they are going to fire you dude? There doesnt seem to be any evidence in support of that hypothesis
Connor Bennett
>I'm salaried, if I turn up five minutes late and work four hours after-hours unpaid Fatal mistake, right there. Take it from an old fossil: At work, It truely doesn't mather if you put 16 hours of unpaid work after your shit, if you're late a single minute. HR will not have any problem pulling your clocking times to make this point. Saddly, you have no idea how many young people with 4 times the educations I have getting their asses fired because of this.
Start early, leave on time. /end.
Jonathan Wright
PIPs aren't there to give you a chance to stay, they're there to collect documentation that you're fired for the "right" reasons, meaning you can't sue/etc...
90% of people put on PIPs won't be there after the the review, and for the other 10% their career at the BoomerCorp is finished even if the management changes since its all in the docs.
Ian Lewis
Working in small companies is great.
It's easy to work your way up if you're not retarded and when you leave for a bigger company you can pretend it was way harder to become a manager than it actually was.
I unironically think you should move to the smaller company for the sake of personal development and arbitrage your experience there into a managerial position at a larger company at a later date.
Brody Green
I don't know, I just don't like HR being involved in anything and I'm slow to trust. My new boss seems to bounce between ultra-professional mode and "I don't give a single fuck and I'll tell you things I definitely shouldn't be" on a whim.
In terms of keeping me, one minute he's saying he knows I interviewed somewhere else (true) and is asking how he can keep me, then he's saying he'll look into giving me more money, then he's saying he can't increase my salary, then he's talking me into taking this other job I've been offered and how it'll be good for me, then he's saying he values me and wants me to stay, then he's saying he is extending my probation by three months because he's not sure.
I don't get it.
It's a global company, unless I'm working with people in the far-east there's no point in turning up at 6am.
Just ask him if youre going to get fired if hes that much of a bro
Michael James
You are right in your distrust towards HR. Their job is to protect the company against lawsuits. Companies try to bullshit and say that HR is there to help employees, but it's a load of shit. HR reports to management and not to employees
Carter Cox
Your boss sounds sneaky. Be careful of those types, ultimately people like him are there to save their own asses. He'll say what he thinks you want to hear to you then turn around and tell HR things they want to hear.
Just observe how your co-workers treat you, it's very likely they are the source of the complaints against you. Notice if they like you or not, look out for some smarmy person with an agenda.
Very likely HR is just reacting to what people around you are saying. I had the same problem to, I thought my performance wasn't good enough despite giving my absolute all, but my co-workers disliked my 'attitude' and the way I look so some smarmy cunt complained me to HR.
If you are able to figure out what your surrounding things of you, you can determine whether you want to stay there long term. It's likely not your lateness, theres a snake in your environment.
That pic. That is literally all I want in life. A hot white girl, literally looks exactly like that. Exact body shape, exact skin tone, everything. Fucking A. Fuck my life.
Ethan Myers
Have something similar to this. Gotta say it's pretty bitchin.

>Your boss sounds sneaky He is manipulating you, you don't seem stupid but you're certainly naive if you don't see him setting you up for the big letdown.
Aaron Perez
Stop posting white woman! I have spent so much time convincing myself that they are not worth it. All the years of rejection and them making fun of me it hurt so much that even if I make it I will be reminded everyday that white woman do not like me but in fact think I am pathetic.
I have meticulously sought out the best Asian in the world. I exclusively masturbate to JAV repeating the mantra: "White girl roastie, white girl roastie you look so grossly." when I climax to confirm just how shitty white woman are they are bullies and have enlarged vaginas because of all the sex they have with random chads. I lovingly spread the sperm (life force) over the picture of the Asian woman on screen or sometimes I print out pictures of them (for more power)
Asian woman are pure and will protect me against all the ills of the spoiled princess roastie. STOP POSTING CUTE WHITE WOMAN NOW. I don't like it and in the long run it only hurts Anons because they will only get gold diggers unlike pure Asian woman who will like Anons for their personality and soul.
Aiden Gomez
What's your deal man? Jacked? White? High status? How do I cope
Bentley Davis
>He is manipulating you, you don't seem stupid but you're certainly naive if you don't see him setting you up for the big letdown.
Yeah, bosses like that are only out to protect their own ass. The boss might be secretly planning his escape to and wants to ruin as many lives as possible on his way out (why would he care?).
Plenty of people like that out there. Plenty of bullshit.

Take the job offer. If you have to ask if you're being screwed over by a corporation, the answer is yes 90% of the time.

>job has a six month probation period first red flag >been told it's being extended by three months (by my boss) very big second red flag
>My new boss seems to bounce between ultra-professional mode and "I don't give a single fuck and I'll tell you things I definitely shouldn't be" on a whim.

HUGE AS FUCK red flag.
OP, your organization and its policies are shit and seem like they are from 1980s. Your boss is a shifty and dodgy mother fucker who, I'm 100% sure, will can you after you complete your project if not sooner.
Run away from that organization and never look back.
As some anons have already said, oftentimes it's much easier to go up the career ladder in a small organization. Once you've done that you can take your experience and title and a get much better position in a global company if you'd still want to do that by then.
Landon Reyes
OP is the 6 month probation period SOP for your company?
What else did ya'll talk about during your meeting?
You could accept the offer for the backup company and let the company know that you won't be able to start for a period longer than 2 weeks. See how that goes and maybe try to get some more info in the interim. That way you'll have more options available to you.
Gabriel Turner
This exact situation happened to me and I was fired. Take the job and never look back.
Is that legal in americuckland? Employees have zero rights there huh
Leo Ward
In my country I could literally sue them for this and force them to give me a permanent work contract that they can't get out of unless I seriously fuck up at my job.

