train delays are not that bad compared to the rest of the developed world and the infrastructure is dramatically better than anywhere in north america

I have other reservations about this post as it is apparent we are quite far apart from one another ideologically. But as an American living here in Germany I must say it is a wonderful country and the OP is by and large correct.

His biggest mistake is thinking Germany is Swede-like in its environmental policy. In fact, the air quality in most of the cities is quite polluted by diesel smog, the country is over-reliant on domestic coal and the ecological targets are pitiful in view of the severity of the problem.
