Why do people give out advice

If I can do something that is marketable or valuable to someone, why would I want to teach people how to do this thing? Like Khan academy or Lynda or Coursera or edX or YouTube tutorials. Why are people motivated to teach others?

That's retarded to me. I deliberately withhold information from my coworkers. If they don't know how to do something. I make sure it has to go through me to secure my job. I make shit with vague code comments, not helpful to anyone. I deliberately write spaghetti so it fucks the weak minds up

I will abuse YouTube's copyright strike function to kick tutorials off the internet.

It's obviously an attempt to further monetize their skillset. And, no, they're not worried about competition, most people who take these courses won't follow through with it anyway.

You like of empathy is likely due to a form of competitiveness. This has resulted in your success, as you're driven to be "better" than others. The lack of empathy results in you enjoying/not wanting to contribute without guaranteed reward. You probably partly do this either because you enjoy feeling "superior"/having "authority" over other people, or do want you reward receiving to be threatened by others. And so, you don't want other people to be enable/to enable others.

Christ, there are too many fuck ups in there. Essentially, people who do that to express their empathy, something which you might lack.

I'm not trying to make you feel like an asshole either (not that you're likely capable of doing so).

Most people don't deserve any empathy.

In the jungle, the lion doesn't teach the other animals how he hunts.

I am the lion.

> "HEY YOUTUBE HERES THE WAY I MADE MY LIVING NOW YOU CAN COMPETE AGAINST ME IN THE MARKETPLACE GOOD LUCK"
> repeatedly shoots own foot

Yes, but if the lion doesn't teach other animals, then who will feed him, when he's old and tired, and can hunt no more.

They'll be glad he's gone, once he's dead. And he'll be forgotten.

Lions don’t live in jungles idiot

I don't know why I pretend to be some pseudo-intellectual/psychologist on here. This is fucking retarded. I apologize anyone reading my nonsense. Don't take my views seriously.

They don't really teach you things because a lot of those courses are shitty and offer a low amount of content, you'll have to do a lot of them to get good at something. They make money without increasing competition too much.

I just don't know why they shill a lot of other things though, if you shill your job too much you'll get competition but people are retarded so that's why they do it

I call this the career advisor's dilemma. Why would a take career advice from a fucking failure?

For example, when I wanted to get into a topic I would do some online course in math or programming related stuff. It got to a point where I got tired of watching shitty videos with meta content like "this is so interesting, here's how is used" or "you'll get a job" and got textbooks for most things, or if it's programming, I just read the docs and code things myself and learn from what works and what doesn't. Sure you'll hit some walls at times but it's way easier to skip the bullshit and you gain time that way. Basically, those types of courses are usually designed for brainlets (otherwise they wouldn't cover the investment)

Ever hear of the Peter Principle? Think it may have something to do with fuck ups turning to teach other people their own skills

Maybe because a king lion like me didn't teach them the tips and tricks it takes to survive there. BTFO bro come back next year

When I die I'm taking people out. Might is right. Either the next person in line kills me or I pull him to hell with me. Regardless, when I die society will crumble

Im not sure if we are thinking about the same kind of persons. But i did some research some night a while ago and checked out some of this mentors. Many people who follow them to achieve there dreams are brainwashed if they are real people.
However after watching some videos and browsing there social media shit they all just tried to sell something. Often they recommend books or they try to sell curses. Some even do something called like motivation speaks and the tickets are like a few hundreds. This motivations speakes are spooky.

We don't even know your real name or face. Chill out.

I'll give an anecdotal example: I don't know if you've watched/ heard of 3Blue1Brown. he's a maths youtube channel guy (and has done some videos for khan academy).

His youtube playlist, 'The Essence of Linear Algebra', is simply exemplary in how it DIAGRAMMATICALLY explains many of the concepts involved in that subject.

Watching those videos before/during the early stages of doing a university course would be extremely helpful. A lot of time, people just memorize doing shit with matrices, rather than actually having a real clue as to how planes are intersecting and shit - not to imply I'm some fucking master.

My point being that youtube videos/online courses can definitely augment other education. Some people are just better at explaining the same concept.

And the usual response is "why do I need to understand things at what you view as the 'fundamental' level', all I need to know is what's required to get me a job" etc.

I don't know how to respond to that. But it might help someone understand a concept faster.

he'd have to be pretty egotistical to give a fuck what anyone thinks if he is dead

Because I'm not greedy.

That's what you think.

>Psychopathy: The Post

Are you not essentially teaching the OP just like in the concept you are trying to explain to him? How meta

Cmon, OP don't you want to join the 1%?

Stand on the shoulders of giants, be born on third base, take advantage of others generosity and then claim you did it all yourself and move your wealth offshore so public school children don't get any and vote Republican

>Why

Its called empathy.

Its why you were able to live long enough to reach adulthood as opposed to being killed by someone who didn't mind throwing their life away or simply though they could gain from it and get away with it like you are doing but in a vastly more passive aggressive manner. When a society has enough sociopaths like you presumably are, then outside actors move in and pit you against each other to weaken you and gain power. Theres probably some sort of inherent basic human archetypal need for socialpaths but im no philosopher so idk whatever.

Getting actual wisdom for topics needs deep thinking and learning about them. I'm sure the videos are helpful but if you don't divide your time watching videos, reading textbooks, solving problems, instrospection, among others, you'll never actually "learn" something. And my thesis is that some courses fail to capture the essentials to learning a topic which is actually enjoying it and attacking it from multiple angles, it's not really a race that you have to finish.
But since a lot of people go to university just to get a job and don't care, the courses are a good fit. I've actually done a lot of them and I learned a lot, I just learned that getting through some courses shouldn't be the goal but a stepping stone in understanding deeply a subject.
But that's autism talking

But the person gets extra cash for doing it, so it could even itself out. Plus, remember that trading your time for cash isn't scalable, but getting views on the net is, so they're playing the upside.

Additionally, there are also other people doing this, so if the info is out there anyway, might as well get a profit from it

Compare life in Europe and life in Africa, soon you should realize that people in Europe are benefiting from a higher average education/intelligence.

based. helping strangers on the internet is for faggots. I only help people that have helped me in the past. The only way to learn something is to struggle with it on your own.

The biggest things university has going for it are that it provides motivation to learn by holding people accountable. If you don't do the work, you fail. There's also recognition for learning, although some online courses are trying to compete with this recognition, by offering certificates of completion/proof of project completion.

Also, having someone, like a Lecturer or tutor, be there to explain something to you, and to hold your hand just can't be replaced. I hope AI and/or machine learning can help with issues like these in the future.

I totally agree, I feel like university is a lot more multidimensional but a lot more expensive as well.

Personally, I like to learn on my own (of course from others a lot in books but picking things from different places) but everyone has their way

Cuz they're bagholders/shills.

topkek but true

Open source is the new paradigm. Ironically, it is hyper competitive as you can't hide behind your weird shit "trade secrets". Prepare to be out competed by a 15 year old with 40k subscribers

For some it's self marketing, for others it's giving back a bit to others.

But considering the shitload of low quality tutorials, it's mostly self-marketing (e.g. hey, here's my tutorial about X, please hire me).

Also, not everything is taught in those courses/tutorials and there's always some nuggets that remain hidden which is what truly gives someone an edge on their competition.

Some PROFESSIONALS want competent coworkers and colleagues that don't fuck up all their hard work and set them back in their career.