Okay, I get it, I don't want to leave but I don't have any choice.
I'm going to email the other company and tell them I want the job.
Who the fuck still has to clock in when they're salary? That's a HUGE red flag for a company imo.
William Foster
You should make sure all the women you talk to are put in their place immediately.
Jayden Moore
You're making a terrible mistake letting these Jow Forums retards convince you your paranoia is accurate. You have no reason what so ever to think you're going to be fired, why the fuck would they spend $500-$1000 to ship you somewhere to tell you you're fired?
Do it then immediate ask your boss for clarification. And then look on the bright side nigga, you're gonna make more. So what if you hate your job? Everyone hates their job

Youre making the smart move here. You ARE about to get canned, or at least relatively soon.
They know he's got another job lined up AND they extended the jew period. Theyre looking for someone on the side to replace him, and once they find that person OP is gone without notice. This happens all the time. OP should have hidden the fact he was looking for a backup/replacement job better.
Liam Allen
>OP should have hidden the fact he was looking for a backup/replacement job better This isn't always so easy depending on what industry you're in.
Logan Wilson
It's because you're browsing biz
Ethan Cooper
>OP should have hidden the fact he was looking for a backup/replacement job better. How did they even find out?
Kevin Rogers
IF THEY EXTENDED YOUR PROBATION IT MEANS THEY WILL TERMINATE YOU. TAKE THE NEW JOB.
-HR fagget
Hunter Bailey
Take the new job. If they wanted you, they wouldn't go on about being so unclear and uncertain about your future there. Your boss is a cunt, don't get manipulated by someone who will fuck you without a moment of thought just because they were being """"bro"""" by telling you some shit you thought that you shouldn't know, it's not of any consequence anyways and is just to lull you in some sense of feeling of being "in" and on with those people. Always, by always I mean ALWAYS think with your own head and don't get influenced by those people, especially when YOUR interests will ALWAYS be in conflict with THEIRS.
Blake Barnes

Background check?
OP hasn't even been with the company for 6 months yet and they're already trying to fire him? Wtf? Also his new manager has only been around for 2 months? This whole thing seems fucky and like OP should just take another job, but that's really fucking early to decide somebody's not going to work out, isn't it?
Cameron Davis
Hes on probation which in HR terms means they are testing you out and can fire you for anything with no strings attached, if a probationary period is extended for an employee that is usually a signal that HR has decided that a replacement candidate has not been found yet and the employee has to be strung along for a bit longer, in OPs case thats 2 months. In my company we always do this for employees that will be terminated but their position cant be left open. The reason why he will be fired doesnt really mater as usually its all trivial.
James Torres
If you hire a guy that you can already determine that you'll need to fire within 6 months, doesn't that mean a person absolutely fucking failed at properly screening in the interview process?
Is there just such a severe lack of job candidates that the first person with a pulse is selected, and you have to try to make it work? What kind of jobs are these?
Thanks for the post though -- very interesting shit.
Blake Powell
Wait for waifu Wednesday to post Imogen, s a d m i n. And keep practicing that clarinet.
Alexander James
Its reasonable to believe that they have a hiring policy which dictates every new hire is on probation for the first 6 months. This would mean at the time of hiring they thought that he would be a good match for the company. Its also possible that they were desperate to hire anyone or that HR just fucked up.
>Is there just such a severe lack of job candidates that the first person with a pulse is selected, and you have to try to make it work?
In my company mid to upper level positions are are extremely hard to fill because the higher ups have created insane standards and are offering sub market compensation, often times we have decide between taking a chance on a sketchy new hire or promoting someone under qualified from within.
Kevin Anderson
>or promoting someone under qualified from within.
>gasp You mean that you'd have to develop your resources? Or put somebody into a role that they'd have to grow into? Sorry. I've had a shitty manager experience and have learned the concept of "managing up" the hard way, and I'm just so salty about the way the world works, is supposed to work, how I expected it to work, and the massive SKILLS GAPS between these 3 things.
You seem pretty fucking woke. Got any lessons from the school of hard knocks that you'd like to share? Or advice for office politics? I literally got an entire book on office politics and I don't know if it'll be enough to satisfy me.
Xavier Torres
Good on you for taking the new job.
Now focus on being better at your new job so that you don't get fired again you fucking slow idiot.
Connor Cook
First things first, If a company has a HR department with a very strong impact on how the company operates thats usually a bad sign and I would steer clear of that company. Another thing to note is having female boses, they tend to dramatize everything and over complicate things with bs;AVOID. Current corporate culture is extremely anti male and is fucking toxic so much babying going on its horrible, most large to very large corporations follow this trends and therefore I would avoid if you are trying to have a career in them. I would venture to guess the best job environment could be found in a small to mid size corporation where you work directly under the owner/exec in a predominantly male business such as finance, architecture whatever.
small to mid size corporate businesses have the flexibility and pragmatism to bend the rules for its workers and have a lot less worker turn over rates.
Luke Kelly

Daniel Gutierrez
He’s a young fool and he told them.
Hudson Evans
if you're in a big / shitty / failing company, no. it's very common to extend contracts like this just o save money.
if you're in a small personal company like a startup, that smells like mismanagement so gtfo.
either way you're probably not being fired. it's more an indicator that the company isn't doing well in my experience.
Landon Wilson
Mate, just bail to the smaller company with more money, sounds way better.
I am quitting my current job because I'm shit and they know it, not worth the hassle. If they don't want you there then just go and leave on good terms.
