What’s going to happen instead, whether anyone likes it or not, is that the vast majority of humanity, anyone who cant build or maintain the machines of the future, is going to have to die.
Prove me wrong. Pro tip you can’t because it’s going to happen after the next financial collapse.
If the vast majority of people with an economy were to suddenly die, that economy would collapse. Further, as the purpose of building these machines is to provide for such a large populous in an efficient and cheap way, there would be no need for the 'machines of the future' if there were less people to begin with.
Your scenario is fundamentally flawed because we're only developing automation because there are so many people. If most of humanity died automation of most tasks would be pointless.

Agreed. Invest in robot private armies now.

no shit. automation means human labor just isnt necessary anymore, it doesn't mean we keep burning scarce resources and creating more pollution just so some worthless human beings can stay alive.
Adam Sanchez
Why is this sticky?
Charles Bailey
no, we're developing automation because it's quickly becoming cheaper than human labor, with more regulations and a rising cost of living in the first world, machines can do it cheaper, and with machines we can ramp production exactly as it needs to be, no resource usage when they're turned off, on-demand scaling of production.
we will never be in a post-scarcity world because we have a finite amount of resources and a finite world to keep dumping shit into. the less humans on this planet the better the planet is, and the better those able to fight for themselves are. we don't need more useless people on welfare, more worthless shitskins flooding the first world, automation is the first step in creating societies where only those who deserve, live.

Yes, NEETdom is a dead end
Justin Cooper
Machines maintain the machines, you douche nozzle.
And it's not dynamic or manipulation machines we need to think about in automation, it's ANI and AGI. BY the time we get AGI you better hope it sees us as friends/brothers rather than anything else.
UBI is cope because it's a small first step. We need to throw the entire "ISMS" away.
