/smg/ - Stock Market General

U.N. Owen is a reference to the Agatha Christie book And Then There Were None. "U.N. Owen" is pronounced like "unknown," and was used as an alias by a mysterious host who invited 10 strangers to a mansion on Soldier Island. Through the course of the story, each guest is accused of murder, and eventually dies edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I wonder how it would play out if you charted losses by US investors due to China stocks tanking.
Anyways I think trade war hurts Americans most because chinese are used to hardship, but if Americans pay one extra cent they break down and facebook about it.

Plug needs to hit that 2.00 tomorrow

Are hedge funds the ultimate meme? It seems like there are countless articles about how they under-perform the market. Managers like David Einhorn are nearly famous for losing their clients' money.

IIPR almost back to pre-S&P announcement mwahahaha I'm glad my premature sell wasn't completely foolhardy.

Chinese cheapies here I come.

my BABA stop loss hit today. Sad, I really believe on BABA long. I'll reenter in the 160s.

Are you a member of China's communist party, or just macroeconomically retarded?
> Trade surplus expected to be $20B
> Actually only $4B
> America is hurting more!
We have disposable income to piss away on FAANG, China needs every export they can get.

It probably will because i sold my call early

I was half joking but I just think that feeding into this idea that America can exist in a vacuum and the general fear of globalization is stupid.

Never, America is the customer, China is the seller. And what China sells (cheap shit) can be made anywhere else, they're in a very precarious position. Let's remember they only became a major trading partner with the US in 2001.

SAEX could be getting some action in the morning...

At least you don’t have calls. I’m down so bigly

Now would be a great time to load up on some 2020 400+ calls for BABA
When it eventually reverses you'll probably see a 33% gain.

I think this idea that we don't want to get fucked over on trade, or give our IP away to China=being afraid of globalization is fucking retarded. We have always loved global trade and are the kings of it. Seeing as how there's a giant global slowdown of growth, with us the most devloped market in the world being #2 only to China in terms of growth % shows we kinda know what we're doing here. Wasn't Germany supposed to be the shining light of rhe world? Because they're now teetering on recession. Guess retarded desert people aren't much of a benefit after all huh?

HOLY FUCK. NIKKEI DOWN -2% SHANGHAI DOWN -3%. FUTURES RED. SHIT SHIT WHY DID I BUY SPY CALLS. SHIT. IM FREAKING OUT.

Kinda glad I sold my NYSE and S&P 500 ETFs two days ago. Bought in December 27th, took my profits and left. I have since grabbed a bigger share of gov't bond ETFs and some precious metals, but the majority is still in cash waiting for something to happen.

Not opening my portfolio tomorrow

So after the Roth Group meeting today, it looks like CRMD is being bought out by JNJ in a merger for $8.50 a share. It looks like it will be announced after earnings on the 14th.. Should I buy call options or the stock? What strike price would be most profitable and what time frame? I am just a medical student but I need to pay off my debt, please help guys...

Oh tomorrow is going to be a blast. I don't think a half ass decent jobs report is going to stop this.

Attached: ChinaRedChina.jpg (800x511, 157K)

youtube.com/watch?v=d5wn87lAjHA

What makes you think the jobs report will be good?

That's actually what will hurt the market. If the jobs report is strong and especially if wage increases beat, the markets will bleed. This is because labor costs will be priced into inflation which in turn will signal a higher chance of a rate hike by the fed. As of now, the market is pricing in zero rate hikes for 2019 and rate cuts in 2020. I believe the February flash crash we saw in 2018 was caused by a similar event - hot inflation.

Nothing. I meant even if by some miracle or number fudging it is okay, this trolley to hell ain't stopping.

Interesting theory.

Don't fuck around with calls. Common shares are enough risk exposure.

"Show me the charts and I'll tell you the news"

The VIX might be gearing up for a shot at the 24 mark to fill in the gap it made early this year. This is further supported by the stochastic and stochastic RSI readings of the SPY on a weekly and daily level. Weekly looks like a repeat of the February and October dives. The SPY has also just back-tested (and got rejected to the downside) the logarithmic support line it was held up by since the 2009 bottom

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK?!

Normies love this shit, time to hop in? I'm getting tingles on this. But the blood on the streets of KHC look real nice.

Where is dividend fren?

>“We are truly sorry for these results stated above,” the three-paragraph quote began. “Negligence nor mismanagement nor woeful acts of God were not the reasons — much of this was the result of injustice!”

>Caporella’s rant did not specify exactly what injustice caused National Beverage to sell fewer cans of flavored sparkling water than was expected. Instead, he moved on an awkward metaphor, comparing his job of managing a company that sells packaged drinks to caring for a disabled person.

>“Managing a brand is not so different from caring for someone who becomes handicapped,” Caporella said. “Brands do not see or hear, so they are at the mercy of their owners or care providers who must preserve the dignity and special character that the brand exemplifies.”

Where were you when central banks lost their ability to manipulate markets?

Right? What the fuck was he even talking about? Does he have a sick relative or something?

Is this what happens before a CEO is replaced?

Do I sell my green stocks while I can?

Weird stuff for sure. I am deeply tickled by this timeline.

EU is officially ogre.

They pulled their last-ditch resort and the market ain't having it. They literally pulled the last string, hoping for the parachute to open but nothing happened.

RIP EU

What if I told you China can't make a deal because their economy is already beginning to collapse. Question is will the Fed lower rates again if we spiral out of control 08' style... If so, inflation will tick up again, wages stay stagnant, good times for all

Attached: 1549250473142.jpg (1280x720, 421K)

How do I learn stop lossing my way to win bros? I can’t give up my position and I rather hold through -80% because I can’t exit on loss. Partially cuz I’m afraid of Bog squeeze

Will US follow ?

I'm telling you guys, these biopharm pumps indicate a sideways bear market in the s&p. I don't have any data to back it up, but these moonshots remind me of 2015-16.

SEEL just got approved for an exclusive license for Parkinson's trials, so there's a catalyst for this one.

Is Deutsche going to merge with Commerzbank?

Weak but promising data forces traders to chase gains in an otherwise red or sideways market

>he isn't buying oil
>he isn't going to load up on long oil positions

Attached: 1542366982037.png (533x601, 210K)

Tfw bought no SEEL yesterday

managed to buy the bottom on KR yesterday

Is KHC a buy too? It looks really attractive rn, but I'm afraid if I buy it it'll overbias my portfolio towards consumer products

Only a weakening Dollar can save you, but that isn't gains. That's just inflation.

>we are entering a recession

did you not get the memo about 2020?

>wake up
>SEEL made we another grand
When will the wild ride end?

So here we have proof that autistic people can become CEOs

How are they doing 16% net margins as a bottler? That's insane.

I like the continual free cash flow as well.

...sounds like it's a "wait and see" rather than a buy right now

It's been hanging here for a while (all night). This makes me weary to buy. The market is too comfy here.

All your investments are highly geared and operate in very capital-intensive industries (Brookland especially). Have you looked at the ratio of net operating cash flows to interest payments? Net-debt to EBITDA?

I bought two shares of aer, and I don't know what I'm doing.
