Most coins in the top 100 are Ethereum ERC tokens and most businesses partnered with a blockchain project are partnered with Ethereum. BTC still has a massive scaling issue that likely won't be solved with LN. Businesses are coming into the space to adopt Ethereum for it's smart contracts and they literally need oracles to do it. Chainlink is the standard oracles solution not just because it is the best solution years ahead of its closest competitor on the market but because half of the crypto market has come out saying they will use Chainlink as their oracle solution already. The biggest centralized oracle, Oraclize has stated they are integrating completely with the Chainlink network. I know you don't believe me but the oracle solution to succeed was never meant to have it's own blockchain meaning that it makes perfect sense for it to be a flexible ERC token. If the team wanted to they could integrate their token with any other successful smart contract blockchain with a smart contract powered token swap and that's assuming Ethereum dies which it won't. Chainlink has better tokenomics than any other coin on the market and smart contracts are not a buzzword the general public is familiar with yet. No one has even fucking heard of oracles yet.
