They are just shared bank accounts, it does not matter how clever you are in connecting them, either the more hops you have between you and your destination, or the number of accounts you are connected to reduces the number of funds you are able to transfer across each route.
The only way around this is to put everyone into one giant shared account so that hops = 0 and connections = 0. But I believe that's just impossible on a hash timelock implementation level. Bitcoin is researching group channels with 8 people, but even that could be a problem because if any one person wants to withdraw their funds it destroys the entire channel.
