Please spoonfeed me sirs. What is random.org. And what does this mean for chainlink?

provable randomness. Just as the oracle said.

random number generation. Chainlink invented a new more secure way of producing random numbers. Which at first seems like not a big deal, but infact it is a huge deal.

True randomness is actually huuuuuuuuge.
This is just one of the countless golden use case for oracles.

So now we have a calculator AND a dice.

How is random number generation that important, and aren't there other solutions that can do that securely?

Can you give an example of an important use case for a rng?

dont forget the alarm clock lmfao

google.com start reaearching, if you think creating true random numbers in a secure fashion is nothing than idk what to tell you man. Plenty of information out there

Dude, this is chainlink applying a free service to their product. Not random.org adding chainlink.
This is meaningless. I could use the api random.org supplies to my own shit.

It's literally just an alarm clock with truly random alarm times, how the fuck is it useful if the alarm time is random instead of when you're supposed to wake up??? Linkies are fucking stupid

Idk what this means

It means link is partnering with lava lamps... Lmaoooo
Oraclize is providing military grade encryption
Meaning link is working on hippie grade randomness
Stay deluded

a blockchain lottery system with automatic prizes

This is the most idiotic fud I've ever seen. It's obvious going to be used to randomly generate a number of big macs to be delivered to Serg's penthouse. The element of surprise titillates him.

No ones gonna check those trips? Heresy

Cool, now I'll be able to choose my lottery numbers via Chainlink. That's 2 ways to make it with LINK.

Gambling my nigga. Does random.org produce a number every x minutes? How will this work with decentralization. They should make one using NIST.

>Oraclize
Now known as _Provable_. An oracle provider on the Chainlink network.

>Oraclize
lmfao, someone didn't get the memo

>How is random number generation that important, and aren't there other solutions that can do that securely?
Random numbers are a huge thing for smart contracts. Currently there's no real way of getting them into smart contracts.

Currently people are trying to do 1 of two things. They are creating really complex ways of using the previous block hashes and numbers to create a pseudo random number. (something like take the last number of the last block, then go back that many blocks and take that block number and add the last 3 numbers together, if it's bigger than 10 then minus 10). Something like this seems to create randomness but if someone knows the system then they can know what the outcome of the "lottery" of gambling contract will be and so they know whether they will win before playing the game.

The other way is through oraclizes oracles. You have to trust they are good actors for this, something I definitely wouldn't

How do you decentralize random number generation if the output is always a different random number?

Bump

You could use some sort of seed available on the blockchain like timestamps or blockhashes and have all nodes run a deterministic RNG algorithm.

Aggregate random numbers from multiple sources. Eventually one idea is to have several different tee executed random number algorithms generate randomness and then aggregate that. The possibility to approximate 'true randomness' is closer than anything ever before created.
