American workers have been devalued through outsourcing and an unchecked flood of immigrants. The only way to mitigate that is to have trade/market protections and enforce your immigration law.
What you do when you try elementary interventionism like raising the minimum wage is force out all of the workers on the margins, bump up wages across the board and nullify those gains with inflation and cost of living increases, hurt small businesses, and further encourage big corporations to automate and outsource more work.
