I mean it depends on perspective and specifics. If you bust your ass, make the right moves etc, and catch the eye of a succesful person who bothers to spend any amount of time as a mentor, did you not still make that happen? Sure, there's a bit of luck involved, but that's my situation. I wasn't handed anything, I stood out because of my efforts. They saw the situation I was in, decided I deserved better, and helped me get there.
No I don't mean that. I completely appreciate the fact that people "who've made it" are extremely talented and hard-working people.
I'm just saying the term "self-made" is not really accurate because every step of the way, you're using resources and opportunities created by hundreds/thousands/millions of other people.
They did build it but they also relied upon work developed by thousands of mathematicians over the years as well as America being the #1 country for inventors and entrepreneurs.
